TLDR; 5 stars for the view alone. No shenanigans permitted…read more We noticed, immediately upon arriving, a sign very clearly stating that guests are NOT permitted to move tables. We wondered - Why so adamant? - Until we saw the view. This is the kind of view that your own eyes can't do justice, let alone a camera. It's hard to explain. It's such a beautiful & staggering landscape, my brain couldn't really comprehend what I was looking at. Does that make sense? Then we realized that not all tables were created equal at this restaurant. Two tables, right along the edge of the deck, had a direct, unblocked line of sight to the magnificence. But how competitive could it really be? The restaurant had a superior vantage point, but they didn't own the view. You could wander the streets, untethered to a table, & get a very similar experience. The answer: VERY competitive. As we stood in line at the gate, waiting to be seated, we watched in delight as a couple who was dining at one of the superior tables stood up & prepared to leave. We were pretty chuffed at our luck, as we were next in line. We then watched as every head in the restaurant turned, seemingly in slow motion, to look at the now empty table. I felt like I was in a thriller movie. A family of four, mostly finished with their meal, motioned the server over. We couldn't hear what they were saying, but we saw them gesturing at the superior table & picking up their plates & glasses to relocate. The server whipped around, looked directly at us, watching with disappointment, & asked "You were next in line. Do you want that table?" We felt like little kids but we nodded. The server denied the family's request & led us over to the magnificent view. We felt a little bit awkward after that, but the feelings of gratitude toward the server absolutely outweighed the awkwardness. I'm sure that the server (maybe owner?) has put up with so much nonsense over the years. It was clear that this wasn't the first, second, or even hundredth time that this sort of situation had occurred. She handled it with the efficiency of a kindergarten teacher breaking up a fight. We also felt like kindergarteners, but it was all worth it. Food: Good, but many ingredients were out of season. It was January in Masca. Understandable. Drink: Tasty. Unsure if my mojito had any alcohol in it. Who cares. View: Priceless.
