Besides a…read morelovely collection of clothes (last time there were lots of posh party frocks and a Hard Rock Café leather jacket for £50), they have some great bric-a-brac shelves. I've found some real bargains here: prices are often cheaper than in London charity shops. For instance on a recent trip I spotted ginger jars for £2.50 each. They also have some lovely carved wooden first-hand stuff. Kids mini jigsaws and money boxes with little carved animals on them. Lovely and very reasonably priced. In the back they have a book nook. It has to be described that way: nice neat shelves and a central padded bench were you can sit and read if you wish. The staff are friendly, and I defy anyone not to find something of interest.

While some pieces are v pricey, as any designer label goods are, some are reasonable and there's a great range of more affordable accessories - it's a lovely place to buy my cousins a special birthday treat. Particularly like the fact that Clare, the owner, holds a fashion show each season and her customers' children star; demonstrates the personal service the store represents.

I find it a bit of a chore to work my way around the store to find anything but at times I have found a good bargain. The store is generally clean and tidy, just has a lot in it. Not a lot of the adult clothing moved my soul, although they have some great beach bags, totes and purses. I think if you were about to go somewhere hot, you'd find pretty swimwear and cover ups. Also, I get the feeling that the stock changes frequently, and I really want to know where it's made before I buy anything there. Food for thought.

In Denmark, the stores for large women like me tend to think that we want to wear frills and large flowers which I definitely DON'T, so I love my stuff from Bonmarché. Will actually be going to Reading in a few days, and can't wait to visit Bonmarché there! I agree with other reviews here on QYPE - the clothes are generally for the more mature woman (I'm 51) - and a lot of it I didn't like. But that's the kind of shop I like - something for everyone! The designs, cut and colours of the clothes are always unique but accessible, so you feel like you're wearing something high-fashion in that it's different from other stores, but without such a ridiculous price tag. The shoes and accessories aren't bad either, but the absolute best thing to go shopping there for are the underwear and socks - they often have really cute designs on them (pandas, cartoon policemen etc) and always have offers if you buy in bulk (3 for £7 etc). The staff are aways really helpful - my Dad said he had printed off a 30-page (heh heh) wishlist of clothes from their website that I wanted for Christmas, and one of the sales assistants gladly took him round the shop and helped him find whatever they had in stock - and this was on Christmas Eve!
