I have been an ADT customer since 2013, but my recent experience with an equipment upgrade has been a nightmare. Shortly after the upgrade, the main controller board failed. Despite my home being protected by an APC surge protector and a Ting monitoring system (which confirmed no surges occurred), the first technician insisted a power surge "fried" the board. Ironically, the system came back online just by wiggling a connector. When I requested a second opinion, ADT quoted a $59 service fee. However, the second technician informed me mid-job that I would be charged $240 per 30 minutes. I was presented with a bill for nearly $500 to troubleshoot a $170 part. The technician refused to leave my home until I signed the work order. While a manager eventually reduced the bill to $300 "under protest," I felt coerced and price-gouged. After 13 years of loyalty, I am extremely disappointed in this lack of integrity. read more

I got conned into a 5-year contract because I thought I was financing the equipment, not committing to five years of monitoring. Granted, I should have been more careful, but when I called to cancel after 3 years and said I'd gladly pay for the balance of the equipment, but was no longer in need of monitoring since it didn't seem to work with our wifi and the beeps were always going off in the middle of the night. I said the system was causing me great distress because I never knew when a wifi-error would occur and it was usually when we were sleeping. BEEP BEEP BEEP! Enough to drive you crazy. Beeps trigger me and they could have been more sympathetic, but just kept telling me I had two more years on my contract. Yes, you can reboot, etc. etc but I never had any issues in 20 years with Vector Security at my old house. I tried several times to talk to representatives. Finally after going through two layers of employees with a promise to finally talk to someone who could handle this matter, I gave them my availability to talk and no one ever bothered to call. They just DON'T CARE! All they want is your money, money, money! I will never deal with this company again since I was a three year customer and they could not see a way to cancel my monitoring fee, despite me no longer using their service! Highway robbery. ADT IS A SCAM COMPANY. My system stopped working and I called to let them know so so could have it fixed. Unfortunately for me I was placed on hold forever. When I finally got thru to them they told me I had two options. They would send a repairman and I would have to pa y it they would send me a new part and I would have to connect it myself while their technician would walk me thru. That did not work. I connected the device as instructed by a very "impatient" tech. The screen lit up then it just went out. He kept telling me to retry. I told him that the screen was dim and then went dark. Well month later after I came home from three months out of town still being charged with no service I called and a tech came out. He explained to me that the replacement part ( fuse) was the wrong one and it and I quote fried the system. He advised me to call ADT and request was new system. He said it needed to be replaced. I called and after waiting yet again for 45 mins. On the phone I got some one who said she would look into the matter and call me back. She never did. After that I called several times to inform them that I did not want ADT any longer and to stop billing me. They continued to bill me by debiting my account. Mind you I am a senior on a fixed income. This went on for two years with me calling and them placing me on long holds. I sent them a cease and desist email. They continued to bill me. I complained to my bank and thankfully they no longer accepted their autopay request at my insistence. Several months have gone by and guess what. ADT has had the nerve to send me a bill saying that I am late paying them. I am livid. No service and still being billed. Has anyone else had this problem? read more

ADT Security Services is a scam/con company. I signed a 2 years contract for $65.99/month. After 1year and 4 months they started billing me $70.82 without my consent. I figured that at that pointed they have effectively voided the contracted so I told them I was not going to pay the $70.82 and asked them to cancel the service. Now, my camera offline 90% of the time during the service. I had the technician come out to fix whatever issue it was 3 times; until he told me that if I called him again he was going to charge me for coming out. I decided to just keep paying ADT because I signed a contract; that is until they started billing me $70.82. I signed up and had service installed less than a month ago. I chose ADT because their price includes a tech to set up your system. A couple weeks later I needed help signing into my ADT account since I started getting services. Still no help. A couple days ago, my outside cameras stopped working with my current home internet. After numerous phone calls and hours spent on the phone yesterday, an agent set me up with a virtual phone appointment with a tech. He/she was supposed to call btn 3:30-4:00pm. Beware if you want to cancel. ADT has a 30-day cancelation period. My fault for not reading the contract thoroughly although I've asked twice for the contract to confirm and have not received it. I am unable to access it online because my account is canceled. So - instead of 6 weeks' refund, I'm getting $27 because we paid 3 months' fees at a time. We were customers for 18 years & ADT wanted full price to upgrade our system. So we canceled & went with another company for 1/2 the monitoring price. Very happy with the new company. read more

ZERO WOULD BE BEST BUT ONCE AGAIN I HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE. This is the third review for an ongoing problem. On 8/20/24 I tried to disarm the system via the panel. The first thing I noticed was the date on the panel wasn't 8/0/24. It actually said 8/10/24 6:06p and still does. I can't use the panel manually at all. I can only arm and disarm the system using the key fob. Defected equipment once again. I haven't contact ADT since the first YELP review I posted about the outcome of my issues that started in April of this year. So frustrating to call them. I rarely end up feeling I have resolved my issues with them or appreciated as a customer. So I will call when I'm feeling calm. Horrible service Simeon the service tech was a snake. He added $3000 worth of equipment that I did not request. The service goes in and out. When I request the service tech to come out to check. I receive the Worse most Horrifying experience from ADT on November 23, 2021. The tech that came out had no knowledge for his appointment. He just sat on my couch for close to 2 hours wasting time. He spend well over 7 hours in our home. Past dinner time. Worst experience ever. Hopefully someone from ADT will have the decency to respond to my message. There's never a Supervisor available to help a Customer. I was transferred 7 times until finally I was able to speak to someone who know her job and to enlighten the Tech as to what to do. Absolutely the worst customer experience I've ever had. The salesperson lied to our faces, tried to get us to sign a contract that had terms that they explicitly said were not in the contract, and charged us for a system we did not want or agree upon that was extremely excessive for our property. The salesperson was dishonest at every turn. We tried to get in contact with the office a multitude of times, and our calls were ignored for hours. We finally were able to contact the ADT corporate office to cancel within the contractually stipulated three day window to rescind the contract. Only after rescinding the contract, did the DC office ever contact us. The manager was sleazy and dishonest, and it really explained our whole terrible experience. Even after rescinding the contract within the terms, and the entire system being removed from our property, the office still has not processed our refund and has attempted to charge us repeatedly. DO NOT WORK WITH ADT. I'm in contact with the DC Office of the Attorney General, Office of Consumer Protection regarding the fraudulent and deceptive business practices of this office. It's possible that this is a systemic issue with the entire ADT business, but undoubtedly this office is rotten to the core. read more

I decided to cancel my ADT alarm service. The reason was that the system needs upgrading. When I tried to cancel, their customer service was terrible in handling my call. It takes numerous times to call to and for them to answer. They do not allow cancellation on their website. You must call them and speak to their terrible customer service. The wait times are horrendous and the representatives have no empathy or care for customers! I will not recommend ADT since they appear to make it very hard to get service when you require it and when they do answer, their processes are cumbersome and not customer friendly! I paid $2300 for a barely installed security system. I am now stuck on a two year contract with gadgets falling off my windows and doors. Lovely ADT style, they refuse to send a technician to my house free of charge. I am forced to pay $66 a month and using a ladder for protection. After 20+ years, I decided to cancel ADT since I feel safe with my window security bars and metal security doors. I was told the equipment was mine but when I went to remove the power adapter and the alarm panel, I noticed they were hardwired so I called ADT back to come and at least cut/remove the wires that they installed and they refused. They suggested I call an electrician since their technicians are not electricians! WTH! I told the lady that an ADT technician was the one who did the initial hard wiring! Stay far away from this big box security company! ADT will wrangle you into a contract that no matter how hard you try to be done with continually comes back to haunt you. After your contractual obligation is over and you try to cancel the service you will be directed to 3 different phone numbers that unfortunately are incapable of canceling your service. You will then be charged for the next month even after canceling on the 9th day of the month prior. After calling all of the numbers again during their available hours you will be sent another bill for 12.00 because of an ADT error. Here we go again two more customer service numbers to call. Company is a mess. Hardware failed and the replacement had intermittent failures which caused beeping all night. Resetting of system via panel did not always work. Finally disconnected the system and was told that the rest of the contract had to be paid even though many customer service people said there was no contract. I have never had a worse experience with a company than with ADT. The quick version: they scammed me of nearly $700. The longer version: I had an ADT alarm system for just over a year. The system unfortunately sustained some damage in a storm. I paid for an ADT technician to inspect the system. They told me it would cost around $600-$700 to repair. I decided to cancel my service rather than do the repair. When I called to cancel, ADT offered to pay for the repair in order to keep me as a customer. I accepted the offer, and another technician came out a few days later and did the repair. Weeks later, after the repair was complete, I received a bill for nearly $700. I called ADT to follow up. I was told that the technician determined my system damage was caused by a "natural disaster" and therefore ADT was withdrawing their offer to pay for the repair. In short, ADT told me they would pay for a $700 repair. Then they did the repair, changed their mind about covering the cost, and billed me for it instead. To top it off, they didn't seem in any way sorry about pulling this outrageous bait and switch. Normally in my experience when something like this happens, it's usually a mix up and the company will at least try to make it right. Not ADT. I immediately canceled my service and reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Unless you enjoy getting ripped off, I would strongly encourage you to avoid ever doing business with ADT. read more

I spoke with them on several occasions Their equipment is trash eight times out of 10 when someone's at the door we can't even pull up on our phones their panel keeps giving us error messages and the panels don't work for the cameras outside the one camera that I do have I spoke with them because I've been with them for six months and they have a six months charge back they're telling me that I can't get out of a contract that I didn't know that I had for three years because at the time the person that I spoke with didn't bother to go over the contract with me even if I didn't read the contract you're supposed to go over a contract with a person now they will not let me out of my contract telling me that I have to pay 75% of what's left of the contract they have lost their minds do not deal with this company because they're trash read more

In my case I was paying for the service I didn't get, the system stop working after four moth and to get this fix I have to pay extra money. Because I didn't have maintenance plan on the equipment keep in mine the system is not Brocken or got damaged because of me it just stop working and I have to pay for it addition on the month payment. If you have the $27 plan your system will eventually stop working and you will be asked to pay extra to get the system back on, you will still be paying monthly. They don't have good answer for your question they will say if you need the service back pay more. The system is mad to get Brock sooner and make you pay more money. Why giving excuse and scamming people?? Your review speaks a lot can't be all this people wrong something is wrong with ADT instead of securing peoples home you are scamming and stealing. I don't know where to leave this review, but since I saw the ad, I'll leave it here. I was convinced through some amazing marketing to switch to ADT from Digital Life. And everyone talks about how terrible DL is.... but I never had the issues that I've had with ADT. 1. Door lock- ADT sells outside products (Ring) which are awesome.... but aren't included in ADTs Application. So I see who's ringing my bell, have to close that app, and log into my ADT app in order to unlock my door. If the wifi is bad, this process can take entirely too long. 2. Two days after install, alarms were going off and system errors noted because the batteries on products newly installed were dead. .......maybe fresh batteries for new installs would be helpful. Meanwhile, I had to find the 3V batteries, and in addition to the alarm beeping every 5 minutes throughout the night, I had ADT calling during the day to tell me about a problem I called them about! Grrr!!!!! 3. On more than one occasion- I've had the system for a month- my system has not been operable or controllable through the app, and when I call, they need me to go home and reboot. I ask my contract buy out amount, and was told over 1K. ADT, you all should be better than this, and I am disappointed. read more

I received an email for a free bookshelf camera upgrade for renewing with ADT, which I had been with for over 10 years; since I had two non-infrared cameras I jumped on it and I also inquired about adding two external cameras . The ADT rep advised that external camera's would have to be drilled thru our brick which we didn't want, so we contacted RING.COM who has "Pop-up cameras," which don't require drilling thru brick, so we thought this was a better option. So we took the two bookshelf cameras and cancelled the external camera order. We then received a bill from Ring.com for $175 for the two cameras after we contacted Ring. ADT then billed us for $175 also. We paid both, then realized it was possibly a double bill, for the same service, so we contacted ADT and Ring on a 3-way call. Ring said explained they were operating independently and not as a third party w/ ADT, so the ADT rep advised us to dispute the $175.02 with them, which we did, and they credited the $175 back, but 3 weeks later they took the $175 from us and we disputed and when we did, it was explained that the $175 was for the two complimentary bookshelf infrared cameras the rep handed me to plug in. I then called back to ADT and the customer service rep and explained that we received two different stories and free upgrade should not cost $175. The rep said, this should probably go thru the loyalty program, the loyalty program rep advised me to contact the local store, the local store advised me to contact the sales person, which I was unable to do, so I went back to customer service and they said contact Ring.com. This is totally UNSAT and ADT is completely giving me the run around and although we have been customers for 10+ years, we think we will leave the company and go with another security service and advise our friends and family to maybe do the same based on our experience. read more

OK, I know this seems to be flying in the face of many other reviews, but I feel compelled to jump in to review ADT. We have been a customer for 13 years and been consistently pleased with the service. I will grant there are less expensive options out there, but we have gotten consistent high quality. One thing I'm aware of is that you have to be careful if you're dealing directly with corporate ADT or a 'reseller' / 'distrubutor'. There are authorized partners allowed to use the ADT symbol and sell installation services, with ADT then doing monitoring. It is possible you get over sold or have issues this route. From our first installation through servicing we've been dealing with corporate ADT directly 800-ADT-ASAP. Our home was pre-wired for service and we had some extra features added. The monthly monitoring has been consistent, and our price each month includes repair service. We've had them out over time to fix things, or replace old smoke detectors and they have always done it at no additional charge, and we've been able to schedule repair appointments same day or next day which is reassuring if you have an issue. They do try to creep up the monitoring fee over time and we've called since we are no longer under a contract, and pushed back saying we would not accept an increase and they will generally hold the cost steady. We have not signed up for the web enabled services. I'm old school, feel it is harder to hack closed loop systems. Since we've not had any quality of service issues, I'm giving 5 stars. read more
