I have stayed at AC twice now and each time I like it more and more! This hotel is pretty new still and still beautiful and well kept. Decor is modern and so comfortable. There is a nice bar downstairs that has delicious apps and drinks - Spanish flare. Rooms are so lovely - very minimal, industrial, and clean. Beds are super comfy, NO carpet!!!, each room has a mini fridge and microwave, nice big windows but also the most intense black out curtains I have seen. Bathroom is good size with large vanity and good lighting. Shower is great, too! I love that this hotel is right downtown GR and within walking distance to pretty much anything DT. They do not have parking, however, the ramp across the street is reasonable for an overnight. Love this hotel for girls nights, staycation, etc. read more

Awful, really. Rooms are small. Very small. Tiny bathrooms with sliding door, privacy lacking. Sink literally in the middle of the room. No closet. Poor HVAC function. Either too hot or too cold. Staff is not trained well at all, kind of hostile and/or clueless. Breakfast buffet... equally bad. What little food was out was low quality. You should expect more for $19. Espresso machine broken. Parking is blocks away and expensive. An epic fail. Don't stay here. read more

My wife and I stayed here for the weekend while in town for a wedding. Centrally located in the heard of Grand Rapids, you couldn't ask for a better location. The hotel has a classic, yet contemporary look. The lobby has some nice seating areas and a bar (they have a DJ on the weekends too, which is kind of unique...similar to Mariott's Moxy hotels). Our room was exactly what was expected. The extremely high ceiling was a surprise (my guess is 14 feet) and wasn't expected. I'm thinking the building was a warehouse or something industrial at one time. read more

Family vacation 2021...bringing the California variant of COVID-19 to your city. The AC Hotel Grand Rapids was a surprise stay for us. We had no intentions of staying in Grand Rapids. Our original plan was to drive from Detroit to Milwaukee with a stop in Holland on the same day. A 7 hour drive. Instead, we decided a last minute change was needed and cut the drive times in half. This AC Hotel is located in Downtown Grand Rapids. Without staying here, I never would've know how trendy a place Grand Rapids was. Check in was quick and easy. This was the first hotel that we stayed at that sealed the doors after housekeeping cleaned the room. We were given a nice room overlooking the parking lot with a downtown view. The beds were comfortable. It was also the first hotel on our road trip that had soap, shampoo, and a conditioner dispenser in the shower as part of Marriott's program to reduce the use of plastic containers. It was a "fancy" brand that I never heard of. Breakfast was not provided for Platinum and above Bonvoy members. This hotel closed it per Michigan's COVID guidelines...the same guidelines that allowed the Marriott in Detroit to serve us breakfast. We were given points in lieu of breakfast. They have a parking lot out front. You have to wave or honk at the front desk clerk so that they can open the parking lot gate for you. It was an okay stay. Grand Rapids is a very nice area to visit. I'd give them 4 stars if they had provided more than just points for breakfast. I'd love to come back when COVID is over and everything is back to normal. read more

We generally stay at JW MARRIOTT just across the way...this time we didn't want to lay down that kind of money ..so we're at AC Hotel...we weren't sure what we'd be walking into...Abbey at the front desk started out nice and friendly..briefing us on the parking available in the area..she let us keep our Jeep in front while we went up to room 712...it's one of the weirdest rooms I've ever seen...a camouflaged door is the length of the wall..very heavy to open..strange SQUARE toilet...ONE hook...outside of bathroom sits a sink without a back to it..so be careful your items don't fall and break..I do like drawers but couldn't find right away..of course..they're under the refrigerator (not in the area where it seems to make sense)...like where the bed and tv are located..or even perhaps next to or beneath bed stands ...the floor is a manufactured laminate/vinyl so don't walk in too far with wet shoes...Abbey (no name tag so maybe spelling wrong) described the room (s) as European..not quite sure what that meant...we will back our bet and stay and pay for now..but..NO WAY would we return read more

Overall nice AC, great location, but very LOUD. Check-in: Although I'm Titanium Elite and requested a 3:00 pm check-in, I wasn't be to check in until nearly 4:00 because of room availability. Front desk staff was overwhelmed. Said they'd call my cell when the room was ready, but they didn't. Suite night upgrade resulted in a rather bland upgraded room. Room: Seemed like a standard AC room but with a couch added. All standard amenities including little refrigerator, micro coffee maker, etc. Bathroom: Ample counter space. Shower only. Lighting could be better. Bed: Decent king bed, not great, but not bad. Housekeeping: no room housekeeping during our two night stay. Sleep quality/noise: This is where the AC takes a big hit. Street noise is horrible, even on the 5th floor. Interior hotel noise is higher than normal but not extreme. But street noise is so bad that we woke up several times each night. Gym: tiny gym on the ground floor. Staff: Front desk staff saved us. For some reason Uber doesn't operate in the early morning. We had a super-early flight and no Ubers were available. We called the front desk in a panic and a really nice lady (trying to recall her name, perhaps Janet or Jeannie) got us a taxi. Tips: Don't waste a suite night upgrade here. Also, I'm very disappointed in Marriott's suite night upgrade availability in general. It's turning out to be a scam because only the most mediocre properties honor the upgrade requests. read more

This hotel is an absolute disgrace. My husband tried to book a reservation but never received any confirmation--no number, no email, nothing. Unsure if the booking went through, he reserved a room at another hotel instead. A few days later, we were shocked to find that the AC Hotel charged his card without any communication or confirmation. When we called to address the issue, we were treated with outright rudeness. Staff were dismissive and even hung up on us just for asking to speak with a manager. After several attempts to resolve this over email, we were told they "don't send emails to anyone," which is complete and utter BS. This is one of the worst customer service experiences we've ever had. This hotel has no respect for its guests and clearly doesn't care about doing the right thing. Avoid this place at all costs--they don't deserve your business. read more

I treated myself to a wknd getaway at AC and OMG what an AMAZING experience ! The ladies at the service desk were friendly, professional and very helpful. I absolutely LOVED my room and the hotel in general. Everything was elegant, clean and inviting. The food was PHENOMENAL (Chef's kiss). The DJ was great and the crowd friendly. I had so much fun. The AC Hotel is in great location downtown. The hotel shares it parking with the JW Marriott around the corner. The price of the AC Hotel was less than the JW Marriott while we were vacationing during Art Prize week. This hotel allows pets and I saw a great deal of guests with their pets. Some with multiple dogs in their rooms. I am allergic to animals and did not check on the pet policy before booking this hotel. Thankfully this hotel does not have a great deal of carpeting which helps with allergies. The corridors and lobby bothered my allergies. My room as I approached the door, my allergies got worse. As long as I stayed away from the hallways I was okay. I am so grateful, I only had 1 night at this hotel. Front staff: with Art Prize the employees were being worked, they were all super friendly and maintained their cool as many guests were checking in. Some guests were not as polite with the front staff, but the front staff kept their cool. Great staff! Room: typical AC room, but slightly larger. I love the minimal modern look of AC hotels. We had a nice sitting area off the side of the bed. Bathroom: nice clean bathroom. Lighting so so for applying makeup, you had to stand just right not to get shadows on the face. Shower had built in shampoo, conditioner, and body wash pumps. The water pressure was good. Bed: the pillows are nice, but the bed is so uncomfortable and I did not get a good night rest, again only 1 night Gym: there is a gym onsite, but it is super tiny. Restaurant: on-site but closed during COVID. We were high up, but you can hear the street noise from Art prize. read more

The location is great for downtown activity's. It's clean and visually appealing. Please be aware, the self serve coffee station in the lobby is not complimentary. After we made our own coffees, we were given a bill. The other complaints are related to noise. The street becomes a drag strip and the bar in the hotel. It becomes a nightclub with a DJ after 9pm. Our room was so loud, so late. I do not recommend staying here if you do not plan on indulging in the late nightlife. I won't be staying here again. read more

AC is a decent spot in downtown Grand Rapids that is much more affordable than some nearby places. If you're looking for some comfort in a modern atmosphere, it's fine. I found the room small and having the sink and mirror in the kitchenette made it feel cramped. Overall clean and quiet at night, which are two good attributes. read more

My and my girlfriend came to GR to take a downtown beer tour, and decided to try out the new AC Hotel downtown. I'm thoroughly impressed with the amenities in the room, especially the bathroom. But the real draw is the great building that houses the hotel, and the awesome lobby/bar. Not to mention that the proximity to spots like The B.O.B., GRBC, and Founders. Also, the staff has been fantastic. Definitely try this hotel if you're staying downtown! read more

I'm torn with 3 or 4 stars. Brand new hotel, right downtown with an experience you expect from a Marriott property. However, my two areas of concern are the process of parking. You have to check in or get their attention to get the gate opened. Also, the other area of concern is minimal options for food/breakfast, small cups for coffee. Could be Pandemic related? If in town for business and you need just a place to spend the night, this is it. But if you need coffee and breakfast, and less hassle parking, consider the other Marriott hotels in the area. read more

Stopped in here at the bar for a few drinks with a friend. It was a Tuesday night so it was relatively slow. The bar/lounge area is beautiful and modern. It was nice weather so the entire area was open to the outdoors, which gave it a really cool feel. The bar menu was small, but good. The drinks we had were tasty and were served by very friendly bartenders. Each drink was around $12 so it wasn't inexpensive, but worth the money for the flavor and atmosphere. We made the mistake of staying at the Courtyard Marriott across the street instead of the AC (don't be like us) but we went to the AC to enjoy their bar since the one at the Courtyard was closed. Matty and Anna were working the bar and were so incredibly friendly, fun and kind!! We went during their Happy Hour and got a great discount on all of the cocktails we tried which were all phenomenal and had a beautiful presentation. We then came back after dinner to enjoy a night cap. It was my dad's 60th birthday and he kept talking about the sliced prosciutto machine the AC has for their European style breakfast. Matty went and carved some prosciutto and brought that and manchego as a little surprise birthday treat for my dad. It made his night and was beyond kind! Bravo AC! The staff was snotty and rude when I checked in. We called ahead to verify the parking and were provided inaccurate information that contradicted what I was told at check in. I was "upgraded" to a double queen room after booking a king room. I'm a gold level Marriott rewards member and was staying alone, so it was a down grade. The bar was closed due to "staffing issues," but again I called and spoke to a receptionist who assured me that the hotel was fully operating. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Amway Grand or JW Marriott. The AC has yet to work our their kinks, the service is lackluster, the rooms are small and clearly the staff is too frustrated to treat guests kindly. read more

I stayed at the AC Hotel at the beginning of November. The rooms provide safes to keep her personal belongings protected. Unfortunately, I left some valuable jewelry in the safe during my stay. When I realized I had left it, I immediately called. I was connected to security and they informed me that they recovered the jewelry and asked how I would like it returned. I filled out the appropriate form and asked for a significant amount of insurance for the shipment. However, I was informed that I could only take out $1000 policy. When the fedex box arrived I was missing two of the most valuable pieces. I immediately called the hotel and was again connected to security. The woman I spoke to got extremely defensive and stated that the jewelry was there when they sent it. Unsatisfied I spoke with the general manager. She put me in touch with the general manager of the security company. He sent me the pictures of when the jewelry was taken out of the safe and the two pieces were in the photos. After some communication with him, he is blaming FedEx for taking my jewelry. However, the box that came was not tampered with and the contents were very well contained. I am almost positive someone from the hotel's security stole my jewelry. I have contacted the police. I now have tried a few times in speaking with the general manager of the hotel with no call backs. It is pretty sad that Marriott has hired such an unethical security team. Someone needs to be accountable for my missing jewelry. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. If this has happened to me it could happen to you. What is the point of having safe boxes if your belongings can't even be considered safe. read more

It's very clean, however we were assigned a handicap accessible room without being asked if it was acceptable to us. The room has much of the available space dedicated to providing room to enter and exit. That is certainly understandable if needed, but there is no closet, no dresser, and only one chair. Shower is very awkward. Overall, this room configuration seems inferior to their standard rooms. We feel this should have been explained to us with the option to choose a standard room at the time of check in. read more

The room was very high priced considering it's amenities. The insulation in the walls is horrible, heard outside noise for hrs after going to bed. Heard our neighbors in the other rooms, taking showers etc. front desk could've been friendlier when calling for services to clean our window because forehead prints were on it from the last customers. The beds and pillows are very uncomfortable, got a horrible nights sleep. The bar menu is a lot to be desired although the bartenders were friendly. The style of decor was awesome! read more

I'll start with the good. I was impressed by the vibe and aesthetic of the hotel. The bar area was beautiful, equipped with large windows that open up to the city. The breakfast area was also pretty stunning. Modern, clean, and luxurious. Our room was great: very cool layout, luxurious feeling, rain showerhead and detachable showerhead. The valet guys held the door and were kind. Now for the bad. The reason for only two stars is that the description of the room said "city view." The "city view" was a third-floor view of a parking garage... It was nothing to look at. At night, a street lamp hung right outside of our window and lit everything in the room in a harsh, pumpkin orange color. We shut our blinds when we went to sleep. So much for the romantic idea of a "city view" hotel. The hotel does not offer room service which was too bad. We were hoping to order breakfast to our room. Also, the hotel doesn't have their hours for the bar or breakfast posted on their website. A little handout with general information in each room would be helpful. Of course you can call the front desk, that's what we did. Grand Rapids has comparable hotel options in the same price range that have beautiful views of the city and of the river. Nice hotel but didn't have what others in the area do. Had my room been on the side of the hotel facing Rosa parks, my review would jump up a couple of stars. Our first time at an AC Hotel By Marriott. We were greeted by very friendly staff. Our room was very clean, however, the noise from the street was very loud all night. There does not seen to be any structural sound barriers installed in the room. Our room was on the fifth floor and we could hear people talking on the strret below. Between the traffic and loud people coming and going all night in the hallway, we were not able to sleep. The room fan made a loud clanking noise all night. We will not be back or ever stay at any AC hotel again. If you decide to try it out, bring earplugs. This was our worst experience ever. read more

Not sure why there are some bad reviews here. I travel to Grand Rapids all the time for work and have stayed at this hotel at least 6 times since its opened (I previously stayed at the Courtyard or JW Marriott). The rooms are nice, new, and clean. The bar is great. And the staff is amazing. Shout out to the Valet guys who are the best! Always quick, and always very polite and helpful. If only the JW across the street had the same service! read more
