It was our last night in Prague and we wanted to do something chill and kitschy. Absintherie was the perfect choice. We got there at 10pm (they close at midnight, so we knew we weren't in for a rager) and it was busy enough to have ambience, but quiet enough so that we were able to quickly snag two seats at the bar! Front row at the show. The bartender was really skilled, efficient and hospitable. She kept the place running while turning out some beautiful (and delicious) drinks! I can't speak to what it might be like at noon (since it IS located right in the heart of Praha 1), but for a Monday night, it was great! read more

The steampunk exterioir and the "no Trndlo" sign on the outside made this very doomy looking place interesting for us, so we gave it a shot. Boy, were we not disappointed. The interior is about the best I have ever seen. A perfect combination of steampunk, gothic and bohemian elements in a black and green setting which is in equal parts a nice upscale bar and an absinth museum. Their large choice of absinth is unmatched and every single order is a highlight. Dropping water, sugarcubes, absinth spoons and dry ice. Do I need to say more? If you like darkness, mystery, stories of E.A. Poe, H.P. Lovecraft and Oscar Wilde, this place is for you. Easily one of my most favourite bars ever. read more

As a fan of the Green Fairy, it was impossible to walk past this bar without getting a drink (actually, that's not entirely true, we saw it in the morning & made careful note of which of the many winding streets it was on then took hours to find it again later..) They have a good selection of absinthe and of mixed drinks. As someone with a great thirst for... er... knowledge, there was no choice but to sample most of the absinthe based cocktails. The dry ice in the water fountain was a nice touch. Staff were friendly and fluent in English & we left very "enlightened". Only down side was that smoking is still allowed in many Czech establishments and the one person smoking had the place reeking. read more

A small place, decorated with all things absinthe and a big creepy mural of someone handing Van Gogh's ear to the green fairy. Huge selection of absinthes and quite a few cocktails . I had the raspberry bramble which was very good. My boyfriend had a pure Swiss absinthe and the bartender explained exactly how much water you should add via the funny drip thingie, whatever it's called. Delicious and I would've lived to try more cocktails (there's one with various crêmes de cacao) but I cannot drink that much alcohol ... read more

WARNING: DO NOT DRINK CZECH ABSINTHE. Now that I've said it, allow me to explain. This is a wonderfully quaint absinthe bar with excellent service just outside of Old Town Square. DO visit here. DO try absinthe, but DO NOT drink the stuff made in Czech Republic. It tastes like gasoline. My girlfriend ordered the sampler and all of the samples were poured as shots, not as traditional absinthe should be. In addition, 3 of the 4 tasted no better than grain alcohol, and lacked any of of the flavors good absinthe should have. I can drink just about anything. I could not handle these samples. Their menu is large, so there's plenty to try from. The two largest sections (it's divided by country of origin) are French and Swiss. This is because that's where you get the best, real absinthe. Definitely do order some of that. I did, and was not disappointed. The service was good, and the absinthe presentation is well done with the water rockers that drip water over a sugar cube into your absinthe perched ever so delightfully on the top of your glass. The prices are as expected, and it's a very cool place to hang out for a couple of hours trying to find your way to the green fairy. Highly recommended, just do yourself a favor and stick to the absinthe you know comes from the good places. If they're serving it as a shot or lighting things on fire, it's just a gimmick and not really what I'd recommend for anyone. But definitely DO drop by, because it's worth it. read more

Right from the outside the place sticks out with its green light and skeleton welcoming you at the door. We wanted to try absinthe and the name of the place sounded perfect to satisfy this need. They have a large choice of different absinthe (and other drinks) with Czech, Swiss and French ones, you can get them with the fountain or shots. The barman is really pro and will give you advice and prepare it for you according to what you said. The atmosphere is very green to represent the green fairy (the allusion you are supposed to see after drinking too much absinthe) and music are nicely paired to give a sort of modern but legit feeling to the bar. With a large selection of absinthe, an attentive staff and a good decoration this bar is a must do when coming to Prague. read more

Loved the dark, ethereal atmosphere. Bartenders were friendly. We got one of the traditional absinthe drinks where the absinthe drips slowly from a fountain. However, they used dry ice which made a billowing cloud..quite the show for both us and the rest of the bar patrons. Definitely worth a stop if you get absinthe from the fountain drippers! read more

It's definitely a cute bar. The concept of making any type of cocktail (ex: a mojito) with absinthe is pretty cool. It has an upstairs and downstairs. The service was pretty decent. I suggest if you are not a fan of absinthe go for the mixed drinks. read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place on our first day in Prague. We both got cocktails because we have never had absinthe before and wanted to get a taste before getting it straight up. Our waitress (brunette woman) ruined the entire experience for us. We walked in an hour before closing and she said that it was last call. I thought I mis-heard her because what kind of bar has last call an hour before closing? Still. We ordered our cocktails and really enjoyed them. A bit later, I asked her if it was possible to get an absinthe shot for my boyfriend and I to share. She said no in such a rude and condescending manner. I kept seeing drinks being made, shots being poured, and new people being let in. I was beyond shocked at the sheer disrespect we were shown at this bar. Stay away from this place. It's expensive and the staff (at least the woman we dealt with) is RUDE. read more

Amazing Absinthe bar right next to the hotel I was staying at. They have absinthe everything...suckers, candy, drinks. You can buy a shot for as little as $3 and upwards of $50 depending on the quality you want to try. The music inside was very nice and the bartender spoke english and hooked me and my friend up! Trying real, traditional absinthe has been on our bucket list for a while, so when we stumbled onto this cozy little green-glowing bar, we knew it was meant to be. And our first experience was wonderful thanks our very knowledgeable host & bartender. He took the time to explain the various types of absinthe & the methods of preparing it. Though the "fire" method sounded interesting, we wanted (& he recommended) the traditional ice water dripped over sugar cube method. A unique and very fun bar with two locations close to the old town square. Absinthe is a very high alcohol drink (at around 70%) which was banned in the early 20th century after too much consumption by the populous. It has a licorice sort of taste. Well, it is not banned anymore but unavailable in many places around the world. Our first visit to an absinthe bar was in Brussels two years ago. That place was out of control and probably a safety hazard as the sugar (which goes into your absinthe drink) was lit up right in front of our eyes. Absintherie is safer, there are no pyrotechnics at the table because the sugar is lit at the bar. There are around 50 Absinthes on the menu, average price just below $10. Very enjoyable and remember to sip + then drink water. At our second visit we had the most expensive absinthe on the menu. Very good and lucky we shared because I would be quite tipsy if I had one all to myself. Many of the great writers and thinkers from a century ago drank absinthe so give it a go! read more

Horrible service. My wife and I walked in and were told bar seats were reserved. When I asked for a menu the guy just glared at the menus on the side of the bar. We tried to find a seat upstairs and were told there was no more seats available. The place was not crowded at all. Everyone was arrogant and condescending. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Go to a different absinthe bar if you are looking for the experience. read more

The absinthe and prices were okay, but the service is by far the worst I've ever had in Prague, and I've been living here for a couple months now. The waiter was extremely rude. He wouldn't even tell us what was in some drinks because he didn't feel like making them. He made fun of us and made us feel uncomfortable, and we left as soon as possible. If you are looking for a fun absintherie in Prague I would go to one of the other ones. read more
