After our long search, we couldn't be happier with KELC. The most important characteristic of this provider is the curriculum that begins in the infant room. Our baby came home singing songs, her ABC's, and counting before she moved into the toddler room. She gladly jumps in the arms of her teachers each morning. Our 5 year old is learning to read and write before kindergarten. KELC is on top of early childhood education, and I am incredibly thankful for the effort. The staff have always had a personal relationship with each of our children. They take pictures, send home projects, and have a variety of events throughout the year. This week is Dr. Seuss week. The summer is even more fun! I have always felt the staff are qualified for their roles and are properly coached by the owner to ensure the quality of care is exceptional. I find the structure and routine are valuable. The are offered breakfast for an hour and fifteen minutes every morning, which is such a relief if I'm running late. They have a generous drop off time (10:45!) with the intention of ensuring all children are napping at the scheduled time and not being disruptive. Most importantly, if a child gets sick, they ask you to pick up your child to prevent the spread of illness. I can't imagine how hard it is to keep all the families happy and continue to run a successful child care center. But, your doing great! When contacting the school to discuss concerns I encountered directors and staff that were dismissive, would down play my concerns and who were defensive. My experience was both disheartening, and unsettling. Following investigation into this facility I learned that they are NOT a registered school as lead to believe but instead is licensed under a child card day care facility which in my experience is very much how they operate.

She's always been very quiet and reserved with people so starting school was a hard transition for her but I'm grateful we had MDC. Every step of the way her teachers were nurturing and encouraging, creating an environment where she has thrived. Socially she is still reserved but she has grown immensely. She talks in front of her whole class on sharing days! This from a kid who literally wouldn't speak anyone for the first 6 months. Our family members always comment on how far she's come and how confident she is. If she hadn't been in an environment where she felt safe and allowed to explore things at her own pace I don't think we would have had the level of success we have had with her social issues. Her teachers are extraordinary and she adores them. I have experience with another popular preschool in town and the level of compassion and care from the teachers here at MDC is far above. Academically she's on point, if not ahead. She has a late birthday so, as of now, she's not in kindergarten yet but academically she is at the same level as her friends in Kindergarten at a S/K school out south. At MDC she began reading when she was 4 and now, at 5, she is reading compound words and even some long vowels! She knows all letter sounds, several blends, recognizes sight/cvc words, creates her own story books, writes numbers, counts to 100... but beyond that she's loving learning about other cultures, the world, and art. I'm always impressed by the work she comes home with and things she tells me that she has learned at school. I know she didn't learn that from mom & dad! We plan to continue her education here as long as we can.

The teachers created an environment where learning was exciting and children were encouraged to be curious, creative, and independent. What truly makes Yellow House special is the people. The staff genuinely care about the children and families they serve. Over the years, they celebrated our children's successes, supported us through challenges, and became an important part of our family's story. Once a week they have Japanese culture and language lessons and they grow to love their Japanese teacher. Several times a year they put on programs where all the students sing and dance, learning various cultures, languages, and styles along the way. They offer half day or full day preschool and kindergarten, plus before and after care at a very minimal fee! They do field trips twice a year, and do a craft and show and tell on Fridays. The teachers are supportive, and are always willing to go the extra mile to help the students learn and grow. At Outlook, the parents are always filled in on what is happening with their student. The kids learn how to grow in their faith, but also as a family. They have art classes, wood working, basketball, VBS in the summertime, and days where the kids get to press their own apple cider. The list of activities goes on, and the love that is there at OCS is endless. They are accepting, and only wanting the best for each of the students. (For the high schoolers, there is a prom as well! Last year, they rented a limo, we ate at the rooftop of Basil and Board, did an escape room, and then took pictures on the bridge in downtown Salem).
