They are known for their core jujitsu values and competing in tournaments. Professor Kawika & wife Jamie are awesome! They treat you like Ohana! Even the coaches Tammy & Todd! Staff is awesome! What makes Roma stand out from the rest is the family atmosphere for all ages! There's no hot shots in here ! They roll as a family! Prob one of the most cleanest environments too! Currently they are following state and county covid guidelines which means right now classes are limited and no inside spectators. You might be put on a wait list due to demand yet it will be worth the wait! Once you get your spot make sure you hold on to it as we had to be back on the wait list for a few months upon coming back. Hopefully when guidelines are lifted they can allow spectators. Always sanitation & temperature checks upon entering. Took my kids out during the start of covid and finally brought them back as things are slowly getting back to normal. The WODs were well thought out and they were really good about checking in for injuries and scaling. Class size at 8am was perfect and they made sure to pay attention to each and every person. We got a warm welcome on our first day and upon our return. We purchased two t-shirts and they waived our drop in fees, allowing us to drop in for the rest of our trip. They had plenty of equipment to go around and everything was meticulously organized. So grateful to go on vacation and feel like you're working out with your family at home. If we ever move to Hilo, this would definitely be the gym we go to. Until then...we'll be back every time we visit. Mahalo.

My son…read moreand I attend the adult gi classes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6-7:30 p.m., and the no‑gi class on Wednesdays from 6-7:30 p.m., and we are consistently impressed by the quality of instruction and training environment. The facility is a large, clean warehouse space with plenty of mat room, so even bigger classes never feel crowded and everyone can train safely. The atmosphere is easy‑going and welcoming, and over time we've met great people from all walks of life who support each other on and off the mats. Instruction is clear, technical, and safety‑focused, and unsafe behavior gets addressed quickly and appropriately in the adult classes I've attended. The professor and his family are around the gym supporting classes all the time, and they are hardworking, likable people who clearly care about the students and the academy. They've recently added adult morning classes on Tuesdays from 7-8 a.m., and there are often guest clinics and open mats on Saturdays, which makes it easy to find extra training opportunities. The layout of the gym is very parent‑friendly because it's one big open space, parents always have a full view of every training area when kids are on the mats. There are also picnic tables for any family or friends that come to observe classes. The Rio Açaí also sets up on certain days each week which is great for observers or students after class. Overall, Alameda Jiu Jitsu offers a safe, friendly, and high‑quality place to train on the Big Island, and I highly recommend stopping by for a class or joining as a regular member. Just past Keaukaha Elementary and next to Ke Ana La'ahana Charter School. The gym has a nice big parking lot in front of it and is pretty hard to miss, considering pretty much everything around it besides the schools is residential. The gym itself is very nice. A nice wood court, up-to-date rims and backboards, good bleachers, well-lit, and a decent airflow. It's basically all you could hope for when you're looking for a gym around here to hoop in! I realize that that isn't necessarily saying a ton with a lot of the other gyms around here, but still. This place is really nice. I'd definitely recommend trying to ball up here if you get a chance.
