The radiator overflow on my car popped off. Wasn't leaking from the radiator, but it wouldn't start. George was there helping someone else as well, and he didn't even take a look before he fixed it... "Roll it down the hill so it's flat." Sure enough it fired up. He said keep a close eye on the temperature, and if it doesn't say it's getting hotter or cooler, might need a thermostat. I'll be giving him a call for sure if it is. read more

My wife and I live in Pasadena but were looking to purchase a used vehicle from a dealership in Escondido. We contacted George yesterday to ask him if he'd be able to go to the dealership in question and check out the vehicle while we drove down, but he said no...which was fantastic! He asked what make & model it was, and when I told him we were looking to buy a 2010 Honda Insight he explained that he'd be happy to take a look at the mechanical components but was up front about the fact that he wasn't familiar with hybrid batteries, and I appreciated the honesty. He also said he'd prefer if I called him once my wife and I were actually down in Escondido and had a chance to look at the car and test drive it, as he didn't want to have to charge us the $150 inspection fee unless we were actually serious about moving forward with the purchase. Again, I really appreciated his transparency and integrity. I was a little worried we'd have to wait longer than we wanted to for him to get to the dealership following the test drive, so I called him again as we were heading back, and he was so prompt that we had only returned five minutes prior to his arrival. His inspection was thorough, and he made sure to explain what he was looking for every step of the way, taking care to point out even the slightest cosmetic defects, just so that I had a complete picture of the vehicle prior to purchase, but ultimately he signed off on the car and really provided peace of mind to my wife and me, allowing us to move forward confidently with the purchase. I went with this business because of the good reviews, and feel I need to post this here since my experience was not great and I want other Yelpers to know. I was buying a used car at a (supposedly) reputable Volvo dealership, and am stuck out of town due to family issues, so I needed someone to go out to take a look at it for me in my absence. George replied promptly and went right out to check out the car. He texted me a picture of him running the computer diagnostic test, then called to explain what a code meant. I had a follow up question about the code, and he answered that, too. He said he spent a lot of time with the car, and told me it was in great shape and would be a good buy. He kept repeating "this is a great car". So I went for it. On my first day driving the car, I noticed a slightly unusual noise that seemed related to the wheels, along with a clicking sound that may or may not have been related. Because I am very meticulous when it comes to car maintenance, and safety in particular, I took the car in to my family member's mechanic right away. This mechanic (who is trusted by me and my family), charged me $200 and took a good look at the car, before breaking the news: the transfer case had failed, and that there was NO power going to my back wheels. He told me that I would need to replace it and that it wouldn't be safe to drive on the freeway as-is. Total cost? Between $3500-5000. I also took the car to two other mechanics to get opinions before committing to this enormous repair, for a total of nearly $600 to diagnose this issue that George overlooked. This is unacceptable, both on the part of the dealer and on the part of this mechanic, who was supposed to do a thorough overview of the car and give me an honest opinion about its mechanical condition. I paid this guy $150 for that, and got a car that needed $3500+ in repairs. I am not a mechanic -- if I could notice an odd noise within minutes of driving the car, why couldn't the trained professional do the same? ALSO, the tires were worn out/cupped in an erratic way that is VERY noticeable, and my mechanic was stunned that George didn't pick that up when inspecting the vehicle. These are basic issues, but I'm now out almost $5,000 on the first week with the car thanks to this oversight. Plus the $150 I paid to George, and the cost of getting the car looked at by 3 mechanics in order to determine what was wrong. It has been a bit of a nightmare. George seemed nice when we spoke, but I would not recommend or trust his opinion when it comes to pre-purchase used car inspections. Be wary. *Note: I had one more follow-up question after the first one, and he never replied to that, leaving me to feel like he didn't quite care about my business since it was unlikely I'd use him again. I have a 2016 Ford that has had issues since I bought it used last July 2021.
