I meant to write this review a few months ago when my visit to Abba's Hummus was fresh in my mind. Instead, I was just scrolling through photos and came across one of the enormous and generous portion of food I received at Abba's --for a super reasonable cost for the Bay Area --especially when you consider it's kosher. My boss was in town from Los Angeles for a few days, and I proposed a few lunch and dinner spots for the two of us and another teammate to check out. Abba's Hummus was at the top of the list, so we went that first day. I ordered shawarma and a second meat -- I think it was BBQ brisket --to go with the hummus and pita. I was expecting four toppings, but the person serving me let me choose a fifth. I got purple cabbage salad, beets, maybe an eggplant dish, and a couple others. Everything was very tasty, and my colleagues enjoyed lunch as well. I came nowhere close to finishing, as this lunch was enough for multiple meals. I don't even think I finished it the next day. I will absolutely be back.

I've been searching for a legit hummus shop in the Bay area and I'm happy to say that I've found the one! So stop what you're doing and go grab a meal at this mom and pop shop. There's an ordering station and then they call your number. The store was a bit crazy since there were a couple of families with larger orders and the area is small. Once my number was called, I selected the 4 sides that I wanted. The pickles and the amba sauce were the best part. I liked that they didn't skimp on the sides and added more if requested. Again the AMBA sauce is amazing! You just have to get it. There's a nice outdoor sitting patio. I'll be back again!

We had Abba's Hummus (also Oakland Kosher Foods) cater our family event for 150 people. WOW! Not only were they super easy to work with, but their food was absolutely incredible. We had compliments from our friends and family all month! If you aren't familiar with their food, you can get lunch at Abba's Hummus, which is a part of the Oakland Kosher Food market. Same food! We will have leftovers in our freezer for months. This was by far the best option for our budget. They delivered on time, the platters were decorated beautifully. All around perfection. We ordered for 150 people: 1. Fruit platters 2. Hummus 3. Baba Ganoush 4. Falafel 5. Pita 6. Kebabs 7. Chicken Schwarma 8. Beets 9. Moroccan Carrots 10. Israeli salad

Was looking for a place that serves falafels, hummus, shawarmas, etc. in the Oakland Lakeshore area and based on reviews gave this place a try. We ordered the Hummus bowl with Shawarma which comes with 4 different toppings of your choice and and the Sabich Sandwich. I really liked the hummus bowl with two types of egg plant, beets, carrots and spicy sauce. The hummus bowl was really good, with everything seasoned to perfection ! The sabich was just ok in my opinion but would have been better if so it sauce was added. The pita bread was soft and chewy in a good way. There is also a grocery store and deli available for a full in shopping experience. Thinking this might be my new go to spot for this type of fare !

In the lakeshore neighborhood of. Oakland there's a new New York deli. I wanted a sandwich and stopped by. This place is two store fronts with a full, kosher deli and grocery store. The menu had authentic Mediterranean dishes and some traditional deli favorites. I was going to order a smoked Turkey sandwich, but decided to stretch my palate and ordered something called a Sabich, which had fried eggplant, hard boiled egg and up to four toppings from their deli bar. I added babaganoush (eggplant hummus), pickled onions, and purple cabbage salad. It was all put into a toasted pita, with some added tahini, and wrapped in foil to go. I also added some chicken soup to round it out. The pita was delicious! Such a mix of flavors and textures. The soup was mostly broth, but a strong bullion chicken flavor. More veggies would have been nice, but it was the real deal. The issue with my visit was the pace of getting the order. It took a good 20 minutes for me to place the order and receive it. There was one guy working the deli counter, one guy working the store and another buzzing around. There was only one guy ahead of me, but the line grew after I placed my order. It's a new shop, so they will figure it out, but worth a stop for the food!

First time here, always meant to try and finally did it! I ordered the pastrami sandwich and it came with the choice of coleslaw or potato salad. I opted for the former. They made the sandwich on the spot and called you when it was ready. I like that they have a store there too. They had seating outside but I'm not sure they wipe down after each customer. I did not see them do so. The sandwich was good, pastrami on point and I love the pickle. The cold slaw tasted watered down and a little old . The sandwich was smaller than what you get at Ike's which I prefer. Overall good sandwich but not the best I've had.

    Vegan hummus w 4 falafels $14

The place has a few vegan options . I ordered the hummus w 4 falafels that came w 4 sides of my choosing. The food was delicious - fresh and funny. I also bought the almond halvah, and it was super fresh and fluffy, not dense at all, just falling apart in my mouth - delicious. The guy that was helping me was not rude but not too nice either; very direct bit short , to the point. CC accepted.

I was just strolling around the neighborhood looking for something new to eat. Every time I see NY deli, I think of Katz deli. That was the reason I went in, wondered around and the tough decision was a bowl or a pastrami sandwich. I went with a 1/2 lb pastrami sandwich with everything on rye bread. Let me just say "OMG!" The meat was thinly sliced and stacked high, came with a choose of potato salad or slaw. Everything was delicious and fresh, I can honestly say, I haven't had such a good pastrami sandwich in a long time! This is def going to be my go to spot for a bomb pastrami sando from now on. Must try!

Meandering along the road looking for something to eat, happened across this place ... Okay WOW. YUMMMMM The hummus place I'm familiar with and fond of is Oren's, across the bay for the most part...but this will probably be my east bay go-to. VERY tasty hummus, VERY tasty toppings, and PLENTY of toppings to boot!! Impressed and satiated. Small, tiny criticisms: -i feel like maybe some of the toppings should be strained, I ended up with a puddle on my hummus. Maybe I just got too many toppings? It was absolutely delicious anyways. - feel like maybe I could do with a little more hummus - portion of actual hummus to toppings was a liiiiiiittle bit small. - one pita feels a little small. I would definitely pay for a second one next time!

They have a modest but solid selection of Italian deli meats (Serrano ham, prosciutto, pancetta, etc), pasta, olive oil, vinegars, and a couple specialty jams (calabrian chile orange, etc) - basically all you'd need for a gourmet charcuterie board meal or snack. Last time I was here, picked ip a bottle of nicely aged balsamic vinegar from Italy, which has lasted me for a couple years. Today, decided to try one of their specialty Italian sandwiches with a shot of expresso on the side... and Mama Mia was the sandwich absolutely amazing! I highly recommend the Jamon Serrano & Manchego sandwich ($14.50). It comes with shaved ribbons of serrano ham, 1/5 inch thick slice of aged manchego cheese, a creamy spread of chevre goat cheese, chopped/marinated artichokes and arugula greens on a crusty/crunchy baguette (between half to a full foot long). I practically finished this within 10 minutes - it was so good! The expresso shot ($3.25) was also a good pairing for me. Loved the aroma, made from nicely dark roasted beans. Inside the venue there's shelves on the back wall, with Italian dry goods, oils, vinegars, jams, etc for sale. Seating indoors is about 5ish tables for 2 or more. Outside sidewalk has a couple tables too. Located on the corner of 9th & Washington St, mostly metered street parking in this area and a small hourly parking lot across the street.

Definitely try their bahn mi if you go. It has a unique profile to it. There is limited indoor seating if you're looking to chill for a bit before heading out to the rest of your day... perhaps in Jack London Square, where it's situated. But since most people order to-go it works out & you'll likely find a spot to sit at if you want to. Moreover they have a decent selection of IPAs, other beers, wines, confectionery items, ice and other "convenience" items. Pretty normal pricing for a Bay Area spot. It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.
