There were few folks visiting the day we went, midweek. They tout having the largest collection of species of fish , which i will probably agree. There was also manatees & dolphins of which both looked sooo bored! They really could use some type of enrichment; toys, interaction - something other than swimming about in circles. Sad to see. Yet the other exhibits were interesting, jellyfish, fishes from everywhere, reptiles. It's worth the stop. read more

Excellent time. Though I'm spoiled with the Baltimore aquarium, this one comes as a close second. Great variety of species, educational element. You can pet the stingrays as well! The kids experience in my opinion was not really forth it if your kiddo is over 6/7 years old. read more

Largest aquarium in Europe, but I can't help feeling a bit disappointed. I first visited this aquarium decades ago, when it first opened. In 1992 the entire waterfront area of the Porto Antico was redone, with major works by Italian architect Renzo Piano. And the aquarium feels a bit outdated, like it had been built in 1992 and never really modernized. For an aquarium this size, there is a lot of dead space. This is not to say that there isn't a lot to see; it will take you 2-3h to visit the aquarium, depending on how much time you want to spend here. Definitely buy tickets in advance; there is always a line, and this way you will be sure to get in. You will have the chance to pick the day and the time of your visit. As there are different ticketing options, if you have young children my suggestion would be to get combo tickets for the aquarium and the City of Children, and skip the Biosphere and the panoramic lift. The biosphere is small[1], and it felt somehow disconnected with the aquarium experience. The panoramic elevator/Bigo was inexplicably closed between 12 noon and 5 pm on a Sunday; as we had morning tickets to the aquarium, we just couldn't make it to the panoramic elevator. If you come here by train, the walk from Piazza Principe train station to the docks and the aquarium passes through some pretty derelict streets. ---------------------- [1] When we went, apart from some specific trees the only other things in there were some goldfish, a large parrot, some small birds, and a small glass cage with stick insects. read more

This aquarium is supposedly the biggest in Europe. It's always so busy. Lines were crazy! Book tickets in advance! It's sort of worth it. If you are in town, I would definitely go. But don't make a trip out here just for the aquarium if you are from the states. The one in Atlanta is five times better! Atlanta's is one of the top three in the world. The penguins, piranhas, eels, sharks, starfish, snakes (they tried to get out I swear) jellyfish, and toads are all great. But the Spotted unicornFish and foxface fish were super cool! The people were nice and there are other tickets that you can buy as a package to do more things in the city....kids run around like animals... read more

I was fortunate to be able to book this through the ODR in Vicenza. It was a one day bus trip to the aquarium and it was pretty amazing. Genoa is really pretty, on the water, and there are a few things to do around the aquarium if you have time left after the aquarium. read more

​This place is great - brings back memories (going with my mom, siblings and then bringing my nieces/nephews for a visit) and it is hard to beat in Europe as it is the largest Aquarium in the continent. The staff is always helpful and ready to point you on the right direction or track if needed. What is really cool about this place is that they also take care of sea creatures that are sick or too young to be on the wild - and if you are lucky enough you can be there when they are released in the wild. This is a must while in Genova. read more

Good but not great. I bought a pass for 4 attractions, this being the main one. Described as the largest in Europe, expectations were high, and not really met. Some cool things to be sure, but I think even the small aquarium in Hawaii was more interesting. Atlanta and Toronto aren't even coastal, but have better aquariums. One of my favorite things to do when we visit a place in the US is look for an aquarium. So naturally when we move to Europe, I did the same thing. One of the main reasons that we stopped in Genoa on a road trip was because of the aquarium. It's surpassed my highest expectations!! It was very clean. The atmosphere was incredible. We had an okay time at the aquarium. Two negatives- some of the tanks could have been a little better-kept, the marine life looked a bit sad/unhealthy, and the tanks looked as if they could have used better water quality. Second thing - the restaurant closes relatively early, so if you want to eat lunch there, make sure you go before 15:00. They had a small sandwich shop that offered a small selection of pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and sweets. read more

I was in Genoa for a day, after disembarking from a 12-night cruise. Wanting to see a few of the "must see" places, I decide to check this one out. It's a pretty decent aquarium with a nice collection of sea creatures including penguins, dolphins, manatees, and lots of different fish. My only 2 issues with this place is the lack of bathrooms (I only saw one, and it was a standalone/1 stall and I waited over 10 minutes for the person to come out) and I couldn't figure out how to get the heck out of there! I almost had a panic attack trying to find the exit. It was very warm and dark inside this place, so I became desperate to get outside for fresh air. I finally came across 2 guys that were also trying to leave, and they pointed me in the right direction down a flight a stairs. They need to make the exit(s) more obvious. Other than that, it was a pleasant way to spend 45 minutes as a solo person. Probably with kids, the experience would be even more enjoyable. read more

This is an amazing aquarium with hundreds of species of fish. During the weekend it gets a little bit crowded and I recommend you visit it during the weekdays if you can. The normal ticket is 24Euros and I can say it is worth it totally. The shark tank, dolphin section and the penguin section are the most amazing parts of the aquarium. In Genoa it is a must to see. read more
