The train personnel were friendly on guiding us where to buy our tickets. We also bought thr metro card for the following day so we can tour the city again.

Honestly, this is so much better than the older bus station, not that I really catch buses all this…read moremuch these days, namely because flying is so much cheaper, and convenient, and faster (though not so environmentally friendly). Yeah, the old bus station was a bit of a dump, however this newer one has great facilities, and is a much better place for buses that come through Adelaide, which is probably the major non-car method of getting around the state. Yeah, they have definitely made it a much better place to catch buses from.

That 6 hour Stateliner trip with 8 million stops to Mount Gambier is the bane of my existence and as soon as I could get my license I was saving for a car so I wouldn't have to travel on the bus anymore. Having said that, for those who don't mind the bus the service has greatly improved as has the facilities. The new Central Bus Station has been there for a few years but looks so much nicer than the sad looking building next door that was its former residences. The building is light and airy and there is plenty of seating room while you wait. There is big row of customer service people who can help with your questions and a little café to purchase magazines or food for the trip. There are nice toilet facilities and a freight area where you can pick up packages sent up on the buses. A definite improvement on what used to be there before, although there is still not great parking which becomes a pain.

We were so excited to go on our first Ghan train trip -- which departed Adelaide from the Parklands…read moreterminal at noon that day. First the check in was pretty painless. We drove up to the front behind one other car and the staff helped With our bags. Then went into the terminal and went to the Gold line. Only one person in front of us checking in. Checkin was done within 8 min or so. The folks had the terminal all fixed up with mimosas, coffee and tea, cookies a few sweets and live music. There was plenty of seating for waiting passengers and a small gift shop with Ghan items such as tea towels, t shirts, wallets, magnets and more. The train pulled up about 30 min before we got on. The steward assigned to our car greeted us and helped us put our carry on luggage in our sleeper car. I love that they had the welcome aboard mural so u can take a picture with the train before you get on. It has some beautiful colors in it. All-in-all it was a well designed and comfortable terminal to wait to board the train. Good job!

At the pub, the first night I treated myself to a couple of cocktails. The strawberry Pom sour and the tropical pornstar martini. I loved the fruity flavors of both drinks and would be hard pressed to pick a preference, just get them both! You won't be disappointed. They are a little pricey, but lucky me-I had a two for one offer. In the end I went to the pub all three nights and always enjoyed what I ordered. I only had the cocktails the first night with my special offer because the happy hour for beers and wine is amazing-$6 a drink-you cannot go wrong. I opted for the house white wine which was decent. Regarding food, somehow I ended up down a pumpkin path. I had the wood roasted pumpkin in curry sauce and loved it! Another night I had the pumpkin satay soup of the day, and that was also delicious. Alas, on my third night I had whiting-I think that's a local fish, grilled and it was fantastic. The fish was delicate and perfect with dill sauce. The chips were the nice pub style thick cut, and tasted like fresh potatoes. A little pricey, but it balanced out with the happy hour wine. The portion size of the mains is on the small side, but most likely because we are used to such huge portions that a normal sized portion seems small. The ambiance is classic pub and the service is good. All in all a great establishment to spend some time in.

5 start hotel just not up to scratch…read more Firstly, this is not a whingefest, just a really disappointing experience which I find inexcusable for a 5 star hotel. Lot of little things resulted in a poor stay. - stained sheets (rust or blood) which we were promised would be changed immediately, but an hour later still nothing done. - restaurant (Riverside) just not on par. From giving away our table one morning after we'd been seated to having my breakfast delivered to the wrong table the next, non-existent service and limited dinner menu, it was just not good enough. - incorrect information bring given by concierge about availability of hire bikes - beds had a distinct ridge in the middle (no doubt result of 2 singles being pushed together) which made it very uncomfortable In short, it says 5 stars, but it really isn't and probably shouldn't market itself as such.

So we try to do something nice and pick a 4 or preferably 5 star hotel to stay in. We hadn't stayed at The Hilton before and it was more expensive than other similar hotels, but with the Hilton brand we expected it to be really good. We spent a similar amount on a King deluxe room as we could have got a nicer room elsewhere (eg: small suite). We got breakfast as well. What was nice. The room was clean with stickers everywhere saying it had been 'Covid cleaned'. The bed was comfy. Temperature control was good and water pressure was great. Concierge were nice and friendly. Took a while for the Honors app digital key to kick in, but that was a nice touch. And when a room a couple of doors down stated playing music so loud it was thumping through ours, they were quick to come up and handle the situation. What could have been better. No robes - we had to call down and they supplied them within 10 minutes with many apologies. No top sheet on the bed. Again, a call downstairs and they fixed that too. Less than one roll of toilet paper supplied - glad we didn't run out, though came close. Room service stops at 10pm - seems a little early for a 5 star hotel. And if we did want anything, well $8.50 for a bottle of water? (There's no mini-bar due to Covid, so room service is your only option if you need something). Their online info says we can use our own subscriptions for Apple TV, Netflix etc but we couldn't find instructions on the TV as stated and by that stage, we were just a little over the whole thing so didn't bother calling for assistance. I'm tech savvy and if I need help to get that working, I wonder how others might fare. And it's a little thing, but I expect the toilet roll holder in a 5 star hotel to be complete, but half of it was missing. It just looks shabby and dated, as if they don't worry much about maintenance. And that's probably a statement of the place as a whole - it's clean, but dated. Breakfast was just a let down. It was obvious they'd been cooking food for a while, as the bacon was dry and chewy, but they hadn't put the tags out to state what was under each of the cloches. And when I came to use the toaster, one of the staff wiped down the knobs and in so doing turned the setting up to charcoal (I think technically it was "dark", but the result was the same). Coffee was served in individual plungers, but they didn't put anywhere near enough coffee in, so the result was so weak it was almost tasteless. And then for some reason they supplied the milk in another coffee mug, so trying to pour inevitably resulted in a pool of milk on the table. These are little things - but they just suggest they're not prepared for their guests. You might excuse one, but after half a dozen issues it's just not 5 star quality. Finally, the parking is a 5 minute walk away and with Covid, no valet service - fair enough. They offered a ticket for a local car park for $25. We declined but ending up parking in the same car park. We paid $8 instead. That's just a rip-off. Summary Charges like a 5 star hotel, but misses the mark. Promised much but delivered little. We won't be back.

This is my first visit to Adelaide so can't compare my experience here with the other hotels…read more However the rooms are comfy, spacious. I love the large bathrooms and that there is free wifi. The other mantra hotels I've been too didn't offer free wifi, so this is a winner for me. Also there is a lap pool!!! The full breakfast is a little disappointing with its selection but overall a good experience.
