    Hwe dup bap
    Catherine S.

As a part of our food court lunch date, my sister and I tried the Hwe-dup-bap (Korean style sashimi don with spicy gochujang sauce) the first time and we were simply blown away. It came with tons of fresh veggies and assorted small cuts of sashimi with a side of miso and rice. Their cho-gochujang (sweet and vinegary gochujang sauce) reminded me of my mom's and when mixed in, this dish was perfection! I would dare to say that this was the best Hwe-dup-bap I've had in Toronto and that is saying A LOT. Accompanying miso soup was your standard variety. The reason for the 4 stars is from my second visit where I picked up some sushi for dinner, which ended up being just ho hum. I would definitely come back for their Hwe-dup-bap and I am super glad this place is an option in this quaint food court.

This party tray was jam-packed with amazing quality sushi! The rolls were all big, full of fish, and had just the right amount of rice. Aburi sushi had a delicious charred flavor in every bite. All of that for a pretty affordable price makes this place def worth trying.

Hidden upstairs in a food court in the Shops at One Yonge Mall, this is truly my favourite sushi places and hidden gems in the GTA. I always get my sushi platters here (despite many other sushi spots) - as they never disappoint. I usually get the Roll Tray Large (82 pieces for $65) which has an assortment of special rolls and torched sushi! (Not many sushi places have torched sushi in their platters but they do). Their fish is always fresh and flavourful and their torched sushi is always perfectly made. My favourite rolls in the platter are the aburi salmon and dynamite (def must trys). Overall, highly recommend as they serve huge and affordable platters ( like the 100 piece jumbo platter) with great sushi! The Rolls in the platter - California - salmon and avocado - yam - spicy salmon - dynamite - aburi salmon - green dragon - double spicy salmon - Philadelphia

I've been grabbing sushi for years from Aburiyaki Sushi, nestled on the second floor of World on Yonge's food court. Despite a slight uptick in prices, it's still the place I think of for sushi that's both delicious and easy on the wallet. 60 rolls for just about $50 - it's hard to beat that kind of value. Their torched technique adds a smoky flair to even the most basic sushi varieties, making every bite unexpectedly delightful. The rice is always perfectly seasoned, and they've nailed the ideal ratio of filling to rice, ensuring each roll is satisfyingly complete. This time around, I grabbed a quick bite - the unagi and avocado roll for $6.50. It's a little thing, but it's consistently great, a small joy in the middle of a hectic day. The cashier's cheerful demeanor and clear communication always make for a smooth experience. Sure, it's a food court, so ambiance takes a backseat, but the area is always clean and well-lit. And for days when I can't make it there, their UberEats is quick and reliable, with each order packed with care. Aburiyaki Sushi is perfect for a simple lunch or a sizable party tray. Good sushi at prices that don't break the bank!

After seeing this place being posted on IG for awhile, I had to try it! I ordered ahead and went to pick up a few minutes earlier than I had anticipated. Luckily, the platter was already ready. I bought the roll medium tray and it was good. Good size for the variety of sushi pieces and also worth the price, considering how many pieces it came with. The location is a bit out of the way for me but if I can go back, I'd for sure go if in the area.

My family and I shared the roll tray large (82 pieces) which came with california rolls, salmon and avocado roll, yam roll, spicy salmon roll, dynamite roll, aburi salmon roll, green dragon roll, double spicy salmon roll, and philadelphia roll. They also included 18 pieces of the chef's choice. It was all so delicious and filling. I believe they increased the price from $59 to $65 but still a pretty good deal compared to other sushi restaurants. Would totally return! They prepared the platter in 15 minutes.

This is a place in the upstairs food court at world on Yonge. Is it the best sushi u r ever gonna get? No. But for the value the quality and service it deserves 4.5 stars. We live close by and it's our usual go to when not a lot of other options are not available. It's not going to win any awards for its decor but it's at the food court. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

Full disclosure: On Aburiyaki Sushi's Instagram account, it was doing a tray giveaway. The business graciously offered two large, three medium, and five small sushi trays to ten people who shared their post and followed the account. I decided to enter. I tend to try and don't have much success. Well, that all changed when I found out that I had won a medium sushi tray. OMG! Last Saturday, I picked up my prize. I also bought a Diet Coke because I hadn't had one in a few weeks. And, no, there isn't an apocalypse. The business was great confirming my pickup time and date. It also let me know that it was on the second floor of Shops on Yonge, in the food court. I had no problem finding the food stall. For those who are short, you will love that Aburiyaki Sushi's order counter is lower than most places. I, however, was the Hunchback of Markham speaking to the nice woman. I had indicated that I was a bit early to pick up my party tray. Not a problem! It was ready. There is a tip jar on the counter and I made sure that I added my tip. I then carried my party tray with two hands, with my drink on top, and thanked her. She reciprocated and hoped that I'd enjoy their food. The medium tray has sixty pieces of sushi. I am not even going to ask how many pieces you get in a large tray because this one was massive! The medium tray had the following rolls: - California - Salmon - Avocado - Yam - Dynamite - Aburi salmon - Green dragon - Double spicy salmon - Chef's choice - aburi The place does put sauce on many of the rolls. I have a feeling that it was made perhaps an hour before I had arrived. By the time I got home and chowed down, the double spicy salmon had soggy salmon on top. It wasn't horrible, but I almost needed to eat the rolls at the food court to combat the sauce absorption. The sushi was yummy. Not exceptional. Not awful. It's decent in my books. I loved the variety. The green dragon, yam, and aruri (torched) salmon rolls were my favourite. The double avocado in the green dragon just melted in my mouth like butter. So good! With the torched rolls, this place torches them more on the well-done side than other sushi places. If you aren't into that level of doneness, you may not like the aburi sushi here. I enjoyed all aburi sushi that I downed. Prices are cheap for sushi trays. The ingredients are fresh and you get a bit of a discount if you pay with cash. This place offers sashimi, which has been more up my alley as of late. I consumed so much rice this day that I slept well after dinner. If there was an apocalypse happening, I didn't hear a thing. I was out cold thanks to my carb coma. It's a great sushi place. It's a family-run business with friendly family members. I'm so glad that I got to try their sushi, and am grateful for their kindness and generosity. (292)

60 pcs party tray (#11) for $36 plus 10% off if you pay with cash
    Vonny W.

Visited Aburi Sushi again because I was having family over so we sought the opportunity to try their party tray #12 which consists of 82 pcs consisting of california roll, salmon & avocado maki, yam roll, dynamite roll, aburi salmon maki, green dragon roll, D. spicy salmon roll, spicy salmon maki, Philadelphia roll, and chef's choice of aburi sushi for $49, with 10% off if you pay with cash. The tray was very heavy to hold! Like last time, sushi was fresh and tasty. You definitely get your money's worth! Service was much friendlier today, with plenty of "thank yous" which was nice!

    Chef's choice pressed sushi

I ordered takeout from this place and the food quality was generally above food court level but worse than usual sushi restaurants. They didn't charge less than sushi restaurants though, therefore I'm giving three stars on the value for money. I tried their chef's aburi sushi, the chef's choice pressed sushi and the California roll. They all had the same problems shared by many food court sushi places. The rice was really hard. I was not surprised to see that though. Every seared sushi plates had heavy smoky smell because the seared fish was overburnt a little bit. The flavour of the fish was generally okay, though lack of varieties for chef's choice. Half of the plates were salmon. The California roll tasted really hard, both inside and outside. So did the ebi. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are really in a hurry. The delivery speed was super fast.

This place is a hidden gem! Located inside the mall's food court, you'll find this amazing sushi store. When I found this restaurant on Yelp, I was drawn to the sushi platters and how you could get torched sushi/maki for a decent price. So of course, being my curious self, I decided to venture to this mall for some good ol' sushi. We ordered the small assorted maki platter and the torched scallop roll on the side. Boy oh boy am I impressed. The rice was done splendidly and was paired well with the contents. Whatever fish was paired, the torched parts gave a great flavour to the maki pieces. My favourite was none other than the torched scallop roll. It was well packed with two types of seafood. Salmon on the insides and scallops torched on the outside. This roll was $12 dollars and was well worth it. I will be returning! And I probably will try the larger platter next time.

We LOVE Aburiyaki. Aburi sushi aka torched sushi aka GAMECHANGER. The best bang for your buck sushi platters you can find in Toronto/GTA is here. Our only regret is not getting the 82pc platter for $55. It's located in the food court of Shops on Yonge. Lots of free parking outside and in the garage, there is a grocery store on the floor below.

I wasn't expecting the gold leaf OR edible flower garnish at all. It was a very cute touch on this very snowy day. The oshi sort of fell apart everytime I picked it up which was a shame because it was nicely charred and sweet from the mango. The moment you walk in, one detail that stood out to me was the Mahayana Buddhist altar blessing the owner and visitors with health and prosperity. As a Taiwanese person, that instantly felt relatable and oddly comforting--like being welcomed into someone's home. Although the restaurant is Vietnamese-owned, the Japanese food here is absolutely top-notch. I've visited three times so far, and the quality of their bento boxes has been impressively consistent every single time. My personal favorite is the chicken katsu bento. The chicken is incredibly fresh and flavorful. Unlike many places where chicken katsu can end up greasy or heavy, Ikigai's version is perfectly crispy and airy on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside. Paired with their tangy, addictive katsu sauce, every bite just makes you want the next one immediately. I'm also a big fan of their maki rolls and tempura. You can genuinely taste the care and quality in the food--even the side salad and miso soup feel thoughtfully prepared. Considering the quality, the prices are very reasonable, and the portions are generous. The bento box is around $20 if you pay cash, which feels like a great deal. The space itself is cozy, spotless, and welcoming, and the service has always been excellent. I genuinely love this place and will definitely keep coming back.

We also added a hamachi carpaccio just for more more protein for my SO because he thinks it might not be enough, but we were left super full. I love that the sushi wasn't loaded with rice and it was thinly included, we did mention that we usually don't like that much and the server said they can even adjust the rice content in the sushi.... We didn't confirm to adjust it but perhaps they went with it because rice is perfectly thin in the maki and less than usual for a nigiri, which is great because otherwise I don't know if we would have finished the meal. $5 to upgrade to brown rice for the sushi set that didn't have that much rice is still IMO a bit steep. Other that, the sushi is fresh, the special rolls are eye catching and tasty and the hamachi carpaccio was good too, LOVE the presentation. I think the best thing here is still their special rolls though! Server is so personable and made sure we were well taken care of. Only feedback I have here is the miso soup that with the Yorokobi set is way too salty I couldn't finish mine after a sip. Ambiance was clean with little Japanese decor throughout.
