I had a very poor experience at Affiliated Dermatology with Dr. Karan Lal from the Scottsdale office and would suggest looking for another clinic. The service was rushed from start to finish; I felt like the provider was halfway out the door before I could even explain my symptoms. Nothing was ever explained correctly. I was not informed that I might need several procedures to resolve my issue. I had to call to express my dissatisfaction with my first, second, and third procedures. They wanted to charge me at first for the repeat procedures. My issue was never actually resolved. Again, I reached out to express my frustration and request a refund, but they were completely unwilling to help or take accountability for the lack of care. They did offer me to continue with the same procedure. If it did not work the three previous times before, why would I consider doing it again? It feels like they prioritize volume over patient outcomes. I will not be returning. read more

I was given diagnosis of carcinoma and a mohs procedure was schedule 7 weeks later . Drs office didn't call insurance for authorization until days before surgery . They cancelled surgery because authorization not in place because dr office neglected to obtain it in a timely fashion . I spent hours trying to obtain authorization unsuccessfully . When it was finally obtained , drs office only had appts months later. . Usual wait time for reaching someone at drs office is over an hour . When I tried to discuss this with dr , he said"I am an employee and have no power ." I would never refer anyone to this practice read more

I got a call today from a surgery coordinator that informed me my husband has squamous cell carcinoma from a biopsy over a year ago. This was the first phone call him or I received regarding this. We were informed he needed a mohs procedure, over a year after the cancer was found. I requested a call back from a physician and an office manager, but did not receive a call. I attempted to call the office, waited on hold for 30 minutes and was unable to reach anyone. I'm going to continue to comment publicly until I receive a call back read more

I tried to get an appointment to deal with an urgent skin growth, and this place refused to allow me to come in as a walk in. They wanted me to book an appointment out several weeks into the future. Really cannot claim to be a Drs office if they cannot handle people who need immediate attention. They are not focused on dermatology but too many other things. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my son to have his wart removed. A very simple procedure. They required a biopsy which I strongly attempted to decline because it was purely a money grab. It was clearly a wart and I didn't need a biopsy. The two people who saw my son were not fully accredited doctors based on the way they treated the wart with liquid nitrogen. They barely sprayed any liquid nitrogen on the wart. After a $500 charge and excuses I still had a wart and a very unhappy son. I do not recommend this business. read more

The dermatologist who attended to my son was a resident the actual doctor never looked at my son. The treatment provided to my son was poor and did not resolved the issue which was the simple wart removal, they charged me $500 to remove the wart. When I confronted them about the fact that my son's wart was never removed they required me to pay additional money to come back and have them complete the service that I already originally paid for in full in cash. This company was purchased by an investment firm and all they care about is money I would never go back here again because they don't know what they're doing because they don't have qualified people servicing their clients. read more

First , Dr Manway I would give 5 stars to. He's very knowledgeable and very nice. It's trying to schedule an appt that scored the 2 stars. They don't answer the phone AT ALL. In the office there are 3-5 people sitting behind the counter chatting about what they had for dinner, but no one will answer the phone. I've filled in the form online trying to make an follow up appt for my son, never received a callback. The only way to get any form of response is by texting them which is not the best when you have questions and are trying to schedule or reschedule an appt. Even then they take hours to reply and then hours to reply again. How the heck can you schedule like that? Trying to reschedule is impossible. No one ever replied to my text. I found this site because they had many top rated people working in the group. When I contacted them about seeing one of the 3 people in their group I was interested in having remove a large skin cancer, I was told the first available appointment for any of them was 3 months out. That was just to start their testing. Since I didn't want to wait that long just for the testing I asked for the earliest appointment with any of their doctors. Two weeks later I got tested, and after two more weeks I finally got results. They called to tell me that all three sites required surgery, and each site had to be done in a separate procedure, and each job would costs $950 to $1500 per job. They wanted the $950 upfront. All they care about is money. They can't seem to even answer phones much of the time. I heard the same complaints about the phones from two of three people who came in after me during my appointment. There's absolutely zero reason all three site's couldn't be taken care of at once, especially since the testing removed 98% of the affected area on two of the three sites. This about making them the most money, not helping the patient. They tried to tell me that it was safer to have 3 procedures because it would cut down on my risk of infection. The reality is that 3 visits increases the risk of infection far more. If you have skin cancer I would suggest you find someplace else. read more

Not a good place! They have made communication impossible!!! I have never gotten through via the phone. I give up after being on hold for 20 minutes. I had to make the 20 minute drive to their office to get my biospy results today. They had the results on the 22nd of May. Today is June 3rd! While in the office today, patients were leaving before being seen because dr. was running 30 minutes behind! Writing this review I came across two statements that say that I should be understanding. So, in light of my understanding, I understand that I had complete difficulty getting in for an appointment. I made an appointment one month out. When I showed up for that appointment I was told that the person I was supposed to see was on maternity leave and that they tried to call me. There was no record that they left a voicemail although they wrote that in their notes. There also was an alternative to use my email to which I had to call three times prior to have them correct three different mistakes. Perhaps they still managed to use the wrong email. Although Alexis was apologetic and calm it didn't change the fact that when I walked in I could not fulfill an appointment that I created three weeks prior. She offered to reschedule but the next appointment available was in March. She checked other locations and they were a month out. Considering I wanted to rule out skin cancer, I found this way too long to wait. But I guess I'm supposed to understand. What I understand is that attention to detail is what creates and supports a good business and good patient care. It's the lack of attention to detail that has me searching elsewhere for how can I trust the providers to pay attention to the details of potential skin cancer? read more

Another 5 Star experience at Affiliated Dermatology. I see the same person each year for my skin cancer screening, Nurse Practitioner Kelly Harris. She is very thorough and very good at explaining what is going on. She had to take 4 suspicious moles this year, all pre-cancerous. This year her assistant was Amelia, very gentle with applying the bandages. She said they have grown to 9 locations in Arizona. read more

I didn't have a good experience when I was seen for a physical examination. I wasn't being seen for an infected ingrown toenail, but the provider squeezed it painfully without asking permission, reopening a closed wound and extending the time required for healing. This was a painful rookie mistake the provider made and I have paid for it. I won't be back to affiliated dermatology for my health needs. On the brighter side, I was seen for my appointment approximately on time and the office implemented COVID-safe practices, which I appreciated. read more

I have only left two bad reviews of businesses in my life, this being the second one). They do not answer their phone. You will go through the trouble of trying to schedule online, including downloading all your insurance information each time, only to get a text saying the time that you selected is no longer available. I don't know how they stay in business with such lack of concern for the customer experience. Feels like they are making enough money off patients such that they don't have to care. My family of four has been patients with them for over five years. I've come to the conclusion that supporting businesses like this one sends the message that it is okay to disrespect consumers. I took my son in on pediatrician's recommendation to check out the irritation on his cheeks that he's had since he was 1month old. After maybe a 5 minute discussion/appointment, I was prescribed hydrocortisone cream for dermatitis, and truly something I could have bought from a drug store on my own. After paying my co-pay, I was still charged $117, and basically for prescribing hydrocortisone cream. I called to talk to the billing department but they would not help me understand and could not escalate my questions before paying my bill. I would not recommend this place and will no longer go here after coming here myself for other services. read more

The receptionist station was sitting there talking about someone's dinner the night before and I had to wait for the conversation to end (1 receptionist didn't even looked at me but put up her finger to signal wait) ... even the nurses that prepped me for my appointment never talked to me other than to bark out orders for me to do ... To be honest I just felt like it was an "Assembly Line" attitude and I didn't appreciate it the experience ... I was calling to see about switching to this dermatologist from East Valley Dermatology as this place is closer to me and I didn't like my last couple experiences with East Valley Derm. I waited on hold for about 15 min in the new patient queue and then a prompt to enter my phone number and receive a call back was offered. I did this expecting to receive a call within 10 mins or so. That was almost an hour ago and I have still not received a call back and this supposedly held my place in line. Not a good sign. read more

Ok. I got a full body inspection and that was fine, no major issues. The "doctor" did find a small wort on foot and hit it with two shots of liquid nitrogen. Several weeks later it did nothing and I got a bill from Affiliated for $220 for the two sprays. No mention it would "cost extra". So be careful what you allow them to do here. A 2nd and final update: It looks like my 2 negative reviews finally made the difference. Madeleine from Customer Service called me and said she would help me through the process of finally getting my prescription. She was wonderful to work with, and I was happy to finally have someone on my side that would help me end my ordeal. It took a few days to finally get everything worked out, but I now have the correct prescription in my hands. I have updated my review to 3 stars as Madeleine finally helped rectify the mess created, but that still does not erase the unnecessary mess that was made. The office itself and all the staff were very nice. The problem with this organization is communication. When you call for an appointment, you're on hold forever. If you choose the option to have a call back, it's two to four days before someone calls. There's no way to communicate directly with the office itself. Lastly, masks are still required even if you're vaccinated. read more

My husband brought in one of our daughters and I was sad I wasn't the one who was able to bring her. He expressed that the entire experience was great and all the staff was extremely friendly. One thing he specifically pointed out was that whenever possible the staff and doctor directed question's specifically to our daughter who is 9 instead of just asking him. It was simple and easy to set up an appointment. I loved my NP Erin Conway. I have never been to a dermatologist before so I was a little nervous but right when she walked into the room she made me feel comfortable. She is very welcoming. I explained my concerns and we talked about everything and she was very knowledgeable. First she would explain things in "doctory" terms but then in words I could understand. This was with the understanding that if I talked to another NP or doctor then I would have heard the language associated with my concerns. We also talked about our sons which I found was excellent bedside manner. The reason being because it helped me stay calm and not focus directly on the procedure that was being conducted. I thought this location would be closer to my house than the others, so I made an appointment here for my annual well skin check. The NP did a good job. And while I gave her a hard time because they always cut something off that is always benign, and she definitely found something to cut off - but this time it was dysplasia. Not cancer, but on the way to cancer, so I'm told. Maybe I should thank her for saving my life? Melanoma kills. Get your skin checked! I had a cyst removed on my scalp and I felt it went well. However, upon removal of the stitches (weeks later) the medical assistant cut an unnecessary amount of my hair without saying anything. I understand it's a difficult area, but she could of said something before or even after cutting it. I'm very disappointed with the lack of courtesy. I was also surprised that she had cut so much of my hair since the PA who removed the cyst didn't cut away much at all. read more

Normally most doctors give you 5-15 min flexibility, sarcastically speaking I'm glad I left work early so I could get there on time, and because of construction traffic having to reschedule for being 10min late, their patient "care" needs some work. read more

Don't do it! While the doctor and nurses were decent, this place is a little too large for my liking. The right hand doesn't seem to ever know what the left hand is doing. What began as a simple excision of a cyst turned into a 3-month pain in the a** with billing, scheduling, and phone calls. I was given an antibiotic originally for the excision and then was told I needed to have another excision of a mole the doctor saw during that visit and needed an additional antibiotic. This would make it so I would have been on an antibiotic for FIVE weeks. THIS is dangerous and unhealthy for your gut and I am confident the doctor must have been unaware of what was happening. What they offered I am also ALLERGIC too. I declined and made the decision there to see another doctor, preferably one who wouldn't give me c. diff. In one day this office called my phone SEVEN times and left SEVEN messages, all contradicting each other with antibiotics, scheduling times, etc. THEN I received a call telling me I needed to reschedule my laser appointment but I would need to go to a different location over TWENTY miles away because they no longer had a laser tech at the location I originally booked the appointment. I prepaid for this service to ensure their sale prices, however, the reason I booked this service was because of the convenience of the location, and I couldn't justify driving over twenty miles away each month for the next 6 months over something that was originally booked about 1 mile away from my home. When I called to cancel the laser appointment I was told I would be receiving a check in the mail for my refunded amount (approx $300), ok no problem. A week goes by and nothing. I call and get transferred to various people and finally end up leaving a voicemail asking about the status of this refund. I then get an email instead of a phone call and instead of receiving a check like I was told before, they were magically able to refund the money back to my card. The whole debacle made no sense. THEN I get my FIRST bill for services performed in October with a $5.50 late fee. I have to call these folks yet again and ask why I am being charged a late fee. I get a canned response about some software update and a glitch and my bills never were sent out like they should have been during the past couple of months, but they will remove the fee "as a courtesy". As a courtesy? What courtesy? This problem was on YOUR end. Also if you were aware of this, why not fix this problem ahead instead of waiting for patients to call about it. I know why. I quit working for a medical practice just like this last year. MOST people won't notice that fee and you can make $5 on each patient for doing NOTHING. That adds up! Typically folks you deal with in a billing department aren't the most pleasant and this place stands up to that reputation. What a terrible experience! I wish I had never gone here! Unfortunately, this place would have been ideal but being they seem to be more concerned about holding their hand out to accept money over holding their hand out to help their patients I urge you to find another dermatologist. There are thousands all over the valley. There is literally one in the same parking lot as this place and about 5 right down the same street. Save yourself the hassle GO SOMEWHERE else! read more

I had another treatment today with Trish at the Ahwatukee office. Can you say AMAZING???!!!!! It was the first time I had met her and honestly she exceeded my expectations. From the moment I met her I was greeted with a warm smile and such a loving personality. We hit it off right away. She was super patient, answered all of my questions and even gave me skin care recommendations that were affordable. She made me feel like family. She is my favorite and I absolutely adore her.
