The photos in Academy Sports that accompany my review showcase the fact that Springfield is clearly part of #chiefskingdom. I personally am not a fan but related to and friends with fans and this is an excellent place to come and get your gear to rep your team. For the Outdoors portion of their name they aren't playing around. Campers and fishermen will find so much stuff. Also, for those of us with children or grandchildren in sports I trust the brands here for performance and durability over some certain cheap big box stores. read more

I've done business with Academy Sports for 20+ yrs, two kids through every sport imaginable, never returned a single item. On April 16th purchased a pair of 505 Levis, took home and washed, when I took out of the dryer noticed a belt loop was unattached at the top. Jeans were never worn, on the 19th, took back to exchange, kids working said since been washed I couldn't return, I understand policies, this was a defective product. That's my rant, looks like will be buying from Amazon in the future read more

No reason to have to wait 1/2 hour to check out. Would rather have self service than to stand that long in line.

The selection is fair but nothing to get excited about. I guess the prices are okay but once again no huge bargains. What impressed me most was the lack of people around to try to help you and the dirt. It would be helpful if someone cleaned up around there. Absolutely absent customer service. I have ordered in the last week a pair of shoes on sale through the app that were in stock at the store, or available for shipping. Both orders were canceled by the store because the shoes were not in stock. I've been refunded for one pair but not the other. Called the store 5 times to ask about this and was hung up on every time I selected the shoe dept or operator to talk to. Never could get through. And, the store is a wreck visually when you go in... and try to find someone to help you. That is an accomplishment if it happens read more

Very "unkept" store. The ladies' bathroom had one stall with toilet paper and stalls with poop in them. Trash all over the floor. Asked a manager to see if they could get someone to help with the paper. He told a worker and she just nodded at him. When another worker walked by she asked him if he would like to take care of the bathroom. He said, "The ladies?" Then he said, "No" then walked away with them both smiling. So sad. read more

We needed a girls basketball and no hassle so Academy was a MUST! I am not a fan of chaos on a Saturday and I knew Academy would be our best bet for success. Academy has a great sports selection and reasonable prices. We found the best ball - purple and Kyrie Irving to match some shoes we have - perfect ! We saw amazing clearance items, clothes- specialty items and also general sport items too. The parking lot is nice and big and the staff was efficient and friendly. read more

You can find most of what you need here, just think Walmart for sporting goods. The staff isn't helpful at all, and in most cases will avoid you if at all possible. But all in all they have what you need for sports, and gym equipment. They also have a decent selection of cycling apparel, and they keep a rang of sizes in stock. If you're looking for any sporting goods from kayaking to school football. I suggest you stop here first; especially if you want to buy something a little less expensive. read more

Reminds me a lot of Dick's Sporting Goods. Where I'm from we don't have Academy but they bring the same energy. As an athlete myself I shop there to buy equipment for my training & kickboxing classes. They sprinkle that razzle dazzle on ya soon as you step in the spot. All you would ever need is there. There gun staff are jokes! Had a scope mounded and sighted in, the employee that did it took forever! While he was doing it was telling me how good he is at it and how he's been doing this for so long, and telling me all these gun maintenance and hunting tips, when I got home my sight wasn't on my gun!! He literally set the scope on top of the gun and started sighting before he tightened it!! Absolute joke. Will not be coming here for my gun needs!! read more

They seemed to be a little more affordable than Bass Pro. However, they don't have the scenery, so there is a price for that experience.

Academy definitely doesn't have the excellence you'd expect or associate with such a store name. The selection is so-so, and the staff is severely lacking. They've got tons of associates but no one who is willing to help. We were there today to buy some boots for my husband, and as we were trying on boot after boot, and searching for an associate to ask about prices since some of the tags were mismatched and not correct we had 4 pass us by and just ignore us. They ignored many other customers. And not even a smile. I assume that if you are going to pass us by you could at least look like you want to be there, as it is what you get paid to do. I do understand working in retail/sales can be exhausting and frustrating at times as I've worked in it before and I try not to judge as I don't know what's happening in others personal lives. But when 4 plus people do the same thing, I just know it's the attitude of the store, and that attitude is not up to "academy" style standards. Once we finally picked out a pair of boots, we went to the cash register where we waited for the cashier to spend 10 minutes talking to another associate and giggling, so I"m assuming it was nothing of importance. Once she turned around to ring us up, we got no hello, no greeting or conversation of any kind. The price rang up, and she just pointed at the keypad to enter in the pin. I'm very pleased with the boots we got, but I"m very unhappy with the service and won't be going back for that reason. read more

I've been here a few times. No matter how many staff people you pass no one acknowledges you. It seems that when they see you might have a question they walk away. Two of the times I was looking at high ticket items so I simply just don't think they care about their customers. The only saving grace is that their selection is plentiful and they have good prices on some items. Most of the time I would encourage you to look at Amazon on items like treadmills or pools. Most of the time you can get free shipping on larger items. At academy its usually more expensive and you have to pay delivery fees. read more

Pretty nice sporting goods store. We don't have Academy Sports where I'm from. I personally like Dicks Sporting Goods better. This store does have a good selection though. A lot of items but understaffed. I was pretty disappointed with the golf section. 3:00 and not a single person there to help me? Really? That's pretty lousy. The prices are very high. The store itself is nice and new and pretty clean from what I could see. Overall ok sporting goods store. The golf section really impacted this review. read more

This place is a joke. My husband couldn't get the air gun pellets he wanted in the store so he ordered them online. Today his order was delivered and it was disaster in a box. One package of 500 pellets was almost completely spilled in the box. 4 of the 6 boxes were compromised and leaking more pellets. It was the poorest job of shipping anything I've ordered. I tried to review the order and Academy denied posting it because it didn't meet their guidelines--also known as not giving them a positive review. I went to buy a handgun, but the only salesclerk was doing a good job of ignoring customers. I was in need of a new fishing reel also, but the fishing tackle department had so many empty shelves and items out-of-stock, it looked like a K-mart store and was a waste of time. This fishing tackle department had the look of a dying store. The only thumbs up for this visit was for their ammo, which is MUCH cheaper than their competitors at BPS. read more

I called 14 times (cell phone actual) I tried to get a hold of the fishing and hunting desk by directory 8 times. I let it ring several times and actually timed one time 3 minutes 18 seconds and no one picked up. Three times it was picked up and hung up on. Call the front desk 6 times and 2 times I was hung up on and 4 others no answer. Needles to say I called another outdoor store got answer in less than 5 minutes, I went there to buy what I needed and then some. read more

Just purchased a shotgun for our daughter for home protection. The salesman was a former police officer and knew all the right questions to ask her. When we left the gun she purchased was a perfect fit for her and she felt very comfortable since it was her first time purchasing a firearm.I have never had service this good from a large chain store way to go. read more

I bought a gun here that was seriously defective. I asked politely and firmly several times for them to allow me to return it, or even exchange for something else. They refused. They DO NOT accept returns on guns. So understand this before buying here: as soon as you ring out, the gun is yours no matter what. This is not a full gun store, in that they have no one on staff that can provide any type of gunsmithing or services at all. I will never buy a gun here again - if I want a discounted price with no services I can get better pricing over the internet from sites like gunbroker.com. This place is an unhappy compromise: half the selection of a regular gun store, retail prices, and no service at all. I have seen some negative reviews on firearm purchases. I have purchased several firearms and wastold up front that they have a no return or exchange policy. I was also informed that if I had a problem to bring the firearm back & they would send it to the manufacturer for repair or .replacement. read more

I ordered a gift card for my son for Christmas. I ordered it on December 18, 2016. It was promised to be delivered in 3 to 5 business days, so that meant it should be delivered by December 23, 2016. On December 23 I checked online to see where it was and discovered it hadn't even been picked up by fed ex until Wed the 21st of Dec and it was not going to be delivered until December 27th. I then contacted Academy via a chat connection and was told that they couldn't control the delivery and for me to contact Fed Ex. I explained to them that I didn't send it and couldn't get Fed Ex to change the delivery date only they could as they paid for the delivery etc. The chat line said the only thing they could do was give me a 10% coupon for my inconvenience. I told them to contact Fed Ex and get the item delivered by the 24th and also send me a coupon for 20% off. They sent me the 20% coupon that could only be used online and not in the store which is not going to do my son any good and then disconnected the chat line without allowing me to respond. The gift card was not delivered until the night of the 28th of December. I have written two complaints online to the company and was promised via their website that I would hear back within 24 to 48 hours. This has not happened. I would not recommend this company at all. Very poor customer service and do not provide what is promised. read more
