The Hutt Street City Library has one of the best collections of books in all the four city libraries. Downstairs it has a standard range of fiction, newspapers, computers and printing facilities and a small range of kids' books.
It's only when you discover UPSTAIRS that you find the beauty of this particular library. They have a great range of foreign-language books - shelves upon shelves of books written in Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese, Indonesian, Greek and other, and books for people fluent in the language, not just at intermediate levels for learners.
Their non-fiction section also gets me excited. Just within the History section they have different topic areas, ranging from ancient Greece and Egypt to Colonial times to contemporary history of the political and cultural situations around the world. Then there are all the other sections...
They also have a fantastic cooking range, so if you feel like trying some authentic recipes from different cultures, it's a great place to find an authoritative chef/author. read more
