I love the Advertiser Gleam. I know of people all over the US that get the Gleam. They love the old time stories and the singular post by local writers from our surroundings communities. I am a daughter of a Commercial Fisherman that was in the Gleam several times. From his 106 lb. Catfish, his 87 lb. Alligator turtle the thte biggest freash water pearl found ,that I know about in Guntersville Lake. But he an imy Mother passed away in 2010, 40 days Apart. But my brothers and nephews and nieces and even grand children and cousins carry on our family traditions. Which is the reason I am writing to you now. When I was growing up in Guntersville, and graduated in 1980 for m Guntersville High. I was Fishing ,swimming , riding my bike, doing everything outside everyday. At that time, at County Park Number 1, we had a beach , a playground, a campground, and swimming with a Pier with diving boards. and tons of sand. A camp ground. It had rides, safe rides. Along with the playground. A tiltty whearl, a train that went all around the park. A ferris wheel. And other rides. Another Pier on the right of the park to fish off. And another place on the left side of the park to fish. It had a big snack bar,with hamburgers ,hotdogs, icecream ,snowcones and always kids had a place to go. All the family. It had a band stand. All kinds of bands came . And anybody that wanted to sing and played music could there. And covered picnic tables. .It was a great place for everyone. It was always kept clean. And away from home, neighborhoods. And anyone driving through Guntersville or in 431 would see it. It gave teens jobs during the Summer. I always worked in the summers, to help with what I wanted. And also adults jobs all year long. I know they have started fixing up the park . I have spoken to a lot of people that remember our old beach. Sometimes by looking back in time , we can bring the old , back better. Just imagine people coming from other states not only for Bass Fishing, ,Ball Tournaments, but to Our Guntersville Beach, Waterslide, and Park. This would bring in all kinds of revenue to all the businesses in and around Guntersville. And possibility businesses for our Industrial Park North of Guntersville, including more jobs. The one and two most important things Guntersville needs the most , Something for kids to do and jobs. Print if you like .
