They have an AI phone system that doesn't work and you cannot be transferred to a person. After several attempts I went in person to schedule my visit. I had X-rays and an MRI, but they took new x-rays. I'm assuming to bill me more. $160, with insurance, to be told my knee should heal in a few months. I will not be retuning to this group. read more

My first steroids injections went alright but 8 months later when I went back, I had a terrible reaction ! I went into a fib and had to be admitted into the hospital. I called the office to tell them what had happened a NO ONE ever called to discuss or return my call. I ended up staying 5 days and my cardiologist AND electrophysiologist both said that they have had people with the same reaction even though it was my second series of shots. When I called Medicare to speak to an advocate, they in return called the office and spoke with Elizabeth!! The advocate said she was extremely rude and disrespectful !! i have never been so disrespected and made to feel terrible. I also missed my Son's Military graduation and a week of staying with him after he had been gone for a year !!This has been the most Heartbreaking experience I have EVER had !!!! read more

I had a medical emergency and scheduled a visit with this office but the day of my appointment, luckily before I left my house they called to ask more about my emergency. Then proceeded to say they can't help me and cancelled my appointment for no valid reason even though I had waited over a week to see them. Wasted my time and impacted my health. read more

I just do not understand my loss of my favorite doctor of all Reise. His compassion and day to day is lost. He's busy and way overworked I know having missed my last appointment after waiting 1.5 hours. THE first time in years he has ever been off. Only reason I stayed is because I cram all of my monthly doctor visits in one day. Realize tough patient yet they do no know II make all of my appointments around his made ones because I'm comfortable with him and most important to me. I thought most important to my Bone health. That's tuff for a 55 year old to accept his fate is in Reise. I have been told by 3 doctors that my bones are like Chaulk sticks from severe osteo necrosis...Hip disease. DO NOT DO SURGERY? Positive experience with my shoulder, with Dr.Schur. Took xray, explained my problem and gave me a cortisone shot, all within 30 minutes! I was in pain for 8 months with my primary MD. I found Dr Spence to be very kind, and attentive and respectful. He referred to be PT next door, and WOW do they have a gem in Dr. Stephanie! She is so kind, so knowledeable about the human body, she took me from limited movement and severe pain to moderate movement and no pain in 6 weeks. I was having severe back pain and was virtually immobile. I made an appointment with Dr. Lee and he saw me quickly, which I much appreciated. He did a brief exam and did an injection to my hips. The problem, as shown in the MRI that I provided, is stenosis. He stated that the injection probably would not help - it did not. He scheduled me for physical therapy with HIS Group, rejecting the PT that I had used for years. My PT was the one who suspected spinal cord problems and arranged through my Internist for the MRI - he is rated one of the best in the area. I made a follow-up appointment for several weeks later, the first available. I arrived on time. After 30 minutes, I asked the receptionist when I would be seen. She informed me that Lee was with a patient and two more were in line before me. This would have made the total wait time two hours and I had another appointment. Lee's PT saw me and, as expected, said that I was not a candidate for PT - I knew this from my own research. I tried to make another appointment with Lee to get an injection to block the pain - I was again immobile. His office told me that I could not get that treatment until I had another consult with him as I had not seen him in that calendar year though my previous appointment was two months prior. These people are the worst - they practice money not medicine, IMHO. I gave up on them and went to Lee Health and was advised that my condition would not likely benefit from injection or PT and that surgery was the best option. I had the surgery and now am on my way to recovery. Avoid these quacks. read more

First of all their phone system is awful. Secondly, I called on a Monday with a broken wrist. They told me I had to wait till Friday for an appointment for a cast! That is totally unacceptable. I am not even a new patient. I called and got an appointment with a hand specialist in town the same day. Needless to say, I will travel out of town for all my orthopedic needs from here on out. I was being called by my last name and corrected the girl and she still called me by my last name. NOT BY A MISTER first but by my last name which I told her I felt was very rude. I was to see this same doctor a few years ago and when I finally got to see DR. Stchur he was 2 hours late in seeing me for my appointment. Then he said I needed an MRI which have on property but was a 2 month wait due to snowbirds being down. We would receive a call the end of the day on Friday which never happened and she assured us that someone to call us and it should not be a problem getting an appointment there was a confirmed fracture. Two separate appointments in 2021 with Dr Lee James: (1) First appt I waited approx 15 minutes in check in area, then brought to an exam room by tech. It is here that I was left alone for one hour before I left the room and told the tech to call me later to reschedule. (2) Second appt, which was and is my last, I checked in with the front desk and waited one full hour without being called back to an exam room. Not one employee said anything to me about doctor running late, any emergency in the office, did I want to reschedule. I have never met Dr Lee James, but his office practice and management are the worst I've ever witnessed. There are maybe four doctors at this practice that are worth seeing, Doctors James, Gebauer, Reiss, and Schur. Otherwise, stay away! The front desk people like to blame the phone system for not being able to get through. If you are trying to get in because you are in pain they do not have a list to fill cancelations. You have to call every day to ask them if they have any. Now the phone system puts you in waiting, asks if you want to leave a message for a callback, and if you don't it says goodbye and hangs up on you. I have been going to this practice for a few years and it is just getting worse. Stay away from AOC. read more

My husband and I have dealt with advanced orthopedics for several years . Doctors Anthony, James, and Weiss, are all exceptional positions. My husband had a complete hip replacement from Dr. Weiss and is having excellent results within six months. Dr. James is a pain management specialist ended and has helped me endlessly. Dr. Anthony also assist me with pain management of a foot injury. In most cases they have not mentioned surgery until a last resort. We appreciate them tremendously and recommend them fully. They are very busy, So difficult to get an initial consultation. Still recommend, they are that good read more

Unfortunately, I did not have an overall good experience with Advanced Orthopedic Center (AOC) in Port Charlotte, FL. I will start with the ending of my story and work backwards. I am post-surgery (total knee replacement) about 2 1/2 months, and I received a statement from AOC for $600. This was surprising to me, as I had met my out of pocket deductible and should have no expenses due. I called my insurance company to inquire about the bill and they told me they would need a peer-to-peer call with my provider to explain why he chose to use an assisted robotic arm for my procedure, explaining why it was medically necessary. With an acceptable explanation, the insurance rep said they would cover the expense. That seemed fair, so I called to relay the message to a rep with AOC, asking to have my provider call my insurance company (on a special peer-to-peer line). The billing agent with AOC called me the next day, however, and said my provider decided NOT to call the insurance company on my behalf. "What?" I asked. "Why won't he call on his patient's behalf?" The billing agent said that he claimed to have told me prior to the procedure that this part of the procedure might not be covered by insurance - which was UNTRUE. Yes, he told me that because I was on the younger side of getting a knee replacement that he preferred to use the robotic arm. However, there was no discussion regarding insurance; otherwise, I would have checked with my carrier to confirm the expense prior to surgery, as I did with the many other surgery-related fees. If there is no medical necessity that my provider can give to using the robotic arm, then why was it used? Is my provider getting a kick back from the robotic arm company? Was my knee replacement used as an experiment? Was my knee replacement necessary at all? I now have many more questions!! My next concern with this provider is his horrible nurse (emphasis on "horrible")! The Friday before my surgery (scheduled for the following Monday), I still had not received all the prescriptions needed for post-surgery. I called the nurse several times that week, as I was concerned and did not want to be without my prescribed meds. When I talked to her on Friday and let her know I still had not received all the prescriptions and asked what I should do, she told me very rudely, "I don't know what you're going to do, but I can't keep calling your pharmacy - you are not the only patient." Shocked, to say the least, I hung up. Fortunately, I received a notification on Saturday that my meds were filled, so she did find time to do her job after all. To continue the nightmare, a few weeks post-surgery, a home health nurse (not affiliated with AOC) was at my house to check on me. She called the horrible nurse at AOC to ask a question on my behalf (letting her know she was on speakerphone), and the horrible nurse berated me. The home health nurse was appalled and apologized that I was treated so poorly. I told her that is the way this horrible nurse had been since the beginning. I called AOC and expressed my concerns about the horrible nurse to the office manager (and asked her to bring my concern to the clinic director). She said she would (but I do not think she did) and she told me to bypass the horrible nurse in the future with any requests and go directly to her with questions. I will be looking for another ortho doctor to continue my post-surgery treatment. I am very disappointed, as I also work in the medical industry and cannot believe the way AOC treats their patients. Do not go to Advanced Orthopedic Center for your surgical needs! I would hate for you to have a similar experience - or worse!! read more

I am a patient of Advanced Orthopedic in Port Charlotte. After an initial visit it was decided a followup visit would be required. I was to receive notice as to when the followup procedure could be performed. After a month of hearing nothing I began to contact AO for an update. Their message center states they will respond to calls within 24 hours. I have now been leaving repeated messages (no one answers the phone) for about two weeks with no response. I even left a message about filing a complaint and still got no response. In the meantime I had recommended AO to a friend needing to see an Orthopedic Doctor. That person after days of calling AO and leaving messages with NO response moved on to another service provider. I will also seek another service provider and will no longer recommend AO to others. To this date I have received NO followup calls from Advanced Orthopedic and no longer expect to hear from them. read more

They lie about why you are waiting so long for injections. They Say it's the insurance company, but it's not. I called my insurance company and they had nothing from them. They make us wait seven weeks between injections. When I got my first injection I went to Punta Gorda and she just did a general injection which did absolutely nothing. I was then scheduled in Port Charlotte and the first one he gave me Made it a little better and the second one did absolutely nothing. So I had three injections and that's all you're allowed to have in the first one was complete waste of time and I can't get a third one from Dr. Lee James. The waiting room was jam packed with people who are in pain and we were all talking about how they lied about how they're waiting for the insurance companies to OK our injections. They over book and give poor quality to their patients. read more

the doctors may be good here, but the management is Horrible. They will not call you back, they don't process requests in a timely manner and treat their customers like C**p. Once you've seen the actual doctor, there is no follow up to address questions or concerns. Other then looking at reviews, you can't contact anyone. You leave voice meassages and don't get any call back despite calling numerous times. If you stop by the office, the folks behind the window, don't know anything, just process forms. They claimed that my insurance didn't cover the procedure for hip replacement , yet when checking with my insurance, they have no record of the doctors office asking for pre-approval. I'm in intense pain and need surgery, yet I can't get answers, and can't contact them. Their is no indication that they care about their patients. Staff personnel there are very mechanical. The owners/managers of this company need to become caring humans and revamp/re-train the support staff. I now have to go out of state to get my surgery. If I could give this practice a zero, I would, and the one star here is strictly for the PA, MaryAnna, to whom I was shuffled when Gebauer determined after a 5-minute exam that my back trouble was not a surgical candidate. She is the only one who actually looked me in the eye and recognized that I was a human being, not just a name, birthdate and diagnosis. As for Gebauer, my one and only visit with him consisted of a quick x-ray, then a quick review and determination that my problem wouldn't be solved by surgery. Boom, he washed his hands of me and out the door he went. I told the nurse I didn't get a chance to put my questions to him, so he opened the door to my exam room, curtly asked, "YES??!" then stood in the threshold holding the door open while I asked my questions. So much for patient privacy or respect. He then abruptly dismissed me. I was referred to physical therapy, where the staff pretty much ignored me while they chatted amongst themselves, about football, drying fruit, whatever. They watched me do the exercises they instructed with little feedback as to whether I was doing them right or not. Three weeks of that, which I practiced diligently at home, with no improvement. A visit to MaryAnna as a follow-up to PT, but my PT notes from the team were not in yet (so what was the point?), then ANOTHER visit after the notes arrived. Ahh, another reason to ping my insurance. A procedure was determined upon, which required test shots to ensure the real procedure would work, then two visits to perform the procedure, once on each side of my back. For each visit, I sat in the waiting room 30 to 45 minutes beyond my appointment time. After taking me back to the procedure room and confirming they had the right person (name, birthdate, diagnosis again), NOT ONE PERSON looked me in the eye, but they asked me multiple times if I had a pacemaker (no, NO, NO! Isn't that in my chart?!) The two final procedures were EXTREMELY painful, reducing me to tears, something I rarely do in a doctor's office. Not even the offer of a tissue from this heartless crowd. The final procedure left me with a numb leg, which they said would go away (one said in 20 minutes, another said in an hour). FOUR HOURS LATER I finally got feeling back in my leg. If you don't mind being treated like cattle, with little or no recognition of your humanity, then by all means visit this center. If you prefer empathy, compassion, concern for your well-being, and a staff that after 6 visits would actually recognize you, you'll need to go elsewhere. read more

I was told I needed shoulder replacement. You'll never suffer from arthitis again. You'll retain 85% to 90 % range of motion. It's an outpatient surgery with follow up physical therapy required. I believed them. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. i AM IN MORE CONSTANT PAIN NOW THAN EVER BEFORE THE SURGERY. iT HAS BEEN TWO YEARS NOW . I complained during my physical therapy visits about the constant pain to deaf ears. Was told jokingly , " no pain no gain ". After one year , I scheduled an appointment with my surgeon because of the pain. I stood in the over crowded and over booked office waiting room for over an hour before walking out. I called and went to see a doctor at Kennedy - White in Sarasota. They took an X-ray and told me the repair appears to be okay and did not have a solution to my pain.
