We recently flew into Falconara airport as it was the closest to our destination (family!). Branding itself as the Marches' airport, this is indeed the main airport to fly into when visiting the Marches region, unless you fancy flying into another bigger airport and making a longer trek to your destination.
The airport itself is tiny, probably because it is mostly for tiny commuter type flights from within Europe. This makes it quick to get off the plane and into the gate, to pick up luggage and then exit the airport. There are several different car rental agencies all located in the main entrance hall of the airport, and the carpark is literally right outside.
My main beef with Falconara airport is the lack of direct link to downtown Ancona. There is a train station next to the airport, but it is mainly for commuters and thus of no use if you are travelling outside of peak times or want to connect to a train in Acona (as central station is a good 20 minute drive away). Same thing for the bus service. They do have taxis, so it isn't impossible, just not quite as inexpensive or easy as one might expect from a European city. read more
