Alumni here. Went to the Bookstore to order some merchandise. Everything is sold through a third-party. The service is lousy. The website is lousy. I ordered a $50 mystery grab bag and received an ugly short-sleeved shirt worth about $5. Called the bookstore to talk to the person who sent the ugly shirt and spoke to a very rude dude named John, who mansplained to me how grab bags work. LOL What a dick! Reading all the other reviews here, it truly makes me wonder what happened to the awesome college I attended many moons ago. Makes me sad. read more

Unfortunately, the school had a less than adequate and unprofessional admissions process and communication that left a terrible taste in my mouth. This aligned with what I'd heard about the school. So I'm grateful to have had the bad experience upfront so, that I chose a different school, and invested elsewhere at a much more together and reputable institution. read more

Watched a volleyball game, where the Adams student fans must have been the rudest bunch of kids I've ever witnessed. The coach was made aware of their fans, and the coach's response was something sarcastic like "you know it's a college game". I have been to lots of college games where the fans are notified that they too should have good sportsmanship, and not just the players. I'm not too surprised that this commuter school has such an awful set of reviews. If the coach is tolerant of that kind of behavior in the gym, the school itself is probably tolerant of that kind of behavior everywhere else on campus. Parents beware of the school you drop your children at for 4 years of their young adult lives. read more

Somewhat disappointed. I can't rate three stars because that means acceptable, and this is not, so far. I am speaking of the prison program, part of the Distance Learning Program. I am not commenting on the quality of instruction or degree program -- just some details about the prison learning program for a BA/BS upon completing an AA/AS for someone I love, who is in prison. In summer 2016 my son was accepted to the school and was waiting for his program plan and detailed procedures for the program to be sure any money was well spent before enrolling in the first class and plunging ahead. After receiving nothing by mid-September, I inquired with Dist Learning and was told it was sent six to eight weeks earlier. At my request, the entire package was resent and he got it in 10 days. The class cost $555 (a 3-unit semester class). Just before the first class, the bookstore changed vendors and my book order for him was "lost in the cracks". By the time this was sorted out (many calls to a phone number that no one ever picks up) a month passed and I was advised the bookstore cannot reorder without another 2-3 month delay because there was a new edition of the book now being published and they had no copies on-hand. I had to order through Amazon (which I probably should have done in the first place). Amazon was fine. Then, apparently, the prison "lost" the first book I ordered. Luckily the vendor with Amazon paid for tracking and it was scanned into the PO that handles mail for this prison. With my son saying he never got the book week after week, I finally went to the PO and met with the PO supervisor who explained how books are delivered to the prison. After seeing the process, I believe this was not a vendor or PO issue, but a prison delivery issue, perhaps theft, but who knows. Anyway, I had to reorder the book (another $100) and the second order got to him in two weeks. Once the books and all materials were received, he started the class. The first essay went fine. He wrote it, had it sent to Adams, and it was graded. In a timely manner, he received the results - no issue. Then my son requested the first exam be sent to the proctor (that is the process, an essay which is graded and returned, then you can request the test -- seems like this can be sped up but...). The request to take the exam was returned to Adams a week before Christmas. Now in February (after winter break), I inquired about the delay in getting the exam sent to him only to find his exam request was never received by Dist Learning (per Adams). Two months have passed since my son requested the exam and the Dist Learning wants him to request the exam again (more forms and delay). Have you ever taken an exam several months after learning the material? Good luck. Bottom line -- I am finding this program to be unacceptably slow. James Bullington (Jim) is fine and helpful, but he needs to push to reduce the points of potential failure and run the prison education program with his own staff, with more direct oversight. Mixing folks who are in prison (who can only correspond by mail) with those who have phones, PCs, and email access is not serving my son well. The whole thing has been fraught with delays and pinning down the exact cause is hard (is it people, prisons, proctors, my son, Dist Learning, PO, bookstore, etc). Who knows? With Adams you polite emails and quick replies, but the classes are expensive with too many "points of failure" leading to unnecessary delays. Streamlining is needed and, hopefully in the future, some interaction with the prison management to explain what the program is all about and get more cooperation from the prison - STREAMLINE, for example, when an exam is requested cannot the prison staff send an email instead of snail mail? Can't I do that for him -- I mean he calls me twice a week and I see him most weekends. For our situation, there are a lot of administrative things that I can do with email and phone calls much faster. While some issues may not seem to fall on Adams, I fault them in part for not adjusting the program to fit the need, including book ordering, exam confirmation or just keeping in touch on the progress with someone like me on the outside who can move swiftly --- things a prisoner just cannot get done in any timely manner. Additionally, pushing the prison to help streamline may seem like "oh, that will never happen" but why not try? Why not push? We applied to the school in April 2016, and its now nearly 10 months have passed and the first class is still not done. Unless you have a 30 year sentence, why bother? If Adams improves I will post an update. If not, I will post a final review explaining why we discontinued this program. read more

After taking a class with this place I can't believe they are still in business. It's pathetic how hard is it to answer the phone or reply to an email. I am so frustrated by this school I couldn't possibly imagine taking another class with them unless it was absolutely needed towards my degree. I am defiantly sad to have had such a negative experience coming back to school and having to deal with all the difficulties of this establishment :( save yourself the time, money, and frustration and go some where else! read more

I just moved to Alamosa. I applied for a job as Assistant Professor. I got an interview immediately. I was told the interview would not go over 15 minutes and I would not have an opportunity to ask questions. I was asked four questions if I remember correctly. The questions, read from cue cards by the committee, were vague, ambiguous, and had nothing to do with my ability as a Professor. No questions regarding my activities as an Assistant Professor, nothing about my research agenda, nothing about my service work, nothing about my teaching philosophy, etc... Basically, this was a profiling interview. I eventually reached out to them as they never contacted me again as they said they would. I was told they were busy, they made an "unofficial" offer to someone else, and that was all they could tell me. I am relieved I was not selected. Unprofessional to say the least and it felt clickish, inbred, and homegrown. read more

I'm sorry to say that I was enrolled in and graduated from the Adams State University CRM MA program. My time spent in this program was nothing but a nightmare. The professors didn't respond to emails or phone calls, they didn't submit grades on time, and the course content was laughable. This entire program was a joke. The professors admitted that they didn't have time to read the dissertations they were signing off on, and while serving on thesis committees they sometimes delayed scheduling student defenses for months on end. If you are thinking about enrolling in this program, DON'T! If you do, you will not be paying to further your education, you will be paying for a worthless piece of paper that you will have to fight to get. You will constantly be begging the professors to do their jobs. This degree WILL look like an academic blackeye on your resume. I know it looks like a good opportunity, but I can not encourage you strongly enough that you don't want to get stuck in this program! read more
