Straight up front food from Afghanistan. I entered this place to try some kebabs different from all the usual places in curry mile that I was so used to. This place is blessed with fresh baking over clay kebabs which marinated orange sauces and stuffed with herbs and spices. They have other dishes in form of curries as well. They also do usual take away pizza and chips. It's not on the main road and a little on the inside, but that only makes it a different place to come to. We went to Afghan Cuisine after dousing one another in colours, celebrating Holi, the Indian festival, which marks the onset of spring (trust me, the weather is a lot springier in India). We first wanted to get into the refurbished Punjab but they were not yet open and we were very, very hungry. So we decided to try a new place and Afghan Cuisine looked inviting from the outside. In reality it's a glorified takeaway with seating upstairs. Good things first. 1.The food is very delicious. I had a chicken + seekh mixed kebab on naan bread and ordered a portion of rice. My wife got an Ashaq or something like that, which was veggie dumplings. All of these tasted very good. 2. They only do canned drinks. Which is good, because, (here is where it all goes downhill) I initially opted for tap water and since I witnessed the heinous act of drinking water coming out of what looked like the cleaning cupboard, I was so glad they do only canned drinks. The food itself is amazing and if this place were tucked away in the middle of nowhere it would earn around 3 or 4 stars for this. But given that this is tucked away in the middle of the curry mile with competition everywhere, it only gets two stars, because I expect a better quality of service. The soft skills aspect of the restaurant industry was profoundly lacking in this place so much so that these guys made Basil Fawlty look like an adorable little delight. I would only go there again if I was desperate for a kebab at an unsociable hour, after a drinkathon in town and somehow I got transported to the curry mile without my knowledge and all other restaurants in the vicinity were closed. We went to Afghan Cuisine after the Holi celebrations in Platt Fields Park and were wandering through and thought we would try a place we've not eaten before rather than going a restaurant we have frequented. They are a take away but they have a large upstairs restaurant seating area and wait staff so you do expect a bit more of a restaurant service. But you had to order at the counter even though you weren't charged till you left. The canned drinks didn't even make it upstairs until our food arrived which wasn't a long wait but I'm not sure how long it takes to walk some cans up the stairs, or possibly even hand them to us when we ordered as they did give us glasses with them after the 15 minute wait. As I said the food itself was very tasty. I was extraordinarily hungry and my mixed kebab of bobeda meat and chicken tikka with onion and salad hit the spot very well. The raita and chilli salsa type sauces went very well with the food as well and the rice I ordered on the side was a huge plate and almost tasty enough to have had on it's own mixed with shredded carrot and raisins. The staff were fairly gruff and dismissive, responding to questions about the menu almost with an annoyance that we weren't aware that a kebab didn't come with rice or that they only had canned drinks. To be honest 2 Stars doesn't really reflect the quality of the food which was good and at a reasonable price, for this alone they would have warranted 3 stars, however with the competition on the Curry Mile you would expect a bit more gracious hospitality, sadly this was hugely lacking. I would recommend many other places simply for their service and give this take away a miss unless you are simply walk through and want to grab a tasty kebab or chicken and rice on the way home after a night out. read more

Afghan Cuisine is one of the better paces on the Curry Mile to munch, chomp, eat, chew, consume or devour some food, sustenance, nourishment or fodder. My one criticism would have to be that they could do more authentic Afghan stuff. Their selection is not that far away from that sold by the other kebab restaurants of the area. However, the quality is considerably better than most of the establishments vending such delicacies on this illustrious mile of Asian cuisine, and that is high praise indeed. They do all the normal take away stuff including curries and even pizzas (not sure why). Its not that these are in any way bad, but if you want to experience the best side of this little establishment, go for one of the unusual sounding traditional Afghan dishes and some mint tea. read more

Who reading this knows what afghan cuisine is? Not many I'm guessing, I now have a poor grasp of it. In 2008 afghan cuisine blessed us with its presence on the curry mile. Inside it appears the average takeout, upstairs is a family sitting area which can host a few. Afghan does the standard series of kobeda kebabs and pizzas, all very good and similar to the makeup of jazeera just down the road. But if you want to live a little/walk on the wild side if you were, far more interesting dishes are on offer. These include the peculiar manto (steamed mince, onions, lentil sauce and yoghurt). never will we set foot in here again after recieving burnt naans and my niece found a hair in her food we complained to the staff who point blank refused to replace the food or give the money back. when we told them that we would no longer come back the staff replied" good. its good for us to as we dont wont to be served by bad mannered staff with not so good food so the feelings are mutual. read more

A lovely little restaurant come take away in rushholme with a menu of grilled meats and fresh rice or naan. Everything was made fresh to order, the chicken and kebabs were juicy and tasty and the nan was the best I've had in a while. Ordered the Sultani with kobeda kabob and lamb over rice. The food here is really delicious and reasonably priced! I would eat here again. Most people seemed to sit upstairs, though more crowded. The air circulation here is not great, so when the kitchen gets smokey it does get into the dining area. Also, it gets busy so even if you order the food quickly, it could take a little while for the food to come out. Other than that, it's a modest, no frills place with delicious, affordable food. read more

One star is very generous from a vegetarian person who ordered the 'only' meat-free meal on the menu and turned to have all sorts of meat. When my wife and I complaint about it the owner asked us to pay for it saying we had been eating our meals and were trying to live without paying. I've been to this place now dozens of times, as well as about 100 other Kebab restaurants in the UK over the years. Conclusion: without a doubt the best I've ever had.
