However, I was informed that it was not permissible to try more than two items at a time. I endeavored to remain composed despite feeling quite upset. At the checkout, I politely inquired whether I could return the shoes if they proved to be too large. Although I had tried them on in the shop and found them too big, I thought they might be suitable for my mother. In response, I received an extremely rude and elevated reply. In my twenty years residing in this country, this was the first occasion I felt unwelcome as a foreigner. This experience was particularly unexpected coming from a second-hand shop and especially from an elderly lady.

Also new cards, hosiery etc and occassional nic-nacs. The ladies who work there are lovely, friendly and always welcoming. I find it almost impossible to pass without popping in, and rarely come away empty handed, especially if I have the children with me as they love delving through the baskets of little toys under the shelves. The ladies will also happily clamber into the window display or delve into the storeroom if you're looking for something in particular, and always price things reasonably.

Sells all the clothes, bric a brac, books etc you would expect (although no childrenswear, and toys can be a bit hit and miss), along side some great quality new goods such as wooden toys, gifts and seasonal ranges. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful. Wheelchair/buggy access can be a bit tight due to space allowances, and there is one step into the building.

I can pop in for a take away drink and while I'm waiting have a look to see all the neat things in the shop. They've just updated their menu to also include jacket potatoes, Mocktails, thick shakes, and much more! The charity shop just had a face lift which is much more open feeling with clothes more easily to be looked through. I usually see Jenni or Tom working, and both always are so happy to serve me with a smile on their faces or some small talk.

My favourite thing to collect is tea sets, and Acorns has often got beautiful tea sets in the window. I recently bought a gorgeous 6 piece coffee set from there: 6 cups and saucers, a milk jug, sugar bowl and coffee pot, in a beautiful sweet pea design, all in fantastic condition no chips cracks of crazing, for the princely sum of £2!!! Another great thing about Acorns is that it always has a great selection of books in excellent condition and they are always £1 no matter how new / old the print run.

It's a really safe place for young children with a large soft play area with soft slides and climbing frames. There's also a small separate bit at the end of the main soft play where younger, smaller or less confident children can play on a smaller scale soft play area. They have some outdoor activity but that is only open during good weather. It's is just over £2 for an hour and a half and is open day times until 4pm. The price is per child. Refreshments are available at a reasonable price although there is only a fairly small selection. They serve hot drinks, cold drinks and cold snacks. You have to give the name of each child as you go in and out. There is only one way out so you know your kids are safe because you can see them. It is suitable for children from toddlers to around age 12.
