For those who don't know, this is the home stadium of The Glasgow Tigers motorbike racing team. It replaced the old dog track, and from the size of the place, you can tell it used to race dogs. The clientelle also give that impression, but whilst the place has the vibe of a gamblers dream, it also has the vibe of a family friendly day out. There were loads of families with young kids, all trussed up in Glasgow Tiger gear, shouting for their favourite riders with an infectious excitment. And you can see why when the riders started racing - it really is exciting to watch - short snappy races, the engines loud enough to deafen the audience. Stand back though - if you get too close you get hit by sand spray as they turn wide corners on the circular track. My young friend absolutely loved it, and I couldn't recommend it as a good weekend day out to entertain the kids more. For the adults, it's great for a flutter, and for just the atmosphere of the place. Slightly seedy but friendly and comfortable. Suits Glasgow down to the ground.

The Tigers aren't one of speedway's great teams, but they have some top quality riders and the racing is generally tight and exciting. There's a bar, cheap snacks, a stall filled with racing memorabilia, but the racing is at the centre of the entertainment. Try standing by the starting gate to get the full-throttle excitement, although I prefer the third bend, where it is easier to catch the entire race. Don't watch from the bar though: the fences hide about half of the track. Far from the sectarian intensity of football, speedway does offer plenty of drama and danger.

I could not have any higher regard for this club and hence the 5 stars. *** return to regular review *** Ayr may be the county town of Ayrshire, but Kilmarnock is the biggest team in the region. Known as Killie, they even have their own brand of food: Killie Pies. Very delicious steak pies that are *only* sold at the stadium and were voted the most delicious pies in all of football. They were formed way way way back in 1869 and play in a massive stadium to 18k people. They recently won the Scottish League Cup beating Celtic in the final in 2012, so they have some real recent success in a land where most clubs don't. They play in ugly dark blue but you can't have everything. They are the oldest club in Scotland and one of the best. They won the Scottish League just once, in 1965, their greatest achievement. They were runners up 4 times, in 4 of the 5 years before they won it, in fact. Thank goodness they finally went all the way (that's what she said). They have won the coveted Scottish Cup three times, in 1920, 1929, and famously in 1997, so well done! They've been SC runners up 5 times and SLC runners up 5 times including 2001 and 2007. At their 6th attempt, they finally won the SLC in 2012 as aforementioned.

We were recently guest commentators at the stadium on the Ayrshire Hospitals Radio Network. We even had a press pass, ate Killie pies and got a photo with our headsets on! They organises a range of activities for all ages and abilities, from the teaching of beginners to hosting large national and world championship events. They have regular racing for dinghies and keelboats, and have an active cruising section that organises cruises in company around the Clyde and the west of Scotland, and holds regular talks and skills workshops. Members can also hire our facilities for anything from a business meeting to a wedding, There is food facilities there and evening meals.

The cricket and rugby club has recent been done up to enhance the bar area. There's now a pretty…read moredecent bar (instead of the previous hole in the wall) serving beer, wine, soft drinks and one or two spirits. The bathrooms have also been spruced up a bit and the ladies was immaculately clean. Looks like the club really looks after their cricket players - when we arrived they were having a meeting with tea and coffee, sandwiches and even Krispy Kreme donuts ready for the players. We spent more time in the room next door which is used for functions (in our case the boyfriend's nephew's 6th birthday party). It's a good space for small events and the staff try hard to get it right for you. If you're local to the area this is fairly ideal for small parties and gatherings.

Haha!) and I have…read moreto say I did not even know this place existed until a taxi took me past here one day & I spotted the Glasgow Club sign. This is SO handy for my work and until Kelvinhall gets its act together & finally re-opens this shall be my 'local' GC gym. Drumoyne GC is like Haghill in that it is also adjoined to the local primary school, this makes it a lot easier to find/ask directions as if you say 'Drumoyne GC' to most folk they probably wouldn't have a clue but if you asked whereabouts the local primary school is most peeps would know. Plus this time of year it is great as the school & GC are all lit up quite brightly which makes it a lot less spookier when approaching & leaving the place. I've only been twice so far; once to the gym & again for a class. The gym is an okay size - similar to Haghill or Springburn with about 4 or 5 of most cardio machines plus weight machines and also 2 seperate areas for free weights/mat work. They have the music channel on the main stereo system but some machines have wee tv's to which you can plug in headphones so you can climb a hill whilst watching Pointless if you so wish. S'nice. The room for the classes is also of reasonable size and I have to say they put on quite a few different classes and various times for a quite small GC venue. The room fits maybe about 20 people tops, depending on the class. I went for Body Pump and I presumed I was the only non-regular there as I was the only one she singled out & said 'Have you done Body Pump before?' too. Most others are hardcore regular pumpers (ooh-err!) and by the end of the class it showed (I was sweating like a beast & most of them were all staying on for another class! Crazy!) Really enjoyed the class and I ended having to be right at the front directly in front of the instructor (which I wouldn't normally choose to do) but it was fine - she kept me right with my posture/moves which considering I hadn't done BP for a while was helpful. She was a tad scary at first but then again a lot of these instructors can be...*sorry GC instructors!* The changing area was clean & had quite a few private showers, toilets & lockers are placed nearby and all are within the vicinity of the gym or class-hall so it means you can make a swift entrance & exit if in a hurry. Lockers here take a £1 so please don't be like me & forget to bring one...doh. Luckily the lady on reception handed me some change, phew. Mon-Thur Drumoyne GC opens from 9am-10pm, on a Friday it shuts a bit earlier at 9pm and at the weekends it's open 9am-5pm. They also have 7 & 11 a-side 2G & 3G (haven't a clue what that means?!) football pitches alongside grass rugby & footie pitches. Public transport-wise the nearest subway is Govan but it is quite a walk away so I usually get a bus from here to the subway station as there are bus stops directly outside and all the buses that stop here seem pretty regular. It is also about a 15 minute walk from the Southern General hospital.

The lounge area covered with plaques and old shirts is comfortable and warm, and has satellite television to watch to take your mind off the team's woes if necessary. Down sides? The catering could be a bit cheaper, but the coffee is plentiful and hot, a necessity for the life of a parent who attends rugby matches in Scotland in winter and spring. And summer too, now I think about it. The welcome was fantastic, as always, and the coaches and referee from the home team always have a smile on their face and encourage positive play from both teams; at one point one of the GHA coaches asked permission to offer some advice to our players! There's only 3 stands at Scotstoun, but at £15 for a standing ticket (in advance) you can't complain about watching Glasgow's only pro rugby team. Watching rugby live isn't like watching it on TV, the atmosphere is much better than you'd expect for 6000 people. On match days you'll find plenty of small food trucks, a dedicated Guinness bar (pro12 sponsors) as well as the clubhouse which has a bar, food & pre/post match entertainment. There's a merchant stall as well as a kids zone to keep the wains entertained. The one difference between football & rugby games is that you'll find some of the players wandering around & taking part in passing circles with kids etc. If you've never been down to a rugby match at Scotstoun, then you're missing out on a great afternoon/evening. There's beer as well!

In line with the general run of Glasgow Council's pools, the centre is immaculately clean, and a gym membership covers all of the Council's sports' facilities. The gym is busy and businesslike: Scoutstoun is the ideal place for a complete work out, even if it is some distance from the town centre and slightly off the beaten track. The sauna suite suite is especially impressive, with a women only night on Tuesday, but it always worth catching a class or two. The Body Combat is good for a high energy laugh.

But then, that probably tells you all you need to know about this enigmatic club. Much like Junior Football in Glasgow as a whole, Maryhill Juniors operate somewhat under the radar. Their stadium is inconspicuously situated just off Maryhill Road, while matches are rarely publicised outwith minuscule mentions in the Friday edition of the Evening Times. Interaction with the local community seems to be nonexistent, with many newcomers to the area unaware of the club's existence. It's a shame really because the ground is a neat little junior ground and, given the comparative price of senior football, a decent alternative for those who fancy going to a game on a Saturday. The social club, I can't comment on, but the presence of barbed wire on the door is off-putting to say the least.
