Last night, my cat was not feeling well. He was coughing as if something was stuck in his throat. We ended up taking him to the Adobe animal hospital in Los Altos. He's been there many times for other issues, and the care he received in the past has always been excellent. When we checked in, there was only one animal ahead of us. It's a nice waiting area. Everything was clean and spotless. We waited about 15 minutes before being put in a room. There was only one Dr. on site, but luckily, they weren't too busy. Dr. Beard and her vet techs took excellent care of my boy. He apparently was having an asthma flare-up. They gave him a sedative shot, since he was being a bit spicy. He hates going to the Dr., just like other pets. They gave him oxygen and a steroid shot. They also took x-rays to be sure there were no foreign objects in his throat. Luckily, all the x-rays were clear. They monitored him, and we were able to take him home after he stabilized. The staff are wonderful here. They treat your pet as if it were their own. Dr. Beard and her team helped make my baby feel better, and I'm so grateful for their compassion and love for all animals. You can tell these folks love what they do. Adobe will always be our number one place to go to for an emergency. read more

I used to go to Adobe for many years and with a lots of pets (mostly dogs). Even after spending tens of thousands of dollars there (example: one of my dogs was in the ICU there for weeks leading up to my wedding, and then died immediately after we brought her home), I was still pleased with the care and value overall. We moved away for a little while, and now that we are back, NO. Absolutely not. We have gone to both locations and had bad experiences in both places! The doctor I met with in Los Gatos was new, and he was downright incompetent and insulting! They used to hire the best. The tech in Los Altos was also rude (what gives!?) and completely inexperienced. Another tech had to step in mid-vaccine for our new puppy, which was scary and bizarre. If you want a vet who will support you and your pet when something goes wrong, this is not the place. Just take a look at their reviews - we are not the only people who've had a terrible experience that permanently impacted a pet's health. Our dog went in for a routine dental cleaning, and came out with tail necrosis necessitating AMPUTATION. Adobe had no explanation for what could have possibly caused the necrosis, but insisted that they didn't do anything wrong. This made no sense to me, so I consulted experts for second opinions. They ruled out various possible underlying conditions, and confirmed that the most likely explanation was that Adobe had injured our dog's tail during the cleaning. There was no evidence supporting any other explanation. When faced with all of this, Adobe refused to take any accountability. Adobe actually charged us for the follow up appointment to look at the tail (I had never been charged by a vet for post-surgery follow-up appointments), and refused to cover the cost of the tail amputation. This is all despite the medical director Dr. Ellis conducting a literature review that failed to identify any possible alternative causes for the necrosis (according to Adobe employee Cindy). You would think that when your pet comes out of a dental cleaning with an injury requiring amputation, and the vet has no explanation for what caused the injury, and other vets say that the most likely cause is that the vet caused the injury, the vet might take some responsibility, right? Wrong. Instead of trying to resolve things positively, Adobe punted us to their corporate parent company's insurance. The insurance adjuster (Heather from Gallagher) informed me that she did not review Adobe's records, but after a single call with Cindy determined that there was no evidence that Adobe was responsible for the necrosis. When I discussed the second opinion that I had received, Heather condescendingly implied that I was lying to her and invited me to bring suit. I provided Adobe and the insurance company with a formal written second opinion from our veterinary pathologist, opining that based on the evidence the most likely explanation was that Adobe's vets had damaged our dog's tail, but still no accountability. We are glad that we decided to proceed with the tail amputation at MedVet Mountain View, where our pet received high quality care from board certified surgeons (Adobe does not employ board certified surgeons, which I was shocked to learn after the fact). read more

I had a deeply disappointing experience at this vet and need to share it to help other pet owners make informed decisions. The doctor visit fee is 160$ but it is unprofessional: When I asked a very basic medical question, the vet openly searched for the answer on Google right in front of me. I understand people cannot remember all details no matter how good they are, but this "in-front-of-me" Google search means "I dare to show I'm empty in this area in front of my customer because I know you cannot do anything to me." It was not only shocking but also felt extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. After the appointment, the vet emailed me a list of follow-up tests. I replied asking for more details, but she never responded (Maybe she thought I wasn't a good, paying customer, but was asking too many questions?). This kind of ghosting is unacceptable, especially when it concerns a pet's health. Same ghosting also happened on the test results: One of the test reports was blank, I followed up via email to ask for clarification, but again, no one responded. Besides, without taking the time to read my pet's medical records and life history, the vet immediately recommended a long list of tests including blood test, urinalysis, X rays and ultrasound. I understand sometimes full tests are necessary, but the tests should be ordered in priority based on the pet's real condition. My experience in Adobe was more like a sales pitch than a thoughtful medical consultation. My cat was taking prescriptions before this visit, and the vet ignored the evidence of platelets and hematocrit improvement, and still insisted on X rays, ultrasound and even marrow testing.But in fact, the prescription works and my cat gets recovered. Pharmacist came up with a no cost workable solution. The container of potassium powder had a very small opening and a short 1/4 tsp spoon. It was difficult to access the spoon to measure the powder for me, and impossible for my larger handed husband Solution: The pharmacist gave me a green pill bottle that I can fill with the K powder plus it fits the spoon. However, the vet gave me a dangerously wrong advice for my hamsters - He says that it's fine to let my two Syrian hamsters free roam together, and it's even fine to house them in the same cage. Our 20-year-old Main Coon cat Leotis received excellent care from Dr. Kwang and the entire staff at Adobe. We brought Leotis in because he wasn't eating or moving around much, which was not characteristic for a guy who was still very active and loved his life. Dr. Kwang discovered that Leotis's lips and ears were a gray color and that his red blood cell count was very low. Any treatment (a blood transfusion) would be very expensive and not long-lasting. I had an emergency today that I didn't see coming. After giving my three cats flea baths this morning, using the same flea shampoo as always, my adopted stray Porthos showed signs of sever sickness. It turns out it wasn't the flea bath at all. She was just very old and it was her time.(I didn't know that at that point.) She was weak, howling, and barely responsive. As I cradled her and tried to get my vet on the phone, she calmed a bit but was breathing oddly with lots of sighs. My vet said to bring her to an ER. I looked up adobe, frantically told them what was happening and they said to bring her right in. I put Porthos in her case quickly and she was limp, but still breathing, still a heart beat. I got there in 5 min. But about 3 blocks away, I couldn't feel her breath anymore with my hand in her case. I ran her in and the staff was ready. We all ran back to the exam room. They took her out, checked for vitals. But she was indeed gone. I broke down. I've loved this animal for over a decade, she was my shadow, and suddenly gone. We talked for a minute after I pulled myself together, and her passing made sense. The staff was incredibly supportive and thoughtful with this person who wasn't a regular patient. They got me a box and blanket for my girl and I left with her to burry her at home. I can't thank the staff enough for how they treated us. They really care for both people and pets. I would have gotten pet insurance but I thought it was just going for a Wellness exam and then my dog had a TINY EAR INFECTION COST ME $500. I'm not even kidding. And they refused to call in or fax my flea medication prescription to Pet Meds online that was half the price of their pharmacy. Sadly seems they are only for profit now. As a result of incompetence from Adobe veterinarians our sweet dog, Suzie had to be euthanized, she was only eight years old. Suzie had been having diarrhea for about two weeks before we took her to Adobe for a checkup on May 30. They gave her a cursory checkup and took a non fasting blood test. (it should have been after fasting as some of the results might have been different). They changed her diet to hills gastro, gave us a prescription for Di-gel and probiotic. On June 6 they did a stool test which tested positive for coccidiosis parasite. They gave us a three dose treatment of ponazuril.. Between then and July 16, the diarrhea persisted and the message from Adobe was to try different diets. On July 16 I insisted that they do another blood test to be sure the parasite was gone. That test came back negative but also showed positive for C. PERF for which they said did not matter as it was below some threshold for diarrhea. and hence did not require treatment. At that time they changed her diet to boiled chicken and rice. On July 23 the diarrhea still continued so we had another visit. At that time we were given a diet of low fat can and ground boiled pork and a seven day prescription of metronidazole and more probiotic. The diarrhea still continued and we lost all confidence in Adobe and made an appointment with West Valley Pet Clinic for July 31. After a very short exam a very large lump was noticed on her abdomen . An x-ray, a Nu cancer screen, and an ultrasound revealed a diagnosis of Lymphoid proliferation and inflammatory cells and intestinal masses. The chemo therapy had too many potential side effects and problematic results so we decided not to put her through this and had her euthanized on July 13, at only 8 years old. Adobe made many mistakes during their treatment cycle. The focus was on prescribing various medication and dietary changes. There never was an effort to determine the root cause which, as it turned out, was Lymphoma cancer. Had this cause been detected earlier a therapy might have saved her. AS I SAID ABOVE, THE INCOMPETANCE OF ADOBE VETENARIANS LED TO THE DEATH OF OUR SWEET SUZIE. read more

We took our previous two cats to Adobe for years, and they were great. But as so many others mention here, they're under new ownership now and they're obviously all about making money. We took our cat there because she was as skinny as a rail despite having to feed her six or seven times a day. They assigned us to Dr. Quan. On the first visit, they gave a whole barrage of blood tests and it cost us over $700. But we were OK with that because we wanted the first exam to be thorough. They found she had an overactive thyroid gland and prescribed a medicine for it, and prescribed another medicine for an apparent liver problem. After several weeks she showed no improvement so we had to take her back for more testing. That cost us another $560. Still no improvement. We called our vet again. She was busy in surgery that day and didn't return our call until the next day. She said her numbers were fine. Another few weeks passed and I still have to feed the cat six or seven times a day. We called the vet again. This time she wouldn't return our call, but had her assistant do so. The assistant told us if the cat's health doesn't improve we should take her in for an ultrasound For more money. They've lost us. We won't take our cats to a vet who won't even return our calls, and I think I understand why. There is a pharmacy in house which is convenient for filling prescriptions. They also have dental cleaning services, but you need to have a well dog visit to be cleared for making appointment with their dental team. Usually the dental services book a couple months out I took off a star because their price point is on the pricier side and their dental team was s booking 4-5 months out. Liquid gabapentin ($50) and other drugs for pain was almost 4x the cost compared to Costco ($12). Yes, Costco will fill your vet prescription. 2. I inherited my late father's dog, and she was experiencing mouth pain, I paid for a full work up. I was charged $400 for my 11 pound dog AND the Adobe team cleared her for surgery. Adobe never disclosed their surgical LIMITATIONS, such as their inability to proceed with surgery if the animal has severe bone decay and/or a broken jaw bone. I only learned this later. This should have been disclosed by the staff prior to her pre-op surgery day. Instead, she underwent another sedation, catheterized, only to receive a call from the surgeon stating the x-ray revealed a broken jaw that was now calcified and that Adobe is not qualified to perform the surgery. 3. The surgeon said that SAGE, another treatment center is better equipped to handle this and that she would try and get her in ASAP... WHAT? I thought I was paying top dollar and it turned out they could not safely perform her surgery. I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE DISCLOSED THIS, BUT CHOSE NOT TO. I would have circumvented the Adobe experience completely and avoided the additional trama for my dog and the charge of $1,200 for putting her through this pre-op agony. 4. I was stunned, disappointed and broke! Very expensive hospital with mediocre care! Even though you pay like 3K on procedures, if they see your cat in 2 days to check, they charge you 130$ for exam. We went for a wellness check with our 10yo Chihuahua/poodle mix Luna. All looked good except her teeth and she needed her shots, It took 2 people to restrain a 10lb dog, she was writhing around and hurt her back just getting 2 shots, she was poked at least 10 times to get this done. We were then quoted $4700 to put her under anesthesia, ex-rays, blood work, $per extraction, etc. We were devastated being 2 seniors on a very limited income but they just said shop around and maybe you can find a cheaper price. We then spent several weeks researching/agonizing over our options and sadly there is literally no Vet with good Yelp reviews. Just by chance a friend said that she had taken her cats to a woman who comes up from LA to do just dentals for dogs and cats, no anthstesia, not a vet, no extractions. her Yelp reviews were fantastic and Luna's teeth now look absolutely perfect!! $300!!! Sorry Adobe you do not have my pets best interest above $$. We love our vet Sharon but I am really upset that people are not even told about this procedure, why? Because they are not licensed vets. You should get your staff trained on this procedure and learn how to better handle these situations. Adobe was the best in the Bay Area in the early 2000s. Dr Roos, Dr Berg, Dr Johnson, Dr Maxwell, Dr Koga, Dr Blackwolf, etc all made that clinic amazing back in the day. However, when private equity (Paul) took over and it was no longer veterinarian owned, the quality and compassion deteriorated. I took my dog in for an emergency. I was told they would run labs and a vet would call me back the next day. Nobody called. After my third attempt calling them, I spoke to the manager, Cindy, who was unapologetic and rude. Rather than getting the on-call vet on the phone to review the labs, she sent me (the client), the labs to review and interpret on my own. I subsequently got transferred to Paul (business side owner) who was even worse--unkind, unsympathetic, and unprofessional. Due to the fact my dog was suffering, I was forced to make the decision to euthanize without a vet to guide me in the treatment options or recommendations. It was awful. It was malpractice. The original vet I saw during the emergency visit heard about the situation and did call a few days later. She apologized and said the oncall vet was not given proper sign out to call me. The Lengthier Part: I understand that emergency visits can cause a back up or delay, so that part is whatevs. I was quiet until the 1.5HR mark, but it seems we came during a sudden rush. This female veterinarian was very nice, but the moment she said MOMO was a nice cat, I was suspicious. Momo is a fighter, and that is why he's a frequent flyer at Adobe. For example, he once had a foxtail stuck in his nose and required double the dose for sedation. We were here because the evening before, Momo came running in licking his LEFT front paw. We could see he was limping, which he never does. He wouldn't let us touch his LEFT paw/arm either. Wednesday comes around and we decide maybe a vet visit would be good. His LEFT arm looks a bit fat and he's still limping. We were gonna trim his nails before the vet, which he normally is cool with, but yelped when we did... The vet at Adobe calls us after examining him, decides there is nothing wrong with him, he looks fine, isn't showing any signs of pain or limping, was it maybe the RIGHT front paw?? I just facepalmed. I can't even be mad because it gets us no where. It's such a hit or miss here. We're either gonna request Dr. Nakamura from now on, or go to a private clinic. $245 for a "vet" to completely miss the limping on his LEFT front paw. Dead. A lot of waiting and money wasted here. They have provided a laundry list of other animal hospitals with no assistance in getting our cat transferred. I've always stuck with Adobe thinking they would be there when needed in an emergency. Now, I need to rethink what's best (i.e. there are cheaper alternatives for routine care and if Adobe isn't there for emergencies, why pay more for routine care). PS: This review might not matter to Adobe as they are not accepting (since early Covid) new customers. we took our 16 yo dog to be put to sleep. I called to inquire about euthanasia services and was surprised to learn that no appointment was needed. We brought our dog in and a vet examined him to verify his condition. They directed us to a special room with tissues, a guestbook, and brochures about dealing with bereavement. A vet explained the process: what to expect, what they would do, and what drugs they would use, and anything else we wanted to know. We were given the option to have the ashes returned to us in an urn. When we were ready, the vet administered the drugs and left. We said our goodbyes privately in the room. I probably stayed 15 minutes after he passed. We left the room through a door that leads directly outside and into the parking lot, with no further interaction with the staff. The bill came several days later by email. My 500th review and no better place to review than this gem of a pet hospital. Bear with me, this will be a long one. Although Adobe wasn't my pet's primary hospital, being a caregiver for a geriatric pet meant I frequently had to make emergency trips here. Every time I went there, my pet and I were treated with the utmost care. The staff go beyond their way of being nice and comforting. It is an open hospital, meaning you get to be with your pet when treatments are performed, which is comforting. There was this one time when I had to keep my pup overnight and they charged an amount based on expected cost, not actuals, as the treatment would depend on results. However, the next morning, when I checked out, they mentioned they'd be refunding the amount as she didn't need the additional treatment. It was refreshing to know there were hospitals like this in this day and age. (Skip the next 2 sections if you are sensitive.) They were also empathetic when they had to break the news to us that it was time to let our dear pet go. I remember the doctor cried while delivering the news and walked us through the entire process, including options for cremation. On the day of the appointment, they took special care of us. We were sent to the quiet room. We were never rushed in any way. The room had a couch and some treats. I really liked the fact that they had treats in there. Right after they gave her the sedative, we gave our dear beagle one of the treats that she munched on before she started sleeping. I feel content knowing that perhaps the last memory of my food-loving beagle was snacking on that treat. (I won't detail the whole procedure as it's available on the website and also in Pablo's review below.) There was an exit door from the room that we were in, which was nice as we were a mess by the end of it. We were also not asked to pay anything that day. A couple of weeks later, we were emailed the bill along with notification of the ashes being ready. A few weeks later, they also sent a sympathy card. I am sure, like any other large organization, there may be good and bad aspects here, but I will forever be grateful for the love, respect, and empathy they showed me and my family during one of the most difficult times of our lives. read more

They refused to see me because they said I have an outstanding balance. When I called the number they gave me, the collections agency said there was no outstanding balance. I know I paid them! They try and fleece you anyway they can! Not bringing my dog here, ever. read more

High end cost for mediocre care. Took our animal in, waited over an hour, tech did evaluations in approx 10 mins, chest X-ray done, vet checked in abt 5 mins and voila, steroids, antibiotic and no diagnosis, "maybe lungs affected" +$850. Today was the first time we visited Adobe in Los Altos with a very sick 16-year-old miniature poodle named Zoey. Our vet thought Zoey needed a blood transfusion and referred us to Adobe because they had the necessary blood "product". After Dr. Zweiter reviewed the blood work results done by our regular vet, and examined Zoey thoroughly, she very clearly explained to us her view of the situation. Zoey was having serious internal bleeding, most likely from stomach or intestines or both. There would likely be tumors or ulcers in those organs causing the bleeding. She was not optimistic of the outcome, and gave us options to consider. She was giving us all this information in a very compassionate and straight forward manner the whole time. When we opted to have an ultrasound on the dog, just to know what's going on before we made the final decision, Dr. Zweitre immediately took us to the ultrasound room and performed the ultrasound exam herself, explaining to us along the way what we were seeing on the screen. It turned out Zoey had inoperable tumors in her stomach, liver and intestines! She had been quite sick for a few days now, she's mostly blind and was suffering from dementia. We decided to let her go with some level of dignity. The doctor arranged to let us sit with Zoey quietly for a few minutes, and let us hold the dog while she gave the shots to euthanize Zoey, explaining to us what medication she was using along the way. Despite the trauma and our sadness for losing our pet, we could not help but be impressed by Dr. Zweiter's professionalism and compassion in handling the whole situation. Thank you, Dr. Zweiter. My baby girl (dog) was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and a gall stone at an emergency hospital. After her release we took her here for treatment and an evaluation because she still did not feel well. We've taken her here a few times. Dr. said he was running a test for 'cushings syndrome'. After $260 for that test, he stated we need to do another test to 'confirm' and verify it really is 'Cushings Syndrome' and that would be about another $300 or so. I did not do the confirmation test, as that should have been done first instead of making it drag on and pay 2x (twice). We took her somewhere else for a 2nd opinion. We had to put her down because she was never diagnosed with Diabetes and went into a Diabetic Ketoacidosis with very low odds of making it. It would have been nice if the doctor had looked for something that is more normal, then a disease which is uncommon, especially in her breed (Chihuahua). Do your own research and be weary... I don't feel this vet is very knowledgeable in his field. read more

I used to love Adobe. I trusted them and felt my animals were getting the best care available. Last September my cat developed IBD. He was vomiting a lot and basically stopped eating, he lost a lot of weight. The vets there recommended an ultrasound, and then they also thought a biopsy was necessary for and enlarged lymph node. This cost $2500, money I didn't have. Meanwhile, the results were "inconclusive" so they didn't want to give him a steroid because that might interfere with diagnosing the "real issue". So he continued to suffer. They proposed a endoscopy estimated at $7500, before treatment. That's when I said NO! I found another vet who is treating his IBD and he is now thriving. Also they told me my other cat needed (very expensive) dental work, which my new vet says is not necessary. Adobe has sold out to an investment group who only cares about profit. They are preying on the emotions of pet owners and laughing all the way to the bank! BEWARE! read more
