I am stingy in review, so I'll put 4.5 round up to 5. I did a thorough research in the area for Korean learning. I have a busy schedule at home and at work so committing to a weekly in-class session on weekends or weeknights is almost impossible. I wouldn't be able to catch up on homework in addition of my business travels. Besides, a lot of local schools are for younger children. For adults, a lot of them are tailored to college enrolled students or business travel. Very few are made for recreational study, and offered in-person classes. 1. Flexibility - zoom classes Luckily, Adroit College offers online zoom classes mix with in-person sessions, which solves half my problems! I can call in zoom anywhere in the world. My quizzes and assignments are handed in online. Most class work and notes are shared in Google classroom. If you miss a class ? there is the zoom recording where you can rewind the dialogue many times! This helps studying in my own time. Flexibility is the key! 2 Focus on fundamental Dr. Koo is a traditional teacher. If you believe most teaching these days says 애 and 에 are the same pronunciation, you will definitely get a different perspective here. Dr.Koo is solid in her knowledge. She is flexible in her teaching but meticulous in her standard. There are many online courses preaching the easy way out, which ignores small differences because people will 'understand'; but I find that knowing the fundamental of words , pronunciations and expansion of some simplified forms of writing, helps expanding my gramma structure and easily pickup new gramma without coerce myself remembering all these rules. They are indeed very systematic if you understand the basic. Thanks to Dr.Koo 3. Friendly , small classes I must admit the progress is rather slow with a bunch of easy-going learners like us. You need to be discipline and review your course every week. Homework is not heavy. Quizzes are take-home style. You work on your own pace which is perfect for my circumstances as a mother of 3. If you are expecting spoon feed highly stressed get it done style, this won't be for you. My classmates ask a lot of questions and so do I. I try to practice a few lines of causal conversation every class randomly to my teacher or classmates. In other Korean schools, you will not have these opportunities.. Their focus is to rush through the curriculum so you get your exam or TOPIK1 soon. Learning is rather secondary in those Korean schools. I find here is friendly and teachers are patience. 4. Anything bad? yes, that's where the .5 is. The school is not as nice as you see in De Anza college. The cultural activities are not as vast as some of other ones. That's mainly due to the smaller enrollment and smaller Korean community here compare to SoCal (Irvine, OC). It is a chicken and egg question. I believe when the reputation grows again , there will be more participants and after class activities will be more fun. I look forward to this day! Overall, I highly recommend Adroit if you truly want to learn Korean differ from traditional schooling. They offer kpop, conversation only, and many special classes fitting for your learning goal. This is not a dry boring school where my kids will deter from learning their mother tongue. Come for a trial class and you'll be the judge ! read more

Their schedule caters to working professionals (ie evening classes) and you'll see a range of motivations - everyone from folks who do business in Korea to those married to Korean spouses, to fans of Korean dramas and K-pop. You'll have a good time learning Hangul here with this eclectic mix of students and teachers. I've only taken one class so far (with Hyewon) and she was excellent. Going above and beyond to bring in resources outside of the text book like restaurant menus and quizzes from other curriculums. I can only say good things about Adroit College. When I found them over a year ago, I had been struggling to keep up with the fast-paced, ever-changing classes of another language school and was giving up. However, the instructors at Adroit have been accommodating, thoughtful and helpful. They really take the time needed to making sure the student understands new concepts before rushing forward. Thanks to them, I did not give up and have since learned so much. Since Adroit only teaches Korean, the student has many more focused opportunities to learn about Korean culture through events around Korean holidays and supplemental courses. Virtual learning was already set up prior to COVID-19 to help those of us who had to travel for work and couldn't be in class in person, so when lockdowns hit, no classes were missed. In fact, more classes were added, such as Korean cooking, TOPIK review and K-Pop Songs, which helped pass time during lockdown tremendously. Overall, my experiences with Adroit College have been nothing but positive. I highly recommend this institution to anyone learning Korean language and culture. read more

I have been attending Adroit college for close to a year and I enjoy learning Korean at the pace the school offers. The teachers are very nice and they work with your learning curve (as mine is very slow). They are flexible and patient. I was lucky enough to join the school prior to a trip to Seoul with their singing ensemble. It was a memorable experience that I will never forget and has made me fall in love with South Korea. The ensemble teacher is very talented and she promotes the ensemble in international cities. If you enjoy singing I recommend you join the ensemble! I recommend Adroit college if you are a working professional and prefer a smaller classroom size learning experience. The fees are affordable as well. I studied and finished what De Anza can offer for Korean, and was lost after as I don't know where i can continue my study. I stumbled upon Adroit College online from searching around and decided to give it a shot as it offers many levels. I was put into advanced beginning 2 class after having an interview and evaluated by the school president. The teaching method is bit different from De Anza. There's not a lot of paragraph reading in my class ( they have more dialogue/ role playing), and because of the small class size, I got to practice speaking a lot. I can understand more than I can express myself and and became mute when i actually have to use it! The class encourage me to speak more, be experimental and expressive. You also get to learn many cultural aspect as they host Korean cultural events from time to time. They also have a korean singing ensemble for non-Korean students and I am loving it so far. What's better than singing, and learning the language and culture at the same time? The classes are adult based, so don't feel intimidated to join! I think i will continue studying here until I become fluent :) read more

Outside of taking a language course in high school I never thought I'd be honestly trying to learn a new language after graduating, let alone Korean. If you are here looking to learn Korean. Stay. I don't think you will find better teachers, smaller classes or a better environment to learn in. I think all language course should be taught using the "Adroit College" method. I am beginning the 3rd level session now and enjoying the process very much. The classes are the right size for optimum participation and the pace is great for both the faster and slower paced students. The course material is very good, easy to move through each section, snd there is an accompanying practice app, audio files, and notes for each chapter. My job occasionally prevented me from attending, but a video of the live class for the missed day along with notes is provided. Extremely helpful. There are several Korean restaurants not far from the school, so I made a practice of going there to dine and do last minute study before the session begins . I've been taking Korean classes at Adroit for over two years now -- starting out in the beginning 1 class and progressing to the upper intermediate level. Adroit college is not like those other generic 'learn a language fast' programs (Berlitz, ABC Languages) where they teach 10 languages and serve more like an agency to match teachers/students. The focus here is specifically on the Korean language and culture -- so you really go a lot deeper than just covering textbook material or doing grammar exercises. Here are of the amazing things that Adroit offers: 1) Beginning courses are taught by the school director herself (Dr. Koo). Classes include videos to learn about Korea (the country and its culture) and listening to short clips of Korean music and watching some excerpts of Korean dramas (such as the "Gom Se Mari" song when learning about counters). You learn the Hangul vowel system by doing aerobic stretching with arms in the shapes of the letters, and learn numbers by singing them and playing interactive games (e.g. sam yuk guk). These fun activities are complemented by a textbook and standard listening/conversation exercises, and also by an end-of-semester trip to a local Korean restaurant and/or karaoke bar. 2) On Korean holidays such as seollal (new years) and chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving), Adroit organizes special evening get-togethers. For seollal, we watched a short presentation on the meaning of seollal in Korea, all got to wear traditional Korean costumes (hanboks), learned how to give a traditional bow, and played a Korean stick game called "yutnori". These activities are bonuses in addition to your classes, and are open to all students. 3) There are also many opportunities to further your "Korean experience" outside of standard classes. The school has a Taekwondo program, occasionally offers TOPIK (the Korean TOEFL) review classes or special conversation classes. Dr. Koo once helped organize a traditional Korean 'pansori' music concert at the Santa Clara convention center, and invited all students. Last year, the school organized a "field trip" to Korea for the Cheongju Jikji Festival (Last year I couldn't go so I hope they can do it again this year :)). Adroit college is a truly wonderful place and I'm really proud to be a long-time student here. All of the teachers I've had (Dr. Koo, Yu Seonsaengnim, Kim Seonsaengnim, etc.) have been fantastic. I have been attending the Korean Language and Culture Classes at Adroit College since January, and LOVE it. It's perfect for the working professional since classes are only once a week for three hours. Dr. Koo makes classes fun with songs that she's written to help students learn the language. She also integrates fun games. It's a nice balance of text book work and customization to student's needs (i.e. she teaches us vocabulary that would be useful to us in addition to what's in the text book). Starting with the Beginning 1 class, I was able to read, write, and put together simple sentences in a little over a month. Best Korean language class I've ever taken. I've had other, informal, kroean teachers before, but nothing really stuck and I always found the experience very frustrating. I felt I just wasn't going to ever really get even the basics of Korean. Then I had a chance to take a class through Adroit. Dr. Koo is a wonderful teacher, she made it fun and easy to learn the basics of Korean. She is very patient and has a knack for breaking down things that can be hard for american ears to take in, in ways I could actually hear and repeat and comprehend. I only wish I had more time to continue! i have been attending Adroit College for almost 3 months now and i absolutely love it. the first 3 meetings we had, i have learned how to read (tho not as fast yet and i still have to work on understanding what the words mean :) ) and write the korean language. I've tried other ways of learning korean like learning it from Rosetta Stone but i didn't really understand all of what i've learned until i enrolled in Adroit College. Dr. Koo makes it easy to undertand the lessons and she is very knowledgeable of what she teaches. She uses other methods like songs and rhymes to make it easy for us to understand the lessons. I've just started taking classes here and can't be more pleased with my choice. I literally looked them up hours before the start of the first class for Winter quarter, called and talked to Dr. Koo and sent in the registration form, and went to class that same evening! The Milpitas campus has the most students, my class has about 10 ppl, while the San Leandro and Palo Alto locations only have a few students each. For this reason, Milpitas campus gets a 3 hour class while the others only get 2. Dr. Koo is very talented as a teacher, she establishes rapport with the students very quickly and has lessons planned out to the last detail. Classes typically start with a short video on some aspect of Korean culture (ceremonies, arts, house architecture, etc), then proceed with learning words and pronunciation. This is one of the nights in my week that I look forward to the most, lots of fun and easy way to learn Korean. read more

I have just started taking Beginners' Korean with Dr. Koo at Adroit College. She has designed this class for working adults with an emphasis on doing most of the work during class. The class size is small guaranteeing individual attention from the teacher. She works hard to get everyone to participate, using songs and journal writing as a means of getting people to express themselves in a foreign language. Highly recommended to learn korean in Adroit college! I have attended 3 semesters here and learned a lot. Besides, all classmates are mostly young professionals, so it's great to make friends with same interest here. The pace in beginner's 101 and 102 class are slow. But expect a big jump in 103 class. After 103 class, i'm able to carry out a simple conversation with friends. The last class of each semester is to do a presentation in front of all students of all levels. It helps me to review what i learned and wrapped up in a short presentation. I also had chance to see how the advanced level are capable of. All teachers here are very good and patient. read more

After watching way too many Korean dramas and variety shows, decided to learn the language. Adroit College seemed to be best suited due to the convenient location at Milpitas. On the very first day of the class within about 2 hours we already knew basic reading/ writing. Have taken classes for 1 year now and will go back next quarter for Advanced Beginning 2. All the teachers are very friendly and helpful. Plus there are additional events like Kimchi making, watching Korean movies in theatres, celebrating New Year etc. Plus after class we all go out to Korean restaurants for dinner. Adroit College is amazing. For months I had been looking for a place to take lessons in the Bay Area. Finally I found this place and I'm SOOOO glad I have. :D Only four weeks into this class, I've memorized the entire alphabet and we've just learned sentence structure and particles. Dr. Koo is always willing to make sure you get extra help if you need it. They just added a conversation class for all levels too, so I am excited to take that along with the next level of Korean.
