Although it does have a reasonable range of stock it is hard to get to any of it as the aisles between clothing rails are so narrow that 2 people cannot pass each other let alone can you get a buggy down there or a wheelchair. There are lots of toys and baby goods but most are in damaged boxes or have been knocked to the floor and damaged. Likewise in the gift and homeware sections much of the stock has been damaged in store. The staff are unhelpful and queues to be served at the tills are always long whatever tome of day it is. The staff make you feel you are inconveniencing them by wanting to pay for goods.

I thought this was estate agent hype, but it seems that the rail operator, C2C, bought into this because they recently added for Southchurch Village under Southend East on their station signs. The area is trying to be a little like Notting Hill with quirky, trendy shops and cafes It's not a bad thing considering the main shopping area in Southend is incredibly bland. In the middle of the village is Zu, a clothing store catering to those with European tastes and a good deal of money. I have bought a number of special outfits for my kids from this shop and I have to say, it is wonderful. I wish I could afford to shop here all the time. They were one of the first shops in Southend to stock Crocs and Uggs (I'm not a fan but you can't argue that they're very popular). Their Mexx and Oilily dresses are unusual, well made and covetable. Small Paul clothes for the boys are everything little boys should be - smart and a little bit cheeky! They also stock Camper, Kenzo, Diesel and Leli Kelly. I would award 5 stars if I could get a dress for my 3 year old for less than £40!!

This is not just a review, this is an M&S review.sorry, I couldn't resist…read more M&S is a very large shop on 2 floors, mostly catering to women's clothing, but also stocking men and children's clothing too. The ground floor is pretty much all overpriced food, (the same stuff you can get in Tesco for like half the price, because it's not just food, it's M&S food, as if that's some sort of special food). The food however is very clearly labelled, and well planned out, though some of the aisles are a bit close to each other, but not overly close that you can't get around. The top floor caters for clothing, which in contrast to the food isn't that bad priced, (especially underwear), though of course the fashion items are very costly. Also featured is a cafe area where you can rest to eat and drink, and the food is pretty nice, if a bit on the expensive side. The staff are friendly and helpful, and will help you any way they can. The shop also features a large lift for disabled access, though it is a bit out of the way, at the far end of the store.

The food area is now laid out better and it is easier to find what you want. There are also tills fro those with only a basket to speed up service, although it is still sometimes a little slow. There is a lift and escalator up to the first floor which has women's underwear and accessories, men's clothing and a small eange of children's clothing. It also has a larger cafe and customer services. The cafe is often very full but has good wheelchair / buggy access. The tables are very close to each other but it is usually possible to find a space.
