I called several accountants, and William responded to me quickest. When I explained my situation he said he'd be happy to do them but humbly stated he may be more expensive than others and encouraged me to call around. I had a good feeling by talking to him, but called a couple of places anyway just to feel them out. Others came in a bit cheaper but seemed sleepy or as if they were reading from a script. Ultimately I followed my hunch which was that William would do a more personal job. I'm glad I followed my instinct. Working with William was great. I related to him on a personal level and we spent a fair amount chit-chatting about our personal lives and places we've lived. While we were chit-chatting he was still wearing his accounting hat and would say "I think we could deduct that". He also ended up taking the time to run my numbers using different methods to find the best method of saving. Though I paid a hundred bucks or so more for William compared to the next best service, I'm sure I saved much more than that by choosing to go to him, simply because he listened with a real ear rather than just punching things into a computer or following some policy. There are times when it is impossible to do your own taxes even if you are using Turbo tax…read more Situations arise when you are at a loss over how do to them correctly. For example, inheritance tax has always proved a nightmare for me. Also, if you have a spouse working in another state you may not be familiar with that state's tax laws or whether or not it is a reciprocal state. The accounting firm of Myers, Moidel and Taylor have helped me tremendously over the years. At the beginning of each tax year I receive a tax planning packet in the mail. It gives me an opportunity to write in all income, interest, deductions, and changes, etc to help me when I make my apt to meet with them. I have worked with Gary Moidel for the past 6 years now. The office moved to Fox Chapel a little over two years ago and is in a nicer location than previous. During my conference he reviews all the tax laws, what's changed in the tax year, and projects out what I can expect in the coming year. If there are issues that need resolved before filing the taxes he will inform me of what is needed to get them done correctly. The office will file your Federal, State, and local (if applicable) for you on line. Perhaps the biggest help they have been to me was filing the final return for my late mother. He also helped me file estate taxes. When his work is complete I normally get an email where I can sign for electronic filing and then I will get an email indicating that my returns were accepted by the various agencies. If I end up owing or having to pay estimates then he will attach the appropriate vouchers needed for me to send them to. I will say that these services can be costly but it is worth every penny to me to know that they are done accurately and correctly. They currently have extended and Sat hours during the tax season but will resume the normal hours when tax season is over. They are an accounting firm so they have other services which they can offer such as bookkeeping, debt, and financial counseling.
