When I…read morearrived at Gony's, I was extremely despondent, but she emanated such positive energy and was so smart about the way she talked with me, that I left our conversation feeling 'like a new person', like a huge load had been lifted from me. I have continued seeing her at other times and she really has renewed hope in me as I work towards a healthier mindset. (addendum: it made perfect sense that Dr. Armeri recommended Gony; I have similar admiration for him and his unusually caring and information-filled practice.)

I would like to report on a brief interaction I had with Lisa Wolfe. I phoned her in 2013 and asked…read moreher if she had room on her schedule and she said she did not. At the time, I had made over 100 phone calls looking for therapists. However, she phoned me back and said she knew of someone and referred me to another therapist. She spoke highly of him, saying she refers her clients to him all the time. I went to him and he didn't just have room on his schedule...he didn't seem to have any other clients, or not very many. This was a red flag, among other red flags including his repeatedly calling me "Honey." He seemed completely incompetent to treat what was bothering me (eating disorder) and I wondered why Ms Wolfe had heaped so much praise on him, except perhaps they may have been pals of sorts. During my third session with this man, he asked me out on a date. I was terrified! I left the office, not knowing what to do! I also felt devastated that such a thing would happen to me. Of course, I did not accept the date. Who was this man? I waited two days, then, phoned him and told him I didn't want to see him anymore. His last words to me were, "I love you." I was shocked and in a few other ways, saddened. I knew in my heart I needed to report him. But where? I phoned back Ms Wolfe. I felt that she should know that this other therapist that she had referred me to was not only unethical, but he had broken the law in a really, really bad way. Her response? Sadly, very typical. She first said, "Maybe you weren't a good match." I continued to tell Ms. Wolfe that what he had done was illegal. Then she said, rather lamely, "You just weren't ready for his energy therapy." I believe Ms. Wolfe should have encouraged me to go to the police. She should have supported me and at least been as shocked as I was. Instead, she defended what was completely illegal behavior on the part of a colleague. I am saddened that therapists refuse to acknowledge the mistakes and misdeeds of other therapists, and instead, they blame the victim. This runs rampant in the profession; it's disgusting, and it needs to change. Based on this, I would not recommend her to anyone.

I have been seeing Debby for years and have to agree with Jason's assessment. She does really…read morelisten and make the conversation feel just like that, a conversation. It feels like talking to a friend. I am very surprised to see a negative review, especially one that says she is difficult to work with through insurance. A few years ago my insurance couldn't figure out how to pay her properly. As I recall, she saw me for several months without receiving payment from my insurance while they were working out their issues. She also went out of her way to speak with me while I was living out of state and trying to find a new therapist. I have only good things to say about Debby's ability and how easy she is to work with.

I was in a really bad place psychologically, but I was thrilled and hopeful about having a therapist I'd heard such good things about. We made an appointment for the next week and appeared to plan on future treatment. However, when she found out my insurance would only cover 12 visits, she told me she would not see me again, despite my offers to pay her full fee, and that she did not like how my health care services worked. A few minutes later in another phone call, she told the person who referred me that she could not take me on, despite what she had told me at the intake. The two different stories made me feel like I was acting crazy, but I am certain of what I heard and what others reported to me. Of course, it is up to the therapist if she can work with you, but the two different stories and her willingness to plan treatment has left me absolutely baffled as to what was going on. If you are suffering from severe depression, she may not wish to treat you and may not be upfront about that. After this experience, I've given up on therapy and feel even more bereft depressed than ever. I considered this a serious lack of professionalism in her unwillingness to communicate honestly with me, or else her unwillingness to accept my out-of-pocket payment. Be very careful. I'm sure many people have had success with her, but the shame and pain that resulted from this experience for a depressed person was just terrible.
