Where do I start. The attitude of the guy who came to cut and program my key was unprofessional and he failed to pull the code from the ECU.
We stood in the rain for half an hour, before he asked if I wanted to pay £40 to get an un-programmed key cut saying I could get it programmed at a main dealer, I said yes, he cut the key and gave it to me and the quality was awful with cheap plastic and bits flaking off of it where the metal part of the key (loosely) entered the plastic.
Prior to this I gave him a past MOT certificate to pull the VID from, he never gave this back to me. When I phoned up I was told that he had given it back to me, which I knew was a lie. I said so, they then said he left it in the car, which of course is the easiest way to get me off of their backs because it throws the possibility that I lost it into the equation.
A couple of days later I went to Caffyns VW, who told me they couldn't program the key because it isn't a VW key, and attempting to program it could lose the code on the existing key.
He also claimed to have dealings with the local Caffyns VW garage, saying that he "did them favours" and such. I phoned them up, and they confirmed that they had never heard of him. read more
