As usual, my girlfriend and I were out trying a new spot and ended up at this, cozy place First Impressions: It was completely empty when we walked in, not the best look at first, but it was a Thursday at 12 pm, so we figured it was just a slow time. We decided to stay, and we're glad we did. Atmosphere & Vibe: The inside is warm and homey. It feels like a spot made for a lovely date. Definitely has that family-run vibe. Service: The owner greeted us, chatted with us a bit, and made us feel welcome right away. Super friendly and laid-back. Food: I had the lasagna, and my girlfriend got the gyro and baklava. The food came out quick. Lasagna was solid, but the gyro was amazing, lamb was tender and full of flavor. The pita was slightly burnt, but it didn't ruin it. Extras: The owner brought us a free Alfredo pasta, really creamy and tasty. Then he gave us the baklava on the house and even threw in a brownie for me, saying, "The baklava is on the house and the brownie is for him." That was a nice touch. (And we were really happy that we even forgot about taking a picture) Overall: Not much from the outside, but once you're in, it's a great spot with good food and personal service. 10/10 would recommend Abba's is a hidden gem and one of the best meals I've had! Everything is prepared fresh and from scratch. Abba greeted us at the door and explained all the specials. The hummus and lentil soup were delicious. We had the shrimp creole and blackened grouper entrees and they were so flavorful. Abba makes his own blackening seasoning and doesn't use sugar. I had dinner at ABBA's Restaurant on Friday evening 6 June with close friends in Mobile on Old Shell Road. The food, the service, and the way we were made to feel comfortable and our business being appreciated was simply beyond any expectation. ABBA met me as I came in and in a matter of ten minutes, as I was waiting for others to arrive, I felt like he and I were old friends. The restaurant is understated but don't be fooled about the first look. The quality of the food, the manner it is prepared, and the way you are treated will make you love this restaurant and make you a returning customer. My first time visit to this local hidden gem and all I can say is WOW. The owner is super friendly and the food is outstanding! He has been in business for 40 years. Be sure and start with the hummus. The best hummus I have ever eaten. The grilled bread compliments the hummus perfectly. I went with the Persian kabobs with rice and grilled vegetables. This restaurant is fantastic in every way. I went with my fiancée for date night and it was perfect. The ambience was very formal: nice paintings on the walls, Fancy music playing in the background at the perfect "background noise" level, and a nice set up. The service was outstanding. Abba came out and spoke with us several times during the meal to ask how the food was and insisted that if it is not the way we wanted it prepared, that we needed to send it back--Needless to say, the food was delectable and prepared with excellence. I had lentil soup that was homemade and warmed the heart. The side salad was made with fresh lettuce and vegetables + homemade salad dressing that was awesome. My main course was Sammy's Lamb, which was a grilled lamb steak covered in mushrooms, walnuts, cranberries, and a delicious savory sauce. The portions were epic, really enough for two meals. We each brought home food (in to go bags). We concluded the meal with some homemade baklava, that I will probably order to go in the future (it was that good). The prices are extremely reasonable, and my total bill ended up being about half of what I expected it should have been. This is an interesting little place with the owner on site. We were a large group (more than 20) and we called ahead (definitely recommend doing this). This really helps as Abba had prepared a list of special menu items to chose from along with their regular menu. The food is excellent (the filet is world class prepared and presented as in the blackened options) but the reason for this review is to bring everyone's attention to the Baklava. As a retired professional chef, I cannot endorse this restaurant too much. Abba, or more affectionately, Abbie, has a knack of creating dishes that will not only please your palate but will also amaze you with its complexity. His interpretation of Dolmathes is soothing to the tongue with a balsamic brown sauce that tickles the palate. The pita (pizza) is loaded with fresh cucumber, tomato, oregano and feta will surprise you with a sauce that is incomparable for such a dish. I highly recommend the Sam's Lamb which was perfectly cooked. The accompanying sauce of cranberries, brown sauce, and red cabbage was a very interesting sweet and sour delicacy. Their wine selection is excellent, and their service efficient, thoughtful and not overly solicitous. This was possibly the most abysmal dining experience I've ever endured. After being served soup made with chicken (after asking the waiter if it was vegetarian), having drinks dropped on us, wrong dishes served, and food being completely forgotten, along with a member of our party having to break up our own checks because the manager refused, the manager then came out again to yell aggressively at our table about us needing to pay for food that was never served. It felt as though we were being held hostage by the most absurd plethora of comedic foolishness usually reserved for Shakespearean plays. However, if you still feel the need to experience this for yourself, I suggest ordering to go, getting the hummus (which is, indeed, delicious), and maybe having several bottles of wine on hand to handle the stress. read more

Excellent food all around. Owner keeps coming around to see that all is as it should be and brings out unexpected surprises, like a table serving of their rice and another of pasta. I also didn't expect dinner salads either, as they weren't listed with the specials. The grouper with aparagus and artichoke hearts in a white wine sauce with sauteed vegetables was very good, and a sizable portion, . We didn't expect the Baklava afterwards either. The specials were marvelous, and appetizers quite nice. Stuffed grape leaves were as good as I have had, and not sour or pickled like most. The hummus was not as thick as most but the flavor was good. Prices were quite reasonable as well. Most entrees were under $15.00, and the dinner portion of lasagna was $7.95. Usually Middle Eastern restaurants have plenty of vegetarian choices. NOT HERE. In fact the Hummus was absolutely miserable, watery even. The falafel were hard like hockey pucks. Are you kidding? This is one of my FAVORITE places to dine. The food is ALWAYS fresh and cooked to order. The hummus is the BEST I've ever tasted, using fresh garlic. The seafood bisque is rich tomato based...delicious. The Shrimp Barcelona with pasta***** And their baklava is truly the tastiest I've ever had, (I travel extensively and have eaten all over) made with real butter and pastry. It is comfort food. They do not mass produce anything which is why it is soooo delicious. The limited menu permits them to focus on a few wonderful items. Yes, the atmosphere isn't fabulous, but it's far from bad, kind of homey middle eastern, but clean. Even the fan blowing gives a sense of old time homeyness (it is air-conditioned).
