Warning: when you say to family and friends, "I'm sorry I can't do brunch I have an archery class" you will get funny looks. But also know that you will be able to brush off those raised eyebrows cause you too are part of an exclusive club of Adelaidians who can wield a bow and arrow.
Scary thought when you realise that anyone can come to a beginner class and just start shooting off arrows in the park...
Anyway, after attending a series of 3 Sunday beginners classes here for $60 I can see why the appeal goes beyond just the Robin Hood/Xena Warrior Princess/Daryl from Walking Dead aspect of it all.
Our coach look like he had walked off a cartoon depicting a typical Archery coach with a well groomed mustache, coppa and probably 200 years of experience he was clear, direct and incredibly supportive of the 25 people in our class.
We were split into groups of 4-5 people and could all shoot at the target at once meaning you didn't feel the pressure to finish quickly. Each group had its own coach and we had an awesome young dude who was so helpful and gave great tips.
And so progressed 3 Sunday mornings of shooting arrows at a target from different distances for 1.5 hours. Sounds boring as bat shit but was ridiculously fun. Everyone (even the little ones who can come to these classes) should master the skill of the bow and arrow. I mean who knows when the next zombie apocalypse could be right? read more
