Third time is a charm, they say, and that's definitely the case with my experience at Advanced Skin Care. I had previously been to two estheticians for my sudden onset of hormonal acne. The first gave me no instructions for home care, which I now know is crazy. The next person took a holistic approach to skin care, which I really was interested in, but skin got SO much worse in the 4 months under her care- it was really unbelievable. The products that she gave me gave me a ton of comedones, which made the texture of my skin so awful. I found Advanced Skin Care online and got two personal recommendations as well, which confirmed for me that I was making the right choice. It took some time to get things under control, but in the 4 months that I've been there, I have gone from grade 4 acne to grade 2 (at my last visit). It's been one month since my last facial, and I have had zero blemishes. I used to have 5-6 blemishes show up every 1-2 days. Ydali is really great! She is the only person I've seen there. I like her no-nonsense, careful approach. My skin is very sensitive and she has given me explicit instructions for incorporating each new product so that my skin could acclimate. She hasn't ever pushed products or services on me, which I really appreciate. Whenever I have had questions in between appointments, I have been able to reach her for help. Best choice I ever donw to my skin was going to this spa. I never have acne until 2 years ago. I tried many products, from high ends to drug store ones, went to many spa but nothing worked. My acne just getting worse and worse. I found this amazing spa on Google and called them right the way. 2 hours later, I showed up and started my amazing skincare journey. I've been coming here on and off for years, but consistently for about 2 years. My esthetician is Susan. She is fantastic. I never had acne growing up, but the stress of life took over and adult acne crept up on me. Susan has cleared up my skin and kept it intact. She works with me on a routine that works best for me, and regularly checks in at each appt to continue my progress/maintenance. Now, both my best friend and I see Susan every 6 weeks. I seriously wish I discovered Advanced Skin Care earlier. I work in health care and wearing a mask for 12+ hours a day, the stress, and lack of sleep really destroyed my skin. I had acne growing up, but never to the extent of wanting to hide my face behind a mask. I went to a lot of dermatologists and saw aestheticians around the city at Rescue Spa, Skin House Facial Bar but none of them were really addressing my acne or teaching me about my skin. Most facials/spas here are only focused on giving you the "experience," minimal extractions, slapping on a mask, massaging your shoulders, providing drinks and I wanted someone to really look at my skin. Previous aestheticians would push me to buy expensive products that did not contain any active ingredient to treat acne. I randomly booked an appointment one day, after searching on Yelp for an acne specialist and I am so glad I did. Ydali did my first facial and started me on a routine for my acne. She's amazing at what she does and I trusted her expertise right away. She taught me about clogging ingredients and adapted the routine to my lifestyle. I have been using the Vivant line for only a month and the changes are really noticeable and fast. I saw Susan for my second facial today and my skin feels so clean and hydrated after the extractions. I love that she is tailoring each session to helping my skin grow. Really not seeing why this place gets such glowing reviews. My facial with Ydali was...adequate ? Well, it began ten minutes late because she was selling products to the previous client. I wasn't in a rush, so that wasn't a huge deal. But strangely, aside from double-checking about allergies and asking about my sunscreen use, there was zero discussion with me. She informed me what she was doing and all, but didn't ask any questions about what my specific skin concerns were. No observations, no skin care routine recommendations (except to use sunscreen), no product recommendations, nothing. It's certainly not because my skin is perfect; I'm in my 40s and got the "age defying facial" because my skin shows, y'know, some signs of aging. The space is nice enough and very clean. The products they use are high-quality, and she did a very thorough job with extractions. But I doubt I'll be back. I intended this facial to be an intro before possibly considering something like microneedling, but eh, they didn't seem interested in cultivating a customer relationship. read more

I received a facial from Alexis and loved it. She took the time to learn about my current skin regimen and answered any questions I had. It has been about two days and my skin has already started to look and feel better. I don't have acne prone skin, but I have dry skin that tends to crack and get red. Since my facial, my skin has felt a lot more nourished and I don't get red throughout the day. I never had to deal with Acne growing up and then all of a sudden i turned 27 and it hit me like a ton of bricks (yay). For the past three years i have been trying different topical regimes to no avail. Mary gave me solid, truthful advice for MY SKIN. i capitalize MY because all her advice was tailored towards me. I did the 45 minutes Acne facial. Before every step Mary told me what product she was using, the benefits of it, and how to care for my skin going forward. samples from the store are $5/each which is great because i need to figure out what works for me just like everyone else does. the place is clean and intimate, which i liked because Mary spends one on one time with you. thank you so much for a great service. i will follow up every 4-6 weeks for great results. i truly believe I'm on the path to great skin again. read more

I Wrote an review a little over a year ago * i must write one again! when i first met Mary my skin was horrible. I had cystic acne on both cheeks, & near my nose. 6 months later my acne was gone & right before my eyes my scars, acne, & blemishes faded too! my skin was FLAWLESS. I then decided i didn't need to see Mary anymore (big mistake). My skin stayed flawless for a good 8 months then overnight i broke out, (cystic acne) This time on my lower cheeks and chin. The three stars are not for my facial services but for the stores inability to schedule and keep appointments. I scheduled an appointment to have an acne stop facial with Mary. She was very knowledgeable and recommended some topical solution that rectified problems I was having with breakouts on my chest. I was so pleased, I made another appointment. I received a call saying Mary had to reschedule. Fine. We rescheduled for the 4th of July. I asked if they were sure that would be a good day, and I was told yes. Of course, I get a call to reschedule and Mary's schedule didn't coincide with mine. So, I scheduled with someone else. I was then called again because of an emergency and they needed to cancel. No accommodations or credits. Just, "we can't see you, how about another date???" One cancellation is acceptable...not three, without some sort of concession. read more

I have always been jealous of people with that flawless, dewy-fresh skin. I have always battled the occasional breakout and now I am staring wrinkles in the face - literally. Their new space is lovely. Relaxing without overdoing the whole contrived Zen thing. They have an array of facials and body treatments to pick from, including microdermabrasions, which is my service of choice. They will analyze your skin and customize what products they use for your personal needs. Even better, their services are AFFORDABLE! I have seen both Mary and Michelle and they were both great. You should go here if you have $70 and an hour to throw away. I had a facial with Stephanie and emphasized how much i wanted extractions. How many did she do? Like 4 and even with these, she didn't remove what was inside. So frustrating to come back home and start finding all these things that i can squeeze out. The point of going to an aesthetician is for someone else to do it for you... Stephanie was good at putting masks on my face.. but that does not make one an aesthetician. Really disappointed and sad about throwing away $ and my saturday afternoon. I can put masks and products on myself at home, I wish i could find someone who takes extractions seriously. Let me begin by saying that for 14 years acne has defined my life. Numerous dermatologists have said that my acne was so severe, they doubt there would be little improvement, unless I opted for heavy antibiotic treatment. I had already tried the normal dosage of antibiotics and abrasive skin creams, which made my stomach turn and skin beam with redness. How was I going to handle the HEAVY stuff? I spent those years trying products (pro-active etc) that were expensive mixed with multiple health kicks (no-dairy = no fun). The end result: no luck. My skin continued to be riddled with cystic acne. I continued to feel severely embarrassed, trying to cover up the red inflammation with expensive anti-clogging makeup. I am only writing this review because I moved and probably won't be back to Philly to get another facial, so I guess I will let you all in on my skincare secret for the past several years. I never told anyone about this place because I didn't want them to snatch up my appointment slots, lol. I have seen several of the estheticians at Affordable skin care and had meh experiences, but Stephanie B is the absolute best esthetician ever. When I was having regular facials with her, my previously problematic skin was looking so good that I was literally getting stopped on the street to be asked how I got my skin to be so "glowy." She is very knowledgeable about all things skin and she really balances talking during a facial and also just letting you relax. Also, if you suffer with hyperpigmentation, I highly recommend Stephanie because she knows the right combo of masks and potions to use during your facial to help alleviate it. I can't complain about a single part of my experience at Affordable Skin Care. I got an acne facial from the owner Mary and a massage. I have acne prone skin but my breakouts are becoming less and less frequent. After my appointment I noticed my skin felt healthier, less greasy and more radiant. Pro's - affordable - used quality products that smelled pleasant - simple,unembellished vibe - the women who provide services here are knowledgeable about the products they use and approach dermatology realistically and holistacally Con's - which aren't really - does not accept credit cards ( I didnt have cash or a check and I wanted to pay this woman immediately for her services!) - may be difficult to schedule a same -day appointment I look forward to have microdermobrasion here in the future. Nice small personal skin specialist. I forgot her name but she's at the front desk and does the routines. My first treatment was the deep extract (acne stop). I've been going to see Mary for years, she knows how to take care of my finicky skin and make it look glowy and amazing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE TAMMI! My BF and I have been going to her for the past 6 months for the Acne Stop Facial. Not only does she do an awesome job, she educates you on how you can better take care of your face. My BF and I workout quite frequently, which caused us to breakout more from all the sweat & stress on our body. Tammi suggested that we should at least rinse our faces with water right after we finish our workout & it has definitely made a difference. I love how Tammi takes the time to try out treatments on herself before recommending it to her clients. Everything that Tammi recommends to you, she has tried, so take her word for it! We have, & the results are awesome! I have gone to Michelle my first time at Affordable Skin Care Salon. She is great too, but provides more of a spa feel and is too gentle with extracting acne. If you prefer spa-like treatment and light acne extractions, I would recommend Michelle. She's great! I just prefer more of an aggressive approach with digging in deep to extract as much out as possible. I highly recommend this place if you're having skin issues! Another hidden gem of fishtown. It has been sitting there on Girard for years now and I just kept on passing it by. My hub and I finally gave it a try. We both got massages (1 1/2 hours) and loved them!! She was very strong and informative.... a little chatty too, but I really didn't mind at all. Oddly, I enjoyed it (which I often don't during a massage). My facial was great too. The owner, Mary, was very knowledgeable about skin care and was very open about her struggles with acne, etc. That really helped me to open up as well and discuss my concerns. This isn't a "la ti da" spa with candle lit rooms, white robes and eucalyptus hanging from the ceilings....which, of course, has its time and place. That said, it is still very relaxing, affordable, to the point, and owned and operated by nice people. So, I met Mary on Friday. I think I kinda like her, but as the two star rating says, I've experienced better facials. Mary was nice, we bonded over a personal experience, which I appreciated, and she seemed to know her shit, but at the same time she was distracted, walking away from the table more than once during extractions and at one point opening the door to flag down and talk to someone in the hallway. As for the treatment itself, I had two facials with extractions done five days apart the first week of December that left no red spots and definitely no scarring, and I felt glowingly beautiful after each, but this treatment has left tiny scars all over my face. She advised me that I probably don't need to moisturize, which is something I've never been told once in 34 years, and a week later, I'm still not sure if I'm ecstatic or disappointed in that suggestion. The acne treatment I purchased might be working, but has my skin on Sahara, so I have been moisturizing anyway. The part that bothered me most was, when her receptionist was unable to schedule me a reduced rate express facial (something like $40 vs $70) within their predetermined two week window (there was only ONE available slot in her busy schedule and it was during my work day), she didn't extend the courtesy of the rate or offer a prorated discount. **note: apparently I wrote this review in January of 2014, which was the first time I saw Mary and never hit submit. Just got my first Acne facial with Susan....thinking to cancel my next appointment and try to return products I've bought. Got home and discovered that I still have so many acne that were right on top of the skin and so easy to exfoliate. The aesthetician didn't even touch the left side on my nose too. So now I have to finish everything by myself. Paying that money, I expect that things that even I can do, would be done. Definitely could do a much better job. read more

Love, love, love this little hidden gem on east of everything Girard Ave. The space is small, but welcoming, the owner/esthetician is really sweet and knowledgeable. She is also using a great line of skincare products and wax that don't make my hypersensitive skin breakout 4 minutes after paying for the service. I went to get a massage here (by Leah) because I was having headaches and tension in my neck and upper back. It was a completely fair massage, but I felt that she could have spent a little more time focusing on my "problem areas." The cost was completely reasonable and she was very nice. They give you a bottle of water before you leave. The downside: cash only! I had no idea and no one told me when I made the appointment. I've since found someone else for massages, who I feel is very attentive and concerned regarding the "underlying issues" of why I have tension in the first place, but if you're just looking for a relaxing massage, this is the place for you. I would like to try out the facials, because everyone speaks so highly of them, but I haven't been able to do that yet. read more

Absolutely loved this place! This was my first time visiting Advanced Skin Care Solutions and I will definitely be back. I had an acne facial with Ydali and she was really wonderful. She first spoke with me about my skin concerns, any products I was currently using, and my skin goals which was great. The facial itself was extremely relaxing, she made sure to inform me what she was doing/what products she was using, and checking if I was experiencing any discomfort. At the end she made a few product suggestions which I appreciated (and actually ended up purchasing one of them.) The best part about this place was it was not pushy at all. I've had a lot of facials where during the process they will try to up-sell additional treatments or services which I find ruins the relaxation nor did they product push when I was checking out. Although I am a guy, I went to Affordable Skin Care for a facial because I'm going to an important event and want to look great. It was a very positive experience, I was attended to by Mary's assistant Michelle and she explained every step of the process. The results were what I was hoping for: my face looks rejuvenated and fresher ... my skin is softer and more radiant. The place is spotlessly clean and decorated in a tasteful and pleasing manner. No, I am not the first male to use their services and they treated me very professionally and with great confidence. The location is in a slightly sketchy part of town, bordering on Fishtown and Kensington ... trendy, up-and-coming but still shabby and urban industrial. Advanced SkinCare is Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamazing in terms of getting you on the right track. I truly had very bad cystic acne. I started using the products recommended by the aesthetician. My skin started to clear up. My skin is a working progress however I'm beginning to see changes. I'm being consistent with my appointments. The facials aren't that expensive as compared to other spas. I would have liked if they offered medi spa treatments as well as facials. Sometimes in order to eradicate acne some need aggressive forms of treatment. Some of the products are expensive however you can purchase all recommendations on line. I come to Affordable Skin Care Salon every other month for a Deep Cleansing Facial with Mary, the owner. I'm a such a huge fan of this place. I noticed a difference in my skin from the first facial, but after getting regular facials for the last year or so I can say definitively that my skin has improved dramatically! Mary offers really good advice about how to care for your skin. Their prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend giving this place a try! I go to Affordable Skin Care on a monthly basis. I can't speak highly enough of the business of the care I get from Stephanie Larrañaga-Burns. I am regularly seen by Stephanie. I can't say how much I value the care I get from her. She is knowledgeable and skilled in her practice. She is caring and concerned about any monthly skin issues I have. I walked in the day before my son's wedding with a huge zit on my face, and she saved the day with the magic of her touch! Not only does she help with obvious extraction needs but she will seek and destroy others with her magnifying equipment. Affordable Skin Care is a Fishtown gem. It is relaxing and professional. They use organic products. As an obsessive clean freak this place has my seal of approval. I always feel like I am getting the deal of a lifetime.
