Took my computer in to make it Windows 11 compatible and move some older programs over to make them work with the upgrade. Was talked into buying a "New Business Build" with windows 11 and compatibility installed for older programs. Was left with 2 unusable computers for my business. When I return to the store I was told after all the problems, "We don't handle software problems.... I was under the impression Action Computer fixed computer problems, I guess that is not their job. And when I asked to speak to he owner or manager the employees refused to give me his phone number! read more

had my computer for over a week to remove a virus. I called three days after they got my but left a message and no one called me back. I called two days later which was a week since I took it in. They said they would finish up on it and call me back late Friday. They never called back. I went in Monday. They said my computer was ready. I guess this is the best that Merced can do. Best Buy is closed and living in Atwater Staples is too far to be convenient. Took my comp in to have the power supply upgraded for a video card on a Thursday morning. They have the worst hours so the only time I can do it is on my way to work. I get a call shortly after dropping it off but I'm driving so no voicemail so I don't think much of it. Maybe it took a second to log in, who knows. They didn't say anything so why would I think it was a problem? I call back later that evening for the guy to tell me that the power supply I brought it wouldn't work, it wasn't compatible with the brand of computer I had. I have to buy one of their power supplies. Come in the next morning just after 8am to find out they are still working on my comp and will be later that evening. I work until 6pm which is after they close. I have to wait until Monday to pick my computer up... All weekend without the computer... Monday morning I come by and they say it is working great but the CD-Rom isn't powered. I tell that was one of the reasons I came to them, why couldn't they tell me that over the phone. They now have to uninstall the power supply and I went 5 days without a computer and still paid for the work they did, which accomplished nothing. What a terrible way to run your business! I scheduled an appointment with whom I found out was the manager, to have cameras installed in my house. I call to verify what time they will be here, and Justin, the manager, proceeds to tell me he never scheduled an appnt. Well he called me personally over a week ago to set the install time. What a sad way to run a business. Then to really care less that you have an upset customer? not good! Action Computers is by far the best place in Merced County to have your computer worked on. Their prices seem fair for the service that your receive. I have taken my computer there and had all spyware removed (my wife was happy!) and when my hard drive crashed they were able to recover all my data (amazing). When I went to replace my old computer, I had them custom build me a new one with top of the line parts. That is a cool process if you are into that kind of thing. I was notified when my part came in and the young man behind the counter really knows how to do customer service right I will always be recommending action computers to my friends family and coworkers because of the fact that they do have great customer service. I took my "intermittently flakey" laptop to Action Computers after it crashed from a recent Windows 10 Update moment. The computer wouldn't even "pickup" by using F4 while booting. Action Computer called back a couple days later and indicated that they also found intermittent problems on the computer and traced it to a defective hard drive. A day later I picked up the Laptop now working with a new hard drive. I've discovered that it now works perfectly without the frustrating odd problems that I had previously blamed Windows 8.0, 8.1 & 10. I'm really happy to have the device back in 1st class shape and the price for the repair was reasonable. read more

The owner is a great person and has the inegrity it takes to not only run a business but keep it running. I bought a computer in 2005 and it's still as fast when surfing the web as some of the newer big box store computers. The reason is simple. I needed my laptop screen repaired a few years ago. Took it in and was told that it might take a week and a half, tops. I called at the time I was told to call and was told they needed more time. I went in and spoke to one of the techs. He told me they'd had my laptop for nine days and were just getting to it that day! Some excuse that they were busy or something. I expressed my concern and they apologized and promised a week, no more. They ordered the screen. It took a week to get in and was not the correct size. I had to wait a total of three weeks for a one week job! To add insult to injury, the owner of the shop, don't remember his name right now because it was a few years ago, looks at my business debit card and says he will not accept it because he didn't "recognize the name of the business." He was just being a jerk! By this time, I had had enough. He eventually accepted the payment, but I had to threaten to call the police before he did. I have read mixed reviews of this establishment, and if you have a good experience with these folks, good for you! Personally, I did not, and I have friends in the tech industry who told me that they were not surprised that had this experience. It was a nightmare. I hope they have improved since the time I dealt with them. read more

i took my 2010 toshiba laptop in 8-10-12 to diagnosis why it's not booting up. the counter person told me will take about 2-3 day to find out what wrong with it. 2 week later, they havn't even work on my laptop. they say just a couple more day they will get to it. i took my laptop and left. NEVER take your pc or laptop to this place to fix it, it will take forever for you pc to be fix. they even have a policy that if the pc is in their shop for 30 day, they have the right to keep it. read more

The technicians here are CROOKS. DO NOT TAKE YOUR COMPUTER IN HERE! I took my computer in here in November of 2008 for repair. Picked it up 3 weeks later. Seemed to be running fine. Few months later I moved and it started acting up again. This time saying I'm running low on disk space. I've got a Dell 2002 desktop with a 40gb hard drive. I can't be low in disk space because I hardly had any program's running on it. Anyway I took it in to a computer place by my husbands work in Watsonville. They called me up and told me that I needed to replace my 20gb clone hard drive. And that i had 2 operating systems running on it at the same time!! I told them that my computer has a 40 gb Dell hard drive on it WTF. Nobody else has ever worked on that computer but Action Computers in Merced CA. Come to find out Action computers stole my original hard drive and replaced it with a clone half the size. DO NOT TAKE YOUR COMPUTER IN THERE!!! They will rip you off. read more

My computer screen would go black and freeze up. I accidentally returned it to factory settings. So my husband said to take it in,and action computers could recover all my files, and fix it. As soon as they fixed it, I brought it home. The recovered files wouldn't open, then the computer froze up and went black. We took it back down, and the nice young man at the counter, was surprised that it froze and went black on me. He said it was working perfectly. He couldn't open the recovered files, and then it went black on him. They kept it. A few days later they called and said it was fixed. Again we went down. No one could open the recovered files, so they kept it to work on it. They backed up the recovered files on a external drive, and then returned it to factory settings. Which is the same thing I had already done. So I paid $110 for a drive to back up corrupt files that no one can open, I brought the computer home to start fresh. It was on 3 minutes, froze and went black. I am very sad. The boys working there were very kind and polite, but no one seemed to know what was going on with my computer, and just kept calling it fixed. I should have saved my $250, and just counted my losses, and put it toward a new computer. read more

Action Computers IS the way to go..! I highly recommend them not only for personal computers, but for business servers and computers as well. We are set up on an annual maintenance contract with them. They come to our office every quarter, up date any programs that need it, and make sure that our system is virus free..!! I took my laptop in about two months ago because the screen was cracked. They said they needed to open it up in order to see what exact screen was needed (for a charge of course) and then they could give me a price. Said it would be a couple days. I had to call them a week later after not hearing anything and they hadn't even started. The Next day they called to give me the price...screen was $280 for a $300+ computer. I went to a competitor which I will not mention and not only did they not charge me to open up my computer, they didn't have to open it up to tell me the screen price. Simply scanned the back without a charge and the overall price was $160 for the screen and labor. I'll never wast my time and money with these guys again. read more

Not too bad; need work on customer service. Ive managed a repair shop in san jose so know customers want, expect and deserve. NEVER let your customer have to call to check up on you. Also go for "the more contact the better." Best Buy may be more expensive but may be worth it.
