I took two weeks of classes at the B2 level. The learning environment is excellent - competent instructors, students from all over the world, and the students in my classes were all about my level. I had two instructors, Jacqueline and Agnes, and both were very good. Jacqueline is more dynamic, Agnes more reserved, but both are outstanding. I am retired, but there were students of all ages. I doubt there are markedly better schools and the quartier is hard to beat - I walked across the Champs de mars every day to class. read more

I attended Accord during the Fall of 2006. It was an amazing experience! I moved to Paris by myself just to learn French and Accord was perfect for what I needed. They have several different levels you can choose from. If you want to take a less intensive course of 20 hours a week you can do that or you can take the intensive course closer to 40 hours a week. They also have courses for business professionals as well. It is full immersion...no English allowed! They teach by living it, you are learning by songs, poems, acting out skits, they give you different worksheets for homework and lots of talking in the class. You have no choice but to learn French. On top of that you live there so you are able to use the language in your everyday life. I went from VERY beginner to intermediate in just a few months. The other nice thing is that you change teachers every week, and you change classes according to your speaking level...if you need some more work you stay in the class, if they think you can move on they change your class. They can help set you up with a family to live with or you can just find an apartment like I did. There is also a metro station right next to the school so it is easy to get to...along with that the area has tons of shopping and small cafe's all around it. The pizza place next door is amazing!!! I met so many cool people here that I still keep in touch with and have met up with since leaving the school. They have students come in from all over the world so you meet an awesome group of people. If you want to take a French immersion class this is really the place to do it! Great "boutique" French language school located nearby the Eiffel Tower and the Champs de Mars. Wide choice of French courses for all levels. I recommend the intensive morning course of 20 hours/week but if you prefer a cheaper course (but of the same quality) I recommend the afternoon PM1 course (15h/week) and the PM2 course (20h/week). The structure of the PM2 course is really great, with two afternoons dedicated to oral French and three afternoon classes dedicated to written French and grammar. Then, from 17:00 to 18:00 you get one hour coaching/tutorial. It's the best French language course I had in France. read more

Deciding it was time for a major change in my life, I chopped my hair off, packed my bags and jetted to Paris for 8 weeks. Going alone without a plan (except to go to class), I was pleased and excited with the arrangements made through Accord. Through their website (http://www.french-paris.com/ OR http://www.accord-langues.com/ it's the same thing) I was able to arrange a car to pick me up at the airport and take me to my house at La Cité internationale Universitaire de Paris (http://www.ciup.fr/en/). I stayed at La Fondation Hellenique in a single room. The bathroom is shared by the floor (basically it's a college dorm with a communal kitchen and washing machines). The proximity to the metro AND the tram (for those hungover/lazy days) was also pretty awesome! Tram being right outside my door and the metro 2 blocks away. _______________________ WARNING: If you do decide to stay at the Cite-U, make sure NOT to arrive on a Sunday or past 17:00h Monday-Saturday because you will be locked out (you have to be given the key by your individual house's receptionist). Make sure once you know which house you will be staying in, to CALL the house and ask them their hours and inform them of your arrival! ________________________ Moving on, My fear of being the anti-social American loner rejected by the French was gone by my 2nd day in Paris! At school during orientation I met students from all ages and all over the world! Coincidently I sat at a table with 3 other students (Evelyn-a German girl who became one of my best friends, a German guy, and a Dutch woman-We all still keep in touch) who lived in my building. YOU'RE IMMEDIATELY THROWN INTO A CLASS after taking the written and oral exam and placed into your appropriate level. With analyzing newspapers, once a week theater classes where you're asked to participate in skits, creating cartoons, and lets not forget tag-team conjugation exercises, the four hour long class flashes by. What also helped is that my professor, Nicholas, did not speak english so he would explain things to me in French-which helped me improve significantly. In 8 weeks I went up a level from A2-B1, mostly because I was partying with the Parisian friends I made through Evelyn, Sitting on the quad socializing with my newfound Greek/Brazilian/Romanian/Tunisian bros from my designated house, and getting lost in Pere-Lachaise. On average, most people I know jumped up 2 levels in the 8 weeks. By week 3 I was thinking in French! The requirement to participate in the class discussions helped me want to interact with the Parisians more and to absorb as much as possible. So, on my 7 hour flight back to New York as I was sobbing and watching 'Midnight In Paris', the one thought to pop into my mind was: "Damn, I wish this movie was in French". read more

I studied at Accord for one week recently. I wish I had more time to spend at the school. I really enjoyed the classes. I was level 2A. The classes were engaging. I had a couple of teachers, but mainly Bruno who is a very engaging, encouraging and pleasant teacher. All the teachers were great. the reason I chose Accord over other languages was that they were very responsive from the first contact I had with them and continued to be very helpful and honest in their answers. I wasn't sure whether I would fit in to the regular level of classes as I'm a little older or to take the over 50s classes. However, I am well travelled a lot and didn't want to be babysat either. They advised me to take the regular classes and that they would be mixed...average age late 29s to early 30s, but younger and older as well. I liked all of my classmates very much. It was a good international group. The school really understood where I would fit well. I hope to return to the school sometime in the next couple of years and take more classes with them. read more

Great school! The administration is organized, warm, welcoming and seems very interested and concerned in your success as a student of French. I took one week of classes with a pretty good teacher. I wasn't a huge fan of her teaching method, but my four classmates loved her and I appreciated that she was a good teacher, but that I just didn't jive with her style/method. Usually, I think a teacher is either good or bad, no gray area. Here, it was. The method at the school overall is Alliance Française-ish, which is not my jam. The focus was not on speaking, but instead on reading and writing. However, ACCORD does a much, much, much better job of making students more comfortable and happy than the Alliance Française and the location is more central. One day a week during intensive courses is theater exercises, which was absolutely amazing and the teacher who came in for that day was sensationally good. I'm such a fan of the school overall and I'd definitely go back if I ever want to work on the non-conversational side of things. read more

[Honest review that I wish I got before entering this school] The teachers here are really nice and helpful. But I'm sure you could also find many many other places that offers better experience. I registered online because I live in the U.S. Everything about this school is kinda a scam. They marked up every single price and it would be difficult for a non-European to realize how scamed they got until they actually arrive. I also registered for a homestay which is the cheapest option for housing. However they overcharged me for so many things yet failed to fufill some requests I had previously. A lot of the friends I met here were also in the same situation (requested a non-smoking family, no pet etc yet they were put in the opposites). The money to rent for a month for a single room with breakfast and access to the kitchen is around €1500, while you could've easily looked on other websites or even airbnb for a separate apartment for €700 a month, which is half of the price. It's very difficult to request a change with the school also because they would double charge you for unreasonable fees such as a fee for an agency (an extra of €80) whom they work with to find a house for you (this person should've done their only job and found the right family from the beginning). In general, I'm really upset about my experience because both of the homestays I was in suck and treated me horribly because they were extremely stingy. Please don't be hesitant to spend 15-30 more minutes online to look for other school/ housing if you have never been to Europe or had none experience in europe and you feel like it'd be too complicated. I promise that choosing this school's housing is the worst mistake I've ever made in my life and decided to write this essay-review... Honestly the teachers are lovely and I like them very much! You can register for school here and look for housing in other places because I guarantee you they wouldn't pay the whole amount of money you pay to the host family and some of their families really suck since they don't usually update their details/changes. I spent a week at Accord, Paris, earlier in the year, which was not enough. I am now booking another two weeks because they did exactly what I wanted. They concentrated on spoken French, my weak point, with supplementary grammar where necessary. No English in class so its sink or swim, daunting at first but definitely the right way forward. In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed my week at Accord. I found everybody there friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. read more

The teachers were friendly, patient and motivating. This school is good if you are staying there for a short time and not a couple of months, like I did. I visited the school for 4 month, started at level A2 and ended with B2. You practice speaking the most which is good if you are starting at a lower level. The teachers were great with helping overcome your fear of making mistakes. However, if you are thinking of practicing your writing, grammar, formal expression or preparing for the DELF test, I wouldn't recommend Accord as the main objective is speaking. Also the classes change every few weeks with new teachers which might be difficult as you have to adapt to a complete different teaching style every time . Finally, do not trust the school with finding a good an accommodation worth your money!! The school makes a huge profit by finding you a flat, a hostel or other type of accomadation (quite a rip off). Therefore, I suggest that you search for one on your own (by doing so you save a lot of money!), there are a lot of sites online! read more

I've had a very mixed experience at Accord (which I attended for a week in September and another week in April). On my first day I had the worst teacher I've ever run into (and I've been teaching and taking classes in other languages for many years): Agnes, who set ridiculous exercises, lost her patience with students immediately, and then retreated into reading a magazine while we did grammar drills. I voluntarily dropped down a level to get away from her, and ended up with the best language teacher I've ever met, Nicholas, who is patient, clear, well-organized, and supportive, not to mention an incredibly nice person. I'd have happily continued taking his class were it not for a different factor: Accord skews very young in its student population (I'm not ancient, but I'm certainly over the age of the general populace), and there are correspondingly unpredictable levels of dedication and focus, which can be a problem if you're a serious language-learner paying for classes out of your own pocket and aware that you have a limited time to learn. This of course varies: in my first week my group was largely made up of very friendly and focused 20-something year-old students, most of whom were starting a year in France or tuning up their French before starting new years or jobs in their home countries, and it was a great group. In April I had the bad luck to coincide with a large group of Russian students in their mid-teens, who were spread throughout the sections, and who spent most of their time texting and mocking other students. It made for a chilling atmosphere, and by the last day no-one in my group was speaking, which is obviously not ideal for a language class... It's not usual for language schools to be overrun by teenagers in a group, and if they're going to accept these kinds of groups, they need to be aware of potential effects on other students who are after all paying for classes. For that reason I wouldn't recommend Accord for students who want a serious short-term immersion in French, definitely not for students over a certain age, who will be much better served at a school like Lutece Langue, which seems to draw a broader range of ages. read more

I would not recommend this camp/program for juniors.....lousy experience. After months of careful planning and many email exchanges with the school confirming all forms, airport transfers , and other details were in place , Accord somehow could not locate any of my daughters paperwork after a long trans-Atlantic flight. They had my 14 yr. old calling home to tell us her health forms, insurancce cards, flight details were all missing. After three calls and two emails resending all the files that had been confirmed received six weeks prior to camp and again three days prior to camp , Accord finally confirmed they had everything . My daughter was extremely upset as no one spoke English well enough to explain to her what was happening. The week seemd to get back on track until Tuesday when I received another email asking to accept their apologies but they still did not have her return flight information. I re-sent for the 4th and 5th time in multiple formats, attachment, email with details etc. Again, I received a confirmation stating they now had everything they needed.....until 12 hours before her flight when my daughter phoned from Paris to tell me they didnt have her record locator information and couldn't find her flight . The degree of disorganization for the Juniors camp is beyond belief. How they can be certified to run this program is difficult to understand? What should have been an exciting adventure turned out to be a very stressful event with very limited language learning provided in large classes with little attention paid to level of French competency. Thanks goodness she met some nice kids from all over the world....not all was lost! read more
