I went to the Liberty Tax Service (Bloomfield office) to have the taxes prepared for my small business. My taxes were ready to be signed before the personal tax return deadline. Turns out that my business return was late as they are due earlier than personal returns even with the covid related change in the deadline and I was fined over $800. When I contacted them about their mistake, I was treated like something your dog leaves for you on the floor when you forget to let her out. They ran me out of their office as fast as possible and told to fill out a form and mail it to some IRS address, as this was the least they could do to get rid of me. The next mouth a new bill arrived and they gave me another form with different address and got rid of me again. (In hindsight, it was obvious that they did not know what they were doing.) After that, they were gone and not answering their phone or present in their office during their stated office hours. I finally got in contact with the corporate office and they got the manager to call me. The manager did everything he could to convince me that I was at fault by giving them my information after the deadline and told me that they were tax preparers and not accountants and that they did not bother with deadlines ( not even to mention that the deadline was soon or even past). They only prepared tax forms. He promised to call the IRS on the tax preparrer's hotline. I never heard from him again. At this point, I decided there was no dealing with these people again and tried to contact them to get a copy of my tax return forms which they had forgot to provide me with before when I asked for them before. I was unable to contact them before and the headquarters was also unable to contact them this time. I had to spend a further $50 to pay the IRS to send me a copy. Bottom line, they are unresponsive, incompetent, and irresponsible. Go elsewhere for tax preparation.
