I know, it's not entirely original or unique but it does make it feel homely and welcoming. As you're guessed this takeaway specialises in Tandoori dishes - and they certainly are good. It does take a bit of time to get your meal but everything is made freshly so I do not mind waiting for a bit longer.

There is a fully stocked deli counter of pakora, bhaji and other Indian delights, as well as the obligatory revolving kebab stick. There is a separate chip shop counter for all of the usual chip shop fare, including a good old roll and fritter and pickles a plenty. The staff are friendly and full of fun, always providing some friendly banter to their local punters. The name says it all really, all the food you could want, all in one lovely little place.

I have so far only tried a few veggie ones & a couple of chicken ones (their Chicken Tikka & Saag Aloo being my 2 favourites) with garlic naan or buttered chapati & rice and it is all SO damn tasty! Their curries don't feel mega unhealthy either and the taste is always scrummy. For the price you're paying for a take-away curry here it really is the best I've ever had from a take-away/kebab shop. It gets pretty busy at the weekends, but they are friendly, quick, and have plenty of seating, newspapers, and a TV to see you through. They also have some good set menu options, with meals for 1 and 2 for as little as £10-15. If you're like me and enjoy the basics, it's a safe bet and a cheap dinner all round. Unlike most establishments in this area, it seems to have held onto the same management for quite some time now. Thankfully, this means that the food is consistently good and the menu is upgraded once in awhile. Not bad at all.

I'll start by admitting that I don't really eat Indian food very often. In fact, the last time I…read morehad some was around 2 years ago when I was pregnant and craved mushroom pilau. So when I say I was taking a gamble on Madras Cottage I really mean it. I'd heard a few good things from friends and family members so we decided to give it a go. It was around half 9 before we sat down and didn't feel like having a huge curry at that time of night so we ordered a sort of buffet selection to nibble at. Chicken pakora, fish pakora, onion bhaji, chips and peshwari naan. Ambitious I know but when you can't decide, order everything. Am I right? Twenty five minutes later the food was at our front door, much to the delight of our vocal stomachs. First, the fish pakora. My love affair with fish pakora started a few years back at a friend's house in East Wymess and every bit of fish pakora I've had since has had to live up to it. It's a hard ask but Madras came close. Crunchy on the outside, flaky and soft in the middle with subtle spices. The chicken pakora was massive. Absolutely enormous. We chose regular portions and I was immediately pleased we did when we opened up the container. The chicken was slightly dry but the pink pakora sauce sorted that right out. There didn't seem to be any heat at all though. A very safe option if you're scared of spice! The onion bhajis. I'm still thinking about them a couple of days later. Crispy, crunchy outside with a perfectly soft, sweet, spicey onion filling. The heat was intense on this one and my hubby found it a bit too much but this almost warranted a five star on its own. Definitely worth a go. The chips were standard and were purely there in case the portions were small. They weren't and we left quite a lot of chips as a result. The Peshawari naan was more like a dessert. Filled with jam and desiccated coconut my sweet toothed husband was in his element. It did taste really good though. It wasn't sickly sweet and the naan bread itself was fluffy and soft. A nice way to end our feast. Despite worrying that we didn't know the best place for Indian in our area we actually managed to bag ourselves a really tasty pick and mix of a meal from Madras. And when the notion takes me again (in a couple of years probably!) we'll know exactly where to go.

It can be slightly more expensive than other Indian take-aways in the area, but it definitely stands out as the best. Loads of amazing dishes here, they have several speciality kormas, all of your usual curries, and a kick-arse burryani. If you're not a big fan of Indian food, they also have really good chips and pizza. The pièce de résistance is their delectable peshwari naan. You might know this as a naan bread bastardised with jam and almonds, or something along those lines, but Madras Cottage takes it to a whole new level, with jam and coconut. It's sweet, it's savoury, it'll probably keep you all night with all the sugar, but most of all, it's bloody delicious.
