The Docks Driving Range - Bucket of beers. You need the ice to keep it cold on a hot day like today.

Proximity, for the urban golfer, is its own form of luxury. The Docks Driving Range earns its place…read moreas a neighbourhood staple precisely because it asks so little of your schedule: unpretentious, and reliably open when the impulse to swing strikes. Situated at the water's edge with the Toronto skyline framing each shot, the setting carries a quiet drama that no indoor facility can replicate. The format is refreshingly straightforward: hourly mat rentals with unlimited balls, no fuss, no complicated booking ritual. The online waitlist system is a thoughtful modern touch, and the waterfront air adds a lightness to the session that a conventional range cannot manufacture. Where the experience shows its age is in the details. The hitting mats bear the honest wear of years of use, and the pricing structure during peak hours demands a scrutiny that the facility does not always reward. Those accustomed to pristine teeing surfaces and a curated soundtrack will need to calibrate expectations accordingly. Yet for the local regular, these are minor concessions in exchange for supreme convenience. This is a course correction between meetings, a stolen hour before dinner, a go-to. And in a city where accessible outdoor practice space is a genuine scarcity, The Docks fills that gap with admirable consistency.

This place is a great escape from downtown and is right on the water. While you can see the city…read moreskyline in the background, you feel away from the city which is great and relaxing! It's quite easy to reserve or join the waitlist for the driving range online. Due to the layout of the facility, the check-in spot is a little bit confusing the first time.

#ServiceStarShoutout This review is not for the golf course but the golf instructor I had here,…read moreScott D. I was recently gifted some golf lessons as a bday gift a while back. By the way, if you book private lessons, he takes the same rate regardless if you're single or in a group. After a few lessons, the package discount rate kicks in. I've been on and off with golf learning, read a book, watched some Youtube videos and received some tips from who I play with and people around the course. However, nothing beats having some in-person lessons with a pro. This is my first set of official lessons. Scott is easy to follow and gave some advice that is hardly focused on online resources. He marked my golf glove to change my grip slightly. He also gave me tips on setting up, aiming and helped me make the fine adjustments in positioning based on my height and the golf clubs I use. The grip positioning tweak is different than what I'm used to! The key takeaway I have received so far is to keep my arms/grip loose. As soon as you tighten your swing, there is more tendency to lose distance/accuracy. What an insight! I can use less effort but swing farther! I've been using my arms too much even though I thought I wasn't. So I tell myself now, go one notch looser than I think I am. This kind of intuitiveness builds naturally at an early age, so start your kids young in golf! He told us on his bad day, he would score a 74. That's his BAD day. The only issue I have is with booking him on the golf course. It seems like the golf course still runs in an old-fashioned way of writing down names on a book. You think with the 21st century, booking and confirmations are all online. One time, we were supposed to get an hour lesson, but the golf course messed up and wrote us down for half an hour. Scott was nice and just wrote it off this one time. It's all online for booking a tee time so I don't understand why they don't do the same for the instructor. Scott told us golf is his job, but his primary passion is music and songwriting. So he does performance gigs on the side as well. As for the course, I haven't played here yet maybe one day. I've been told it's not great for beginners given the longer distance. There are over 5 holes that are over 300 yards from the red tees and mostly par 4 or 5.

It's a golf course that's located off a subway. And one of the few public courses left in the GTA…read more The course it self is ok, but the cost could get you on many higher end courses in a relatively short drive away. I hadn't been here in a decade.. and the next time I'm back, I'll hopefully be retired.
