I swore to myself I would never post on here, but after the experience I've had I think everybody needs to know what kind of company this is.
Like many people this year, the weather hit us pretty hard. The hail storm in February took out our roof and we needed to get it replaced. So we chose to use Accurate Roof Systems.
We wanted to wait till after the hurricane season ended, just in case there was more damage. So we called them up and started our claim at the end of April. They came out, did an inspection and said we need a new roof. Pretty standard stuff. But they also told me the sheathing on our roof wasn't thick enough and that our insurance policy included "code compliance".
Now I'm not a roofer, so basically the way they led me to understand it was that our insurance company had to pay for the upgrade in the sheathing so that we would meet the current building code. No biggie, let's sign the contract and put 50% down because that's there standard procedure. They file the roof claim, the roof gets approved but the sheathing doesn't.
We work on the approval for a little while, insurance isn't budging but they said if the sheathing is damage when the shingles come off they will cover it.
We don't hear from Accurate for almost a month. Finally, we hear that our roof is scheduled to be installed on 6/7/24. That day comes and goes, no contact from Accurate. We give it 2 weeks then ask again, when is our roof going to be done? Now they say that the need a waiver signed stating they aren't liable for the inspection if it doesn't pass.
I'm not comfortable with that, but ask them to send it to me on 6/27. We don't receive the waiver until I called the owner of the company on 8/5. She sends it to me and it basically says they aren't responsible if the roof doesn't meet code. We feel like at this point we have no other options, so we sign the waiver.
Fast forward to last week. At that time, they still haven't given us a day that they are coming out to do the roof. So my wife, brings another contractor over to do an inspection. Within 5 minutes he says that our sheathing is actually double stacked across the whole house and that not only do we meet the code, we exceed it.
I then contact Accurate Roof Systems and request to cancel our contract and refund our deposit. Remember, at this point no actual work has been done to my house. Their owner says they aren't going to let me out and basically says they are going to do the roof or I could go my own way and lose the $11,500 deposit that I gave them. At that time I sent them formal notice that we rescinded our waiver authorization.
After back and forth, we finally get a response that says they will review everything and get me a decision by 8/28 (Today).
At 5:02 pm I get an email from Accurate Roof Systems saying they approved my cancellation and refund, BUT they were going to charge me $3,203 for the "work" they have done. I get an itemized bill @$100 per hour. Half of which, isn't legitimate because it never happened. For example, writing an email to a supplier that took 5 hours to write?
This issue is still being debated and isn't finalized, but I had to get this out there. If you need a roof, definitely don't use this company. read more
