It's a much smaller clinic than something like Optical Express -- there's only one surgeon, and he gets to know each patient. He's done thousands and thousands of procedures, as he worked at a chain clinic for a while before starting his own business. I got to take as much time as I wanted with the surgeon and staff to ask questions and talk about the procedure and what to expect. They're honest about the risks involved, and they made me feel comfortable with it. It's obvious that they have lots of experience and know how to deal with whatever comes up. After the procedure, the 24-hour, 1-week, and 1-month follow-up visits were all easy and comfortable. I now have 20/12 vision in each eye. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

So I plucked up the courage and went for a free consultation with Ultralase. The consultation went very well and everything was explained to make you feel at ease. There was even a payment plan which helped me spread the payments across the year which helped. I decided upon Ultralase as I knew a friend who had it done there and his eyes had no problems and that was about 7 years ago. I had mine done about 2 years ago and I must say it's something I definitely do not regret and so glad that I did go ahead with it. It's changed my life as now I can wake up and see and not have to worry about going for eye test and spending more money on glasses. The other greatest feeling is that I have perfect 20-20 vision which is amazing. If you are thinking about eye laser surgery then I would highly recommend coming to Ultralase for a consultation. The place was very clean and the reception staff were very courteous and helpful. The consultants she seen were very professional and knowledgeable. Harley Street is renowned for a reputation of offering top medical care and the fact that a chain store such as Optical Express is situated in the heart of Harley Street, this place doesn't dissapoint. You are greeted with warm staff, a homely feel to the place, comfy sofas, a TV and comforting drinks such as hot chocolate to put you at ease. After all, the thought of having laser eye surgery can be a little daunting but those worries are quickly squashed. The staff are informative and perform thorough tests to determine if you are able to have the surgery. My surgeon and the nurse was funny and made it feel like it was a day out rather than an operation. I say operation, it was more like 5 minutes, no pain and then I sat in a darkened, quiet room for a while and it was time to go home! It takes a little while for your eyes to settle but the results are going from having a high prescription, using contacts and glasses to 20/20 vision. I would highly recommend Optical Express as they use the latest technology, after all, if it's good enough for NASA astronauts, it's good enough for you and me. The Harley Street branch is conveniently central and has a home from home feel.

But I find it quite hard to find any that suit me as I have quite a narrow head. However I found 2 pairs within this store that were both so good that I couldn't choose between them. Yaaaay! - The prices are pretty reasonable (my glasses were £120 and £130 before their various discounts...which is more than specsavers, but much less than most of the shops that I've looked at.) - As I decided to take both pairs of glasses, they gave me £50 off one pair *and* free lenses for one of them. The less good part was the service: - No staff helped me at all while I was choosing...but that was okay as I had my husband to help - Once I had decided which glasses I liked, it took soooooo long to input my order into the system. Seriously I have a slow computer at work, but their IT system makes it seem positively whizzy! - To call them you have to phone one of those horrible machine phone voices and choose from lots of options, and then wait a while before they pick up. Urgh. - Once my glasses were ready, I called and told a member of staff that I was walking over to pick them up...he didn't bother to tell me they close early (5:30) on Fridays, so I walked all the way over there to see a locked front door. Thanks. In the end, I managed to buy two really nice pairs of glasses, for £300, including lenses (yaaay!) ...but I don't think this is the best place to come if you want advice from the staff or if you want to buy your specs speedily.

At first, the experience was pleasant and the woman who tested my eyes was friendly but then she begun telling me that I needed glasses to have at home, and I made it clear to her that I didn't want glasses. After the eye test was finished she took me outside in the showroom to another man and she gave him my results and asked him to show me some glasses. I felt really uncomfortable cause I was pretending to having a look at the time that I made it clear to her that I didn't want to buy glasses. Even worse, when I asked to have my results, he told me that I needed to book another appointment that costs £20 to get it. If the terms and conditions on the voucher said that, I wouldn't mind paying the £20 but not like that. I HATE companies that have "offers" with a catch. I will never visit them again. Scam.

They have been rude and dismissive, and only admitted there was a problem after a long battle, but only just after the time lapsed that I could have claimed compensation, meaning I could have seen an eye surgeon that may have been able to help. To add insult to injury, whilst I was complaining about my problems they sent me a spam email saying they'd never had any problems! These people should be shut down, I'm apalled that they can still do this to people, I have since met another person who has also had severe problems, avoid this company at all costs

Yes, definitely…read more I bought a gorgeous and pricy pair of glasses here a couple of years ago and they've taken care of me ever since. £25 for my eye exam, £90 for my lenses (my vision is quite poor).... not gonna tell you how much I spent on my frames... but all taken care of promptly and with a smile. They even helped me no problem when I wanted to order my contacts in the US (they had to send my prescription) rather than through them because it was cheaper. When I broke said expensive frames (that colour was sadly discontinued), they offered to order two pairs of the same frames in different colours so I could try them out. Sure, you can get inexpensive glasses elsewhere, but this is a small, privately owned optometrist that will really take care of your vision... stylishly!

Recently I've upgraded to some new Japanese made lenses which are remarkably crisp and better for reading than my previous lenses. The test equipment is very modern and you can now look at your retina on the Apple display if so inclined. I don't change my glasses very often, but I take the tube here whenever I do or for a routine eye test. Islington is a nice part of town so pop down and have a coffee near the canal next time you visit.
