Although I stayed in the back I eavesdropped often to see how my niece was doing. Jocelynn is amazing with her young students. She engages with them in a way that they all seem to really enjoy; she jokes, she tells stories, she listens to them. In the middle of class she gives them a small break and does an art history lesson. I think it's wonderful that students get to see works of great artists. They talk about and discuss the work of the artist being discussed while eating a snack. She sells art supplies in her studio at a fraction of the price you'd get at the store, and she didn't push me to buy. As a matter of fact I really wanted to buy supplies and she told me to hold off until my niece was sure she wanted to stick with it and was comfortable. My niece had a good experience. Although she's an amazing self-taught artist Jocelynn taught her the correct way to use pencils and how that she should draw what she sees not what's in her head. There was a little bit of a back and forth with my niece insisting that she was doing it the right way but I'm telling you Jocelynn has the patience of Job. And I'm sure she's used to dealing with artists who are stuck in their ways (even if they are only 9 years old). But all in all she enjoyed the class. Jocelynn gave her individual attention (I don't know how but all of the students received one on one time with her). Watching and listening to Jocelynn and my niece in class confirmed that getting her into an art class is the right decision because it has to be easier to develop good habits as an artist now than later.

DONATION CENTER REVIEW ONLY:…read more This week, I stopped by the Goodwill in Stratford to drop off some donations at their center. This was my first time dropping off at this location. Overall, it was an easy process with the self-service receipt kiosks. The donation center is around the back of the building. Drive towards the left side of the building (you'll see the car wash in the next lot). Drive until you see the bay with the hanging plastic dividers. Once you get closer, you'll see handwritten signs and know you're in the right place. The self-service kiosks are to your right once you enter. This is a huge store/processing center, so there are a lot of workers there and they are busy. When I got there though, I still got assistance from someone (which I was grateful for). I haven't checked out the store in the front yet, but it's on my to-do! (Thrift store lover for life)

There are signs showing you where to go, just be aware these are for the shop, not the garage. You enter in the back of the store with the sale items then enter the main store with car, plane and model trains. They dont have the best/most selection I've ever seen but they do have a good stock that if you look close, you might find a gem. There were plenty of paints and supplies we found and it reminded me of old school train stores I frequented with my grandfather. Store owner was pleasant, asking if we needed anything before going back to his conversation with another patron. We did eventually find the gundams but were disappointed to see he only had 5 base models in stock. Overall a nice business but with strange hours and parking situation it can be hard to find/get in. More for the model train/car enthusiast but worth a stop if you're near by.

The shop markets itself around Japanese anime goods, references working with Bandai, and presents itself as a TCG destination. What we were sold were Chinese-language collectible card boxes. Not Japanese releases. Not Japanese Bandai TCG. Not playable trading card game cards. They are novelty collectibles with printed stats that do not belong to any legitimate game system. We've now spent over $200 here believing we were buying authentic Japanese TCG product for our kid. We weren't. When a family asks for Japanese TCG cards, you do not hand them Chinese-market collectible imports and let them believe it's the real thing. Worst of all, our 11-year-old thought he was getting something amazing -- until he realized he couldn't even look the cards up because they aren't part of any real TCG. If you're selling Chinese-language collectibles, say that clearly. Don't lean on Japanese branding and Bandai references while doing it. We're done.

I've taken classes to learn Mah Jongg and pinochle from Bernadette (the owner). She's a great teacher and very encouraging to all. I highly recommend taking classes from her! Once you have the game routine down she works with you on strategies. She and her husband are very open to new ideas and have even invented some of their own games which you can purchase there.

The transaction and her experience in recognizing the value of my item was the least impressive part of my experience. We live in a chaotic world where people in this industry take advantage of and treat people who come into these type of shops as desperate or less than. The transaction took about 15 minutes but we talked for almost an hour. Sam is a rare find in this business and in fact in this world. She's a gem and I wouldn't do business anywhere else.
