Doh. What bugged me even more is that I couldn't fix it myself and I'm normally quite good at this sort of thing. I took it in, picked it up a day or so later and when I got it home, it worked. I am certain that somewhere obvious inside the case there is a huge reset button labelled, "press here if you are an idiot", but I was too incompetent to find it and so suffered the ignominy of having to explain what I had done. I think the £100 I was charged were really punitive damages rather than the cost of repairs. They wouldn't tell me what they did to fix it, so I think that it probably actually took slightly under 2 minutes to open the case and slightly under 2 seconds to apply the fix. The people are friendly, my only beef is that on return, the case thumb screws had been replaced with regular slot screws. If they need to open the hood on a PC or laptop, they will charge you £70 for a diagnosis regardless of whether it can be fixed or not. If work is required you will be charged for parts and labour on top of that. They specialise in fixing Shuttle PCs here as well as laptops, but I'm sure they could sort out your desktop woes as well. All over, I have no real issue with this place and would use it again if necessary.

As this was my only touch point, I don't know if the owner being there made the process smoother. The staff are friendly, and the owner was frank about what they did to fix the issue. Any pc repair has a minimum cost no matter where you go due to labor and overhead. This place seemed like it was on the lower price range after calling a few places in downtown and didn't push useless services - definitely a far cry from the atrocity that is Geek Squad or whatever the equivalent is in the UK.

Well coincidence is a wonderful thing, as I was shopping in Islington and walked right past this computer shop. The sign caught my eye as I passed 'repairs - viruses, software'. So in I went. The guy did not commit himself when I asked for a price to remove a virus, he said it would be 50.00 per hour. He would not give me a top price as he said it would depend. Not much to go on. This could end up costing more than the computer?? I said I needed a price. He then said bring it in and if we cannot fix it we will reinstall the hard drive. I hate that kind of vagueness when it comes to price, you should at least commit to a no more than kind of cost. I doubt I will suggest my friend takes it here, except maybe for a solid quote and be prepared to walk away.

I had seen an ad on Gumtree for a Mac Pro that these guys were selling and so i arranged for it to be collected. There was a slight hiccup with that but these guys were able to stay on top of things and make sure that i was happy every step of the way. I left the place with a Mac Pro and a smile on my face. Very competative prices, you certainly wont find a fully working 8 core Mac Pro (early 09 model), 2GB graphics card, 1TB hard disk and 8GB of RAM for any less than £800 in good condition. Minkos Macs? £600! Madness right? Well thats the prices these guys are selling this type of gear at. And everything is on view, and can be seen all fully working, no shady 'behind the counter' stuff. The staff made sure i could see the machine at all times and even cleaned it out a bit for me! Amazing service from beginning to end and im happy to recommend them to anyone looking for a Mac, especially the desktop series of Macs (Mac Pro, iMac etc).
