Very un-professional when a doctor request test and procedures done due to severe health issues, and a health coverage company denies the request. medical decisions should not be determined by the health company. a doctor is requesting this done due to health problems and Affinity denies the claims. this is unacceptable -because the patient's life is in jeopardy. i hope nothing happens due to this claim or i will hand this over to a lawyer. Horribly frustrating rip off. Only offers major road blocks to getting health care. THis company fights to get your monthly payment and fights even harder to NOT give you a nickel for your care. For example it requires complicated prior authorizations with special add ons for regular generic maintenance meds for chronic condition. The reps. are hard to connect with, nice people but know nothing. You can easily waste hours on hold to reach one, then need to try several reps till you find one which understands some of the issues, you have to be careful to hide your frustration or they just hang up on you. a disgrace read more

Avoid this company like the plague, they're seriously not worth it. All your PCP is going to do is have to fight with them because they will try to fight almost every claim you make. They literally do NOT care about you as a client and only care about making as much money as possible like every other insurance company out there and them also being partnered with Beacon Health Options is a testament to their terrible quality. I filed a grievance with them, only to have it rejected because the provider I filed a grievance against wants to lie. I rarely ever leave bad reviews for companies, however this is probably the worst health insurance company that exists. No communication internally. Our babies health insurance was dropped for no reason and then we had to fight with them to reinstate it. Their website is always down, and the line for pharmacists never works either. I'm glad we're together. Really, I am. You take good care of me. But I'm also really, really, really frustrated. I've been combing through your online provider lookup service for over 2 hours. Every doctor I research, approve and call: 1) doesn't exist 2) It's actually a wrong number.. this happens often. SUPER DUPER OFTEN :( 3) doesn't actually take affinity. Pros: working through a clinic, I had a terrific surgery from a great orthopedic surgeon. That part is definitely worth five stars. Cons: With Affinity, and maybe all Obamacare insurance plans, you need to do extra work. I had to identify the doctor, find what clinic he worked at, find a day he would be there, first see an orthopedic doctor and then a much less experienced orthopedic surgeon and then, on pleasantly insisting that I needed a second opinion, got the doctor I wanted, who did an excellent job. Situation: with Affinity, like many other Obamacare plans, I needed to go through a clinic and make multiple appointments - just seems to be how things work. I couldn't just make an appointment with the doctor at his private practice. Other notes: there was an Xray charge that Affinity told me it wouldn't cover because the doctor hadn't pre-authorized it and told the hospital something else. We'll see where that goes. Upside: all along, I've been able to get someone from Affinity on the phone about bills (this has happened only a couple of times) with little wait. The outcomes aren't always what I want, but there is communication. About Jess's concerns with finding doctors: yeah, they're not big on OB/GYN. In looking into alternatives, the thing I learned is to never rely on what an insurance company has on its website regarding its network of doctors. You have to call the doctor's office directly and ask them what insurance they take and mention, if Obamacare, that you have a marketplace policy. This is true not only of Affinity but with all of them. Summary: with patience, you can get what you want, but it takes research and time and may involve more doctor / clinic visits than you would like. PS: My family is switching plans. Getting a hold of these people is like getting a hold of God. It's IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! I have called multiple days on multiple days, holding for countless hours and the line disconnects on its own after I am holding and wasting my time. Found them on the site for my state. Searched for my doctor and they came up. Looked good! Now they told my doctor they won't cover him. I've been holding 59 minutes waiting to speak with someone. Even one star is too much. Their premiums are the cheapest & their lack of service & denial of coverage reflects that. Avoid this company at all costs, unless you have hours to spend on the phone in queue. Also, their roster is outdated & many physicians have opted out of their network. read more

THE WORST HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY. From day one it was a head ache! I signed up, paid and received a temporary ID via email in January for a February 1st start date, as i was told, it turns out the customer service agent told me the wrong information, my coverage did not start until March! I was misinformed and now affinity is trying to stick me with $1000 in doctors bills from February 2016. No one at affinity will or according to them Can help me get this resolved, affinity will not take responsibility and just hangup, transfer me and say who i need to speak with is not in the office. Does no one at affinity Make any decisions?! NOT only that i went with affinity based off their provider list, which i found out its nearly 100% inaccurate!!! I called provider after provider for them to tell me they do not accept affinity... affinitys response? Its the providers job to let us know they do not take our insurance. ARE YOU KIDDING?! It not your responsibility to provide accurate information to your customers!? It also turns out their provider list is so wrong that i could not even get care for cover services that were covered under my plan because NO DOCTORS TOOK THEIR INSURANCE!!! No literally, i call every single doctor on the provider list in the state of NY not one accepted my insurance. So i paid for coverage i couldn't even get. By the Way they still haven't resolved the issue with my start date... its been since May 2016 I've been actively doing everything i can to get this resolved and i am no closer than May. The problem I have faced with them is the customer service. I had so many billing issues and made many calls to them only to find the same problem over and over. Now my doctor and I have been trying for 3 days to get approval to have a mammogram and cannot get through to anyone on the phone. We both have even emailed the company but have gotten no response. I am new to Affinity and I needed to pay them to send me the cards. I called yesterday and I provided my debit card information to this lady. I had to do 4 different transactions because its 4 of us. She kept asking me for my card information every time. However, until the last time she actually had written down. I did not think nothing of it. An hour later my bank shows a negative balance. There were personal transaction that was not made by me. I cannot prove that she did this, but this was the only person I have provided my debit card information to on this day. I did not use my debit card at all. I am extremely upset that you cannot trust the workers from this health plan. I am reluctant to pay my premiums with them. I am scared and I am upset. I have zero balance in my bank account. Yes, they will refund me since its fraud, but it takes 7-10 days of me being with no cash until the investigation is completed. I am a grown women asking people to lend me cash because this worker at AFFINITY HEALTH PLAN. Is our personal information secured? How many others she done it to? Crazy. read more

IS there a dr. In the house?..is there quality control at the insurance co? Does anyone keep track of the offices their participating drs work out of? when I've been told to call a dr who moved out of that office a year ago, right after I got their name address & phone no. from an affinity customer service representative & then have to track them to their real office & r told that they take affinity at the other office But not the ' metal (Obamacare ) plans ' dr works at now ..repeatedly ..its bad enough that I pay well over $500 a mo. for the highest level New York State of health ' Obamacare ' metal plan, out of pocket..but when no one is at my pcps office on a workday Wednesday, I know I have a sinus & maybe upper respiratory & ear infection, & need them at a $15 copay,or an e.n.t dr.( specialist) For. $35 copay & after 2 1/2 hrs on the phone calling the service providers they just gave me to call & their customer service line several times finally to be told to spend $55 for a copay to go to an urgent care center but god help if that urgent care center doesn't send your lab test to the ' only ' lab affinity authorizes...otherwise you,ll get an out of network charge for lab fees..even the affinity phone rep there said .only speak to a supervisor..on a call back ..I got a transferred to a supervisors answering machine & no call back all day today.btw according to them, dont get sick or moderately injured in another state other than n.y. If it's a n.y. policy . .. otherwise it gets really complicated unless you go to a hospital e.r. In that other state for a $100 copayment.they will say go to an urgent care center then tell you later it's out of state out of network not covered.. This is not the only problematic ' Obamacare health care plan ,,the one I had the prior 2 years before was even worse.! .black hole , no stars..but medical insurance shouldn't make you sicker or complicate a covered sick persons ability to get reasonable cost medical care on work day , work time ,weekdays . Do not purchase their insurance! Their agents will lie to you about what the coverage is and it will take weeks, if not months, to be even entered into their system (and get an insurance card) and then when you're finally in the system after hours of waiting to speak to an Affinity representative, you'll find out that none of the coverage representations were true and that there is no coverage to speak of. An Affinity agent told me I had eyeglass coverage (not true, which I only found out after 27 days of calling them to get me into the vision system), that I had dental insurance up to $1000. of benefits (not true), that my doctor was on the plan (not true) and that there was mental health coverage (also not true). In short, Affinity's agents will represent anything to get you to sign up and pay the premium. The supervisors at Affinity have no idea what your coverage is and one department has no idea what another department is doing. You'll spend hours on the phone waiting to speak to someone who knows nothing. The deductible if you choose Adult Vision/Dental is absurdly high (close to $7000.) only to find out that essentially no vision or dental services are covered (I was listed as a pediatric vision patient for 27 days and it took at least 4 full days to convince them that I paid for adult coverage!). When I confronted the Affinity agent about why he basically misrepresented every aspect of the coverage, he told me that his supervisor told him to say that certain (non-existent) coverage exists!! To top it all off, you run the risk of getting of violating "Obamacare" rules if you cancel the plan and are deemed a "non-payment of premium". Don't get involved with Affinity in the first place, worst ins. company ever! read more
