I was going to the Acropolis back when it was the Athens. Ordered my favorite roast beef grinder and a Coke. Since that time, 1975, I believe I've had just about everything on the menu. The pizza is fabulous too! Since moving to Arizona, I've really missed going to the Acropolis. We don't have anything down here even close to what the Acropolis offers. My next visit to Kirkland I am looking forward to going to the Acropolis. You folks that own the restaurant are definitely doing the right thing by keeping it just as it has been all these years...fabulous!! This is a limited review as we only bought two grinders for takeout. We phoned in our order, and the grinders were ready quickly. Service was easy, pleasey. The restaurant looks big and roomy. They have parking on their lot; the streets nearby offer parking, too. My BIL used to love this place because they have "cheese-on-everything". I am partially lactose intolerant, so I avoided it until now. LOL. The Food: Italian Sausage hot oven grinder - 2 Stars Menu: spicy Italian sausage, marinara, green peppers & cheese Hubby had pizza in his mind when he choice this grinder, meaning the individual chunk (globs?) of sausage meat. The Italian sausage was literally a sausage sliced in half and placed in the sandwich. He said it tasted like a polish sausage with hot dog texture (yikes). It also has a pale red/pink color that resembles a hot dog (yikes again). The toasty bread that we saw in other Yelp photos was less so for both of our sandwiches. They were toasted but much softer/limp when we unwrapped our sandwiches. Vegetarian hot oven grinder - 4 Stars Menu: mayo, lettuce, cheese, onions, green peppers, black olives, tomatoes, mushrooms & seasoning I asked if there's a half cheese option. She said they can do light cheese. My grinder is well filled with all sorts of veggies with discernible cheese. It's fine by me really. I asked for no mayo, and I added my own hot sauce at home. It tasted quite good that way. The next time I take-out grinders again, I will bake them in the oven to brown the bread a bit. These sandwiches lost some texture on the way home. Note the website says $13.95 for all grinders. The Yelp online ordering says $16.95 instead. I didn't ask for a receipt, so I have no idea what the correct price is. read more

Pretty good first experience! We were welcomed with warmth by the staff. The spanakopita was good, and the tzatziki served on the side was pretty tasty as well. I enjoyed my Gyro Salad (my only critique is if there could be a liiiiiiiittle bit more meat on top, it was almost there but could just use a little bit more). The lasagna was pretty comforting, my SO enjoyed eating it. The garlic bread and pita bread were also yummy (I preferred the pita over the garlic bread). Acropolis is a popular spot. We were able to walk in on a Friday evening and get seated right away. It was somewhat loud inside due to the restaurant being full. We ordered a traditional gyro and the Italian grinder sandwich. The gyro had meat, sauce and sliced tomatoes. I was not super impressed with it. It looked like there was half of the meat that should have been on the sandwich, the meat was somewhat dry and lackluster. Same opinion about the grinder. I feel like the quality has declined over the years here. This would not be my first choice for a gyro or sandwich. read more

Returning to the Kirkland area after having been away for over a decade, our son insisted on heading over to Acropolis pizza - his fond memories of their food have been his gold standard for pizza (notwithstanding one establishment in the San Francisco area, but I digress...) We didn't have too much time to spend for a lunch - so we place an order to go while driving around the region. We kept it simple - a small pizza with sausage, cheese, green peppers as Kalamata olives. Extra crispy. We arrived and the store was exactly as he remembered. Indeed, it *smelled* exactly as he remembered - with the scents of deliciousness wafting from the inside as soon as we opened the door. **Oven Baked Spaghetti (meatballs added)** The entree arrives hot out of the oven, with the ceramic dish bubbling with fat and sauce. The highlight is definitely the cheesy crust over the top, which tasted good. However, the meatballs were nothing special--just balled-up ground meat with light seasoning that you can barely taste. The spaghetti portion of the dish was reminiscent of Chef Boyardee, which was okay, I guess. However, the Oven Baked Spaghetti gave off an interesting smell that I wasn't sure how I felt about. So, the million-dollar question: would I take this home and finish it? Probably not. Type of cuisine: Pizza, pasta, sandwiches and salads with Mediterranean flavor. Ambiance: Interiors looked to be out of the 1980s, with faux leather booths, and waxy tables, "fancy" lighting in 80s-esque chandeliers and spacious dining area. A random assortment of souvenirs from Greece were interspersed throughout as decoration. A stand-alone building, with parking makes for easy access. What I ordered: We selected the Gyro Salad ($16.95) of mixed lamb & beef strips over lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, feta, cucumbers tossed in a house-made Greek dressing, served with a side of tzaziki & pita bread. For dinner, we chose the Vegetarian 10" pizza ($23) with onions, green peppers, black olives, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese and tomato sauce, as well as a 10" Build Your Own ($13) with onion and pepperoni ($2 each additional topping). Cheesy comfort food. This stuff is loaded with cheese and just feels very hearty. The cheesy bread was a bit mediocre for the price/appetizer. It felt like Costco shredded cheese on top of bread. Didn't taste the garlic in the garlic bread. But the entrees were pretty hearty. The cannolini was very saucy but the noodles were a bit undercooked. I like that they bake it but it feels like the stuff inside it wasn't really prepped right. The chicken parm my husband got started off good but then when we got to the center where the chicken was sitting on, it tasted like stuff was boiled in like old hot dog water or something. Tons of parking, clean restaurant that is very homestyle. The best thing about this place is the food! This is by far the best spaghetti and chicken parmesan I have ever eaten in greater Seattle. They also have the best ranch dressing I have ever eaten in my life! After calling back the next time I went to the restaurant, I bought a 12 oz portion of the ranch dressing for $6.00. Prices are low and portions are big. Entrees are under $20.00 and come with a salad or soup. Service is family-owned and very nice and professional. A neighborhood gem! This little spot is new to me since moving to Kirkland - the food and staff are not to be missed. Pizza...try the best veggie pizza that I have ever had - FULL of veggies and topped with sliced tomatoes. If you are a meat-eater, try it and add their house-made sausage. DELISH!! The veggie girders are also TDF, as is their garlic bread. Skip the unstructured lasagna - believe me on this one. The staff are kInd, friendly and totally on top of it. Good Greek style food! Cute old-fashioned restaurant and the servers were lovely and treats everybody like long time regulars! We had a delicious Greek salad with lots of fresh tomatoes that were perfectly ripe (where do they get their tomatoes??), had the appetizer sampler platter (everything was YUM), gyro, and a pizza! Our sweet waitress recommended that we dip our pizza crust into the salad dressing and it was the way to go! It added a brightness to our pizza experience They have a huge pizza oven in their kitchen and the pizza came out screaming hot with the cheese nicely browned on top - doesn't make for a pretty picture but it tastes great!
