There are lots of dressings, sauces and salads to add to your order ( included in price). Like your first trip to boba, when you were not sure about flavors, popping, jellies etc, you need to dive in and ask questions. They always have babaganoush (eggplant spread) and an eggplant salad. Super nice people, was there midday so didn't have to wait.I had the falafel bowl. I added eggplant salad, olives, pickled onion cucumber salad and baba ganoush. The falafels were nicely crispy on the outside and not dry in the middle. However, there was so much hummus and baba it just made the whole thing so heavy. And they are both very rich, and gooey, not thick. I think this bowl would be better served with some kind of salad base, with less of the gooey stuff. I normally want a lot of hummus, but this type of hummus is just way too rich and heavy. Way too much food, and at $20, I would prefer they had a smaller version available. Stopped in here to pick up dinner this evening, shortly before the restaurant closed. The helpings are generous so we got two pita sandwiches for three people. We ordered the chicken shawarma which was excellent -- moist and richly seasoned. The other was a falafel sandwich. The falafel balls were good if a little plain. But the sides that went into it, especially the eggplant and cabbage salads, took the sandwich to the next level. The pita is a standout item on the menu, so you can't go wrong with any of the dishes that come with/in it. Both were pillowy and warm to the last bite! read more

Far and away the best falafel sandwich I've had since I moved back to the Bay Area last year. Falafel are made to order - nutty, herbal, crunchy. Pita bread is homemade and Israeli style - thick, with a pocket to accomodate the fillings. Speaking of fillings, beyond the falafel, they are too many to enumerate. I kept it simple with dill pickled cucumbers, red cabbage, tomatoes and cucumber, and pureed jalapeno sauce. Generous portion of everything. Service is efficient and no-nonsense. Instead, I was just scrolling through photos and came across one of the enormous and generous portion of food I received at Abba's --for a super reasonable cost for the Bay Area --especially when you consider it's kosher. My boss was in town from Los Angeles for a few days, and I proposed a few lunch and dinner spots for the two of us and another teammate to check out. Abba's Hummus was at the top of the list, so we went that first day. I ordered shawarma and a second meat -- I think it was BBQ brisket --to go with the hummus and pita. I was expecting four toppings, but the person serving me let me choose a fifth. I got purple cabbage salad, beets, maybe an eggplant dish, and a couple others. Everything was very tasty, and my colleagues enjoyed lunch as well. I came nowhere close to finishing, as this lunch was enough for multiple meals. I don't even think I finished it the next day. I've been searching for a legit hummus shop in the Bay area and I'm happy to say that I've found the one! So stop what you're doing and go grab a meal at this mom and pop shop. There's an ordering station and then they call your number. The store was a bit crazy since there were a couple of families with larger orders and the area is small. Once my number was called, I selected the 4 sides that I wanted. The pickles and the amba sauce were the best part. I liked that they didn't skimp on the sides and added more if requested. Again the AMBA sauce is amazing! You just have to get it. There's a nice outdoor sitting patio. I'll be back again! read more

In the lakeshore neighborhood of. Oakland there's a new New York deli. I wanted a sandwich and stopped by. This place is two store fronts with a full, kosher deli and grocery store. The menu had authentic Mediterranean dishes and some traditional deli favorites. I was going to order a smoked Turkey sandwich, but decided to stretch my palate and ordered something called a Sabich, which had fried eggplant, hard boiled egg and up to four toppings from their deli bar. I added babaganoush (eggplant hummus), pickled onions, and purple cabbage salad. It was all put into a toasted pita, with some added tahini, and wrapped in foil to go. I also added some chicken soup to round it out. The pita was delicious! Such a mix of flavors and textures. The soup was mostly broth, but a strong bullion chicken flavor. More veggies would have been nice, but it was the real deal. The issue with my visit was the pace of getting the order. It took a good 20 minutes for me to place the order and receive it. There was one guy working the deli counter, one guy working the store and another buzzing around. There was only one guy ahead of me, but the line grew after I placed my order. First time here, always meant to try and finally did it! I ordered the pastrami sandwich and it came with the choice of coleslaw or potato salad. I opted for the former. They made the sandwich on the spot and called you when it was ready. I like that they have a store there too. They had seating outside but I'm not sure they wipe down after each customer. I did not see them do so. The sandwich was good, pastrami on point and I love the pickle. The cold slaw tasted watered down and a little old . I was just strolling around the neighborhood looking for something new to eat. Every time I see NY deli, I think of Katz deli. That was the reason I went in, wondered around and the tough decision was a bowl or a pastrami sandwich. I went with a 1/2 lb pastrami sandwich with everything on rye bread. Let me just say "OMG!" The meat was thinly sliced and stacked high, came with a choose of potato salad or slaw. Creamy, tender, and Smokey. I try and get this as much as possible. The pita is soft, fluffy, and delicious even after a short car ride. The pita sandwiches are like-wise huge and stuffed to the absolute max. This was going to be a one star review based on truly abysmal service. The food is fine. I was here for lunch with a friend, we spent $40 + tip for a falafel sandwich and four salad assortment. When we sat down and opened the foil packet with the pita for the four salad combo, we were surprised to see only one pita. I went inside to ask for another. The counter guy said it would be a while - because it had to be heated and there was other food in the oven. I said cold pita was fine. He told me it was a $1.20. I offered the cash. He then told me I had to wait on a line of about 6 people. Amazingly poor service. I told him I'd be leaving a one star Yelp review and went back to the outside table to finish eating hummus and baba ganoosh with my fingers. A young woman did bring us another pita. 5 stars for her. Minus one for the rude colleague and the generally poor service here. I've been here before and while this was the worst service, it's never good. They act like people are invisible. Found this lovely little gem while walking around the Oakland Lakeshore neighborhood. Attached to a deli, Abba's Hummus offers a great option for vegans and vegetarians who are looking for a variety of Middle Eastern food. I ordered one of their vegan bowls, which consisted of a thick layer hummus stacked with mushrooms and caramelized onions. To it, you're allowed to choose whatever salads you want. In this case, "salads" are things like (cous cous) tabouli, lightly pickled cucumber slices, beets, and a refreshing cucumber/tomato salad. They had other toppings, like tsatziki, which works if you're vegetarian and you eat dairy. Accompanying the salad is probably the BEST slice of pita bread I've EVER had. They heat it on the spot, and it puffs up to this soft, pliable, delicious round goodness that is to die for. I should've bought extra pita bread slices ($1.00 per extra slice) because it was simply divine. The ordering counter is located right inside. The interior area is a grocery store full of imported foods from Israel. They also have a number of outdoor tables for those who want to dine on-site. read more

Our usual felafel/kabab place was closed today so we thought we would try a new place since we had a craving. The reviews were good and most said portions were huge so we thought that was the reason for the higher prices. Food was okay -but we are comparing them to our favorite place which has more flavors/spice, and sauce. Abba's tahini sauce was very thin (both in flavor and texture) which made a mess. The portions were average so the price seemed high for what you get. Lastly, I was unhappy to see how much plastic packaging was used. For that reason alone, I would not order from them, again (even if we did love the food). Our usual place uses paper wrapping so there isn't any plastic at all -the waste can all go into the compost. read more

Stellar falafel! Crispy outside and not overcooked! I had the lamb and beef kebab sandwich (I think--I was looking a Doner kebab and the friendly person taking the order said it was close--no lie!) spicy+hummus...two thumbs up! My friend had a burger and fries, which he said were exceptional....i had a few of the fries and these folks are absolute masters of deep frying technique...super crispy exterior, light, fluffy, tasty on the inside--just like the falafel. We ate out on the pavement on a beautiful day so the ambiance is 5 stars--but this really isn't a first date place...friendly service, but it's basically a takeaway with some tables on the street. Every scoop of everything was stand alone so the idea of everything at once with some hot pita bread was enticing. The dude was chill and walked me through options, suggested if I couldn't decide between beef and chicken he would go off the menu and do both. If I were to buy all these things at the store it would be expensive and go bad before I finished it all. This was a great lunch and I can't wait to go back. 10/10 possibly my new favorite spot. Wow, what an amazing place! This is as authentic Israeli food as you're going to find in the Bay Area (unless you're eating at someone's house ). Everything I had here was amazing, special shout out to the shawarma and hummus which was huge and satisfying. Plus you get to choose any of the delicious salads to go on top of it, just like in Israel. For those who don't know, this is connected to a kosher butcher so there is also a mini grocery store where you can find foods from Israel, Kosher wine, etc. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I was in last week and had the best sabich sandwich. At first I thought, $17 for a sandwich, and the description is sort of plain. However you not only get the egg, eggplant, you get to choose what ever else you (they do the stuffing for you) can stuff into a pita from their cold bar- hummus, coleslaw, pickles, cucumber salad, and many other choices. Which is no surprise because I've been buying hummus from their market for a while and it's basically the best hummus I've ever had (and I've had a lot). But the shawarma that came with the hummus (as well as the various assorted toppings/salads) were all excellent as well. I'll probably have to make this part of my weekly, or at least bi-weekly rotation. You get a pita with your bowl, but make sure to ask for a spoon as well since 1 pita might not be enough in terms of pita:hummus ratio. read more

The cold food cases seem well-stocked and organized from a distance, but there seems to be little interest in making the general environment visually comfortable. When we had lunch there there were stacks of boxes in the back and on top of the coolers. There was an outside/street dining area with only a couple of tables scattered about the fenced in pavement and a literal heap of cardboard in the corner. The food was only tolerable, hence overpriced with sandwiches averaging about $15. Yum!!! My hubby has been raving about this place for weeks and I finally joined him for lunch today - so glad I did. We had the pastrami sandwich on rye and a hummus bowl. Hands down the best pastrami sandwich I've ever had - the meat practically melted in my mouth and the bread was soft and delicious. My hubby is from Israel and he is incredibly picky about his hummus - he loves Abba's hummus. I know his co-worker often drives up from San Jose just to eat here. I'd say about 1/2 the clientele was speaking Hebrew, so you know this is some authentic Israeli food. I will be back often. read more
