On a trip back to my hometown, I went on a 12 mile canoe trip down the Fox River. I loved it! I…read morehadn't been down the Fox in many years. Going to Ayers made it super easy. This way, we didn't have to transport any canoes. They took care of that. We made a 10 AM reservation, which gave us time to drive there and stop for breakfast. We were taken on a school bus with just one other family who was also renting canoes. They drove us to the starting point and we canoed back to Ayers. It was simply a beautiful trip! We saw deer, herons, turtles and lots of geese. The rocks on the sides of the river are amazing. There is a picnic area with bathrooms half-way through with bathrooms and then we canoed the rest of the way to Ayers. The only issue we had, was a small leak in the canoe. It wasn't a bid deal, but we did bail waiter one time.

This isn't a hiking place for people who aren't outdoorsy. The trails are not maintained, and it's…read moreabout a mile's walk to even enter the park. If these things don't bother you, then this is an amazing park. From the parking lot, which can hold perhaps half a dozen cars, visitors can trek down a footpath that follows Mitchell's Creek. Once the treeline starts, the trail continues down the creek until it merges with the Tommohawk Creek. Technically, this is the end of the trail. However the woods of the park extend for miles past the end of the trail. There are huge sandstone bluffs, rapids, and several endangered trees in the area. You will not see other people here. One star off for the sound of I80 which can be heard on quiet mornings. Really wouldn't be to hard to build a noise barrier on the bridge if Illinois were so inclined.

There's pretty much nothing besides the river to do or see. Close to a few other small parks around here. It's on the north side of the river. This is accessed from Routes 23 and 71 on the north side of the river, which is kind of tricky to get into. Go through the underpass to get here. This isn't much of a park. Amenities are few. There's a few benches and trees but that's about it mostly. Good place to get some views of the river and chill. It's really nothing that's at all special to be honest. There's almost nothing, even a playground.

Buddy & I were hot to golf today. Everybody was busy…read more Called even though I knew they had a late morning outage scheduled for a fairly big group. Talked to Nate who had extreme kindness and said he would fit us in. We showed up a half hour earlier than scheduled hoping since we were there, we could get our round in , without disrupting the big group whose outing was scheduled. Like I said Nate is a great guy and coordinated with us and make sure there were no problems. We got to finish our round and didnt interfere with the big group coming in. I was so happy we got 18 in, I made sure our cart was super clean upon exiting. Nate is a gr8 guy. Oak Ridge is lucky to have a guy whose so good at customer service. Very pleasant and accommodating gentleman. Ive golfed there before and the course is well maintained, workers are pleasant, and friendly, had lunch there, food and bar service was great! Prices very reasonable. Love this place!

There was about a 20 min wait. It cost $26 for 9 holes. We drove around in a nice golf cart and enjoyed the greens. It is very well manicured and the staff are friendly. Two large bottles of water were $4 total. We looked at the lunch menu afterwards but I did not see any vegetarian or fish items, so we went elsewhere for lunch. The only thing I might have tried would be a salad but I was ravenous and lettuce was not gonna cut it. Overall a beautiful course and husband was happy. Happy husband=happy me.
