So my wife and I pass by here all the time and say, we have to stop by and check that place out. Well we did and we ate our 33rd annual meal there, aka Anniversary. What a pleasant surprise! I called to see if they took reservations and they do but you really don't need one. We were seated right away 15 minutes before our res. Our server Dottie was so delightful! When asked if I could have oil and vinegar on my salad she replied would you like to try our balsamic vinaigrette? It our own? I immediately thought yes, why didn't I think of that! It was very good! We even put some in the dipping oil served with the warm fresh dinner bread. The service was outstanding the menu was right on and the food was well portioned and excellent!! We both enjoyed the eve and decided this is a new spot that we will definitely return to. Although there are other places closer, we felt that this place had that special charm about it. The menu is exciting and we were looking forward to it. I made a reservation and they didn't have it. Sat my sister and her husband then moved us when we arrived to another table as I'm using a wheelchair (which I mentioned when reserving a table and which my sister mentioned when they arrived first). The waitresses were very kind and trying to just give us room but I literally called that day to reserve and if they'd not lost it they'd have been better prepared. Burrata appetizer was delicious, as was the crab cake. The stuffed pepper appetizer was just meh. The salads came and my husband's looked totally different--ours had lots of veggies, his looked like it had almost nothing on it. We mentioned it, I actually asked if it was a different one altogether, but they were just like, "nope, it's the same!" Well, okay then.... Anyway, I thought mine looked pretty good. The plate was warm, however, and I'm not sure if that's why but the dark green lettuce was very limp and not appetizing. It didn't look old or slimy but had that mouth-feel to it. I ordered lobster ravioli with vodka sauce and it was beyond salty! My husband and sister both got the Tour of Italy and both said the lasagna was the same way. The sauces are different for lobster ravioli and lasagna so why they were both very salty is beyond me. I would love that burrata appetizer again but won't be going back, unfortunately. read more

Got takeout from Abruzzi tonight. I was disappointed to see that only about half of the kitchen staff were wearing masks, and several of those were not coving their noses. There was an older, well-dressed gentleman in the kitchen as well, assuming he is a supervisor/owner? No mask. Given the current outbreak of COVID in the area, I will not be ordering from Abruzzi again. I don't want to hear anything about how it's so hard to work in a kitchen while wearing a mask. I wear one at my job for 12+ hours a shift, often while also wearing a plastic gown, face shield, and head covering, and I am constantly moving. It's not comfortable, I get it. Stop prolonging the pandemic by refusing to do the bare minimum to protect others, and we can all get back to normal. read more

MY 2 CENTS! DISAPPOINTED! I have been to Abruzzi Italian Cucina on Route 30 in Irwin several times. I have recommended it to friends, I have introduced out of town business travelers to the restaurant, and my wife and I have dined there on numerous occasions, even taking our grown children along too. Friday the power was out at home, so off to dinner we go. Wife has a coupon. But we are dieting, so no drinks this time, but an appetizer and two (not inexpensive) salads. When presented with the check, I offer the $5 off coupon, but I'm told the check must exceed $40 BEFORE the taxes. That's ok, but my check is $39.98 before the sales tax. Are you kidding me...for 2 cents??? Normally, I calculate my 20% tip on the full check and round down, so this would have been at least an $8 tip. I calculated it a bit differently than normal and I won't be back, just my 2 cents. I'll stick to Cenacola from now on. read more

Wow!!! I found a new food fav. Love the look of Abruzzi's and food is incredible. Girlfriend had the gluten free pizza and Caesar salad which was "Yummy". I had the "Taste of Italy", which was incredible. The lasagne was the best I ever had. Even better than mine that I make. I will definitely gonna be visiting again soon. My wife found this place somehow, and we decided to try it. We've been back twice since, and both those times in the same week-once for a birthday dinner for her brother and sister-in-law. The servers are very attentive and our last one was quite good and friendly. As for the food, it depends on your taste. My wife loved the wedding soup (though one day it was a bit too salty) and, while she found the calzones okay, she really enjoyed the fettuccini alfredo. She prefers sausage to the menu items (chicken and shrimp) which they did for her. This also resulted in two meals, there and a sizable leftover so the portions are great. I liked the chicken marsala well enough but my go-to meal will likely be the crab cakes, which are exceptional. There is also a single crab cake appetizer so if you want to try it alongside your regular entree, there is that option. The salad and bread dipped in oil and herbs are also very good, so if you are looking for a great meal in an informal setting, this is an ideal choice. read more

First off, name is confusing. On Yelp it's "Amato's Italian Cucina" twice, but the sign and menu reads "Abruzzi" so I'm not really sure what it's going on. In my experience, a great way to distinguish between an excellent Italian Restaurant and an average Italian Restaurant, is to try the most basic of American-Italian dish's, Spaghetti and Meatballs. Abruzzi does not pass the test. The noodles tasted like they were store-bought. The sauce was horrible, very watery and did not stick to the noodles at all (Might be good on pizza, but not pasta). However, the meatballs were pretty good, seasoned well and had really good flavor. The second time I went, I tried the Alfredo, which was very good. I also opted for the Wedding Soup instead of the salad and was very happy because it was very good. We got the tiramisu to-go which was great, the custard was pretty much the best around, but it was veryyy wet so it did not hold up on the drive home. The reason for the 2 stars is because the staff was pretty horrendous. When I arrived, my boyfriend and I were the only two in the waiting area. Nobody even looked over to us to see if anyone new had come in- the teenager hostess seemed to be too busy texting- so we stood there waiting for 15 min for no reason (there were at least 5 open tables). Our waitress was pretty bad too: not friendly, didn't really pay attention to our drinks and never asked us how our food was. She also seemed to be much more attentive to her cell phone and co-worker friends rather than doing her job. How about management hire more mature employees or make sure your staff isn't texting on the job. read more

Abruzzi is an great addition to the sparse dining options here in Irwin. Arrived at 830 for dinner with my wife and a friend. The place was busy but not crowded. The decor is modern, tasteful and well done. The wait was about 25 minutes, just enough to get a drink. The bar is undersized but that's understandable for the space. The bartender was nice and attentive. The waitstaff was quick and attentive once we were seated, drinks quick and waters all around without asking. The noise in the dining area was pretty low save for an unruly child's screaming and parents unwilling to take control. Olive oil with an herb and spice Parmesan complimented the fresh bread served. Honestly I was impressed by the bread it was perfect, dense, crusty, and honestly I had to hold back from eating all of it. H Meal was timely and well portioned. I had the Diablo pasta while my wife had the spinach ravioli. My pasta was great, spicy, saucy, al dente and well spiced. Her ravioli were well done with a nice pesto which she loved. The serving plates were plain and unattractive. My pasta was in a handled dish which was weird and my friends crab cake was just sitting on a plate with no garnish of any kind. It was the worst part of the meal. Presentation means something and the presentation was poor. This is the reason for my 4 star rating. I'm ordering pizza from there now. read more

We had reservations at Abruzzi but still when our group of 6 got there, we had to wait for awhile. The greeters and seat staff are very young and need more training. Our waitress was awesome!!! Now for the food, we have been here many times, but sorry the food is awful and not worth the money. Don't order the lobster raviolis because there is no lobster in them and you only get 5, now go to Olives and peppers restaurant and you get real lobster raviolis and about 10 f them on your plate. I went here with my father last week. The hostess was friendly and I really loved the atmosphere. Music was what I would hope from an Italian restaurant (oldies/Italian). The decor was really neat and I loved what they did to the walls. The food was really good! I liked how they served bread with dipping oil. I ordered the spinach ravioli with pesto sauce - it was great. My father ordered the pasta e olio, which he also enjoyed. It came with soup or salad - the salad was good. The only thing we didn't really like was our waitress was not very friendly. She was never rude, but it was like she was doing a job. I know work is work, but if she just acted like she was happy to have us, that would have made the experience much better. My father remarked it seemed like she had "attitude." I would like to go back, though, to try some of their other menu items. read more

I've seen the very well-designed signage during a trip down Route 30, and put this place on on my to-try list. On a Friday night in November, my girlfriend and I decided we wanted Italian, but were in no mood to deal with the crowds and the possible long wait times of spots in Pittsburgh, so we took a drive 40 minutes away to check out Abruzzi. We had no wait for a large, comfortable booth. It looks like they hire local high school kids to wait and bus tables, all of whom were great. Friendly server, friendly hostess, friendly busboy. Definitely not the type of service I am used to seeing in the city. Not a facial piercing in sight, either! Food for both my girlfriend and myself was quite good, definitely above average. Good portions, good taste, everything was as it should be. I'm not the biggest fan of Italian food, but this definitely got my attention. The prices seemed perfectly fair. We will be returning next time we want some Italian food in a quiet, friendly setting. read more

Nice casual authentic Italian restaurant right off of rt 30 in Irwin. Ordered a bottle of a very good dry Italian wine for a decent price of $30. There are many other bottles of wine, but that was the one we chose as it most resembled an Italian dry red. The food was very good. We ordered stuff peppers (3 decently size peppers), about 12 disk type fried zucchini slices, spicy shrimp pasta (forgot the name of it), and the spicy diablo pasta. All were very good and had nice size portions. The staff was very good and the food came out in a timely fashion. Also the bread and dipping oil I could of had a meal of. One thing I did forget is they have a creamy Parmesan dressing for the salad that is amazing! Definitely recommend trying this place out if you haven't yet. read more

We dined in Sunday evening. After a weekend full of adulting chores we looked on the internet for closing. It said 9 we arrived at 7. Noticed all other patrons have left. We asked our waitress what time they close and she said eight. We apologized she said no worries Internet is wrong in time we got her appetizer... then asked the manager to tell our waitress to go ahead and box up our dinner that way they can leave for the night the manager insisted that we stay enjoy your dinner they had work that they needed to be done and didn't make us feel rushed. Actually it get like we were having a true Italian family dinner. Our food wasn't dry being the last meal served actually it was amazing!!!! Thank you for being the best restaurant in Irwin! My husband and I had to cancel our Valentine's Day dinner reservations due to inclement weather. Instead, we decided to stay local and visited Abruzzi's. The restaurant was not at all crowded (which we thought was due to the weather), and we were the only ones in the lobby waiting to be seated. After the hostess walked past us twice, she finally acknowledged us and asked if we wanted a table or a booth. We chose a booth and were seated at the first one directly behind the hostess station and near the staff entry/exit to the kitchen. The menus still list the old restaurant name, Amatos, and were supplemented with paper inserts to display the updated menu (even though this restaurant just recently opened). As we reviewed the menu, two servers and the hostess walked past our table multiple times. We decided on our drink and entree selections and placed our menus at the end of the table to signal that we were ready to order. While waiting, I noticed that the tables around us were receiving drinks, food, and their checks...but still, no server came to our table and there was no manager in sight. After ten minutes of waiting, we put on our coats to leave. As we were walking out, my husband informed the hostess that we had been waiting for ten minutes and were leaving since we've yet to receive service. The hostess actually asked my husband where we were seated! This restaurant is within walking distance of our home and had the potential to be a 'go to'. After this experience, we never plan to visit again. This place advertises as an "Italian Cucina", but fails to properly hire and train professional staff that reflect a welcoming, family style restaurant. What a disappointment. read more

Foods always pretty good but the last time I went I had the rudest younger girl wait on me and my friends. We all were ordering drinks and food so you'd think someone with a $65 and a $70 check at one table (all servers) wouldn't get treated like you kicked her dog or something. She asked how my food was and as I was trying to tell her it was very good I got to "very-" and she interrupted me with a "cool great" sarcastic tone. The draft beers were priced very fairly at 2.95 for Miller Lite and 4.95 for Peroni. Service was fast, almost a little rushed. The house salad was better than I expected, and the homemade dressings were a nice touch. The bread was just okay in my opinion. It would have been much better if served hot rather than warm. We had a large party of 12 and everything was great, but especially the service. Our waitress was phenomenal.... it seemed as though we were her only table from the service, but she had a lot of other customers too. She was quick with appetizers and drinks, all entrees came out of the kitchen on time and together, and she kept the water glasses full. Our family has been going since the day they opened. The open-faced meatball sandwich is fantastic. The pizza is Worthy. My only complaint is that they have the perfect setup in their bar area but it's not a really great place to watch a penguin game or any sporting event. Especially during the playoffs. You feel like you have to be quiet because of the restaurant. Nice bar terrible atmosphere for sports fans. Great food though. I would recommend Abruzzi to anybody.
