Always amazing food, fantastic and friendly service. Wouldn't go anywhere else for Indian food unless I wanted to eat out.

I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

If you find yourself searching for somewhere to eat on a Friday night having heard your mate say,…read more"I fancy an Indian" you could do a lot worse than Ganges Brasserie in Hove. Their massive selection of dishes means there's something for everyone, so whether you're a spice freak or a meak 'n' mild kind of person Ganges will cater for you (if you're really boring you can even order chicken and chips but I wouldn't recommend it.) The highlight of the menu is the Ganges Specials section, which ranges in price from £9.95 to £13.95. From this I usually order the Chilli Chicken Massalla or the Lamb Passanda and as of yet I haven't been disappointed. However, the menu can leave the inexperienced feeling a little indecisive, as the range of options can seem somewhat overwhelming. I'd recommend going there with an idea of the kind of dishes you like, that way you can always ask the friendly staff for comparisons. The Sunday buffet is great for those of a hungry disposition as you can tuck in to as much as you like for just £7.95 but whether or not you go for this, Ganges is always sure to leave you with a lasting feeling of fullness. Top notch!

The staff are also incredibly lovely and very professional. The service can be a tad slow but it is worth the wait. Why haven't I been here before!!!!!…read more Having lived in Brighton for so long, ive never been here despite enjoying a good curry. Planet India is my new curry house! My god. If you want authentic, tasty good food. Then come here. It's also BLOODY cheap. Between two people we had such a crazy amount of food and it cost us £20. Not each.. Between us! We had so much food. This place is really good! You can bring your own bottle.. Which is always a winner. The staff are very friendly and it's just got a good vibe. If your someone who likes to go to somewhere where it's really posh and upmarket .. This place isn't for you. It's got a home made feel, and care is taken more in the food than in the actual chairs and tables and other interior features. I think the reason why I avoided this place was because of the name.. Planet India... You often get similar names like planet pizza or pizza planet. The pizza always ends up being pretty shit! ( am I allowed to swear??) But I've learnt the importance of... don't judge a book by its cover! This place is GOOD!

The menu is really inventive actually, using unusual ingredients that make this a refreshing change to all the regular fayre you'd find on a regular Indian take away menu. There's the Mombai potato curry with coconut, the aubergine in yoghurt curry and my personal favourite, the sweetcorn & patra curry - sweetcorn & chunks of vine leaves with a spicy paste in a tangy tomato curry sauce. The best part is you can try a few different dishes as there is an option to order half portions. Yey! They also sell unusal lagers from countries as far flung as Lithuania and Poland which makes for an interesting touch.

Don't let this put you off though, it put me off for years until I was recommended to go by a friend, and I truly believe this is one of Brighton's best kept culinary secrets. My favourite starter was the fried fish fillets, which are fried in gram flour so are gluten free which is good for me! They also make their masala dosa from scratch, they soak the rice and lentils over night, then grind them in a stone grinder that they imported all the way from India! The most authentic tasting dosa I have ever had! The curries are all amazing, with plenty of unique dishes to choose from, the Lamb Shank curry is one of the best I have ever had. Definitely head to Eastern Eye if you haven't yet, for amazingly authentic curries, and some of the best Indian that is available in Brighton!

I guess the surroundings must explain why it always looks a bit dead - that and the not too welcoming tacky shop front, which also doesn't give a great view inside of the restaurant. But I'd really recommend you give it a go - in fact this is one of my Indian friend's favourite restaurant in Brighton! The decor is smart, modern and comfortable. The food is good value and seriously yummy - with a great fresh range from indulgent to light and healthy. They also do a big veggie selection. Also look out for the cheapie lunchtime deals advertised in the window. The only thing I wouldn't reccomend the place for is a romantic meal; it's often empty in there, so you'll feel a bit exposed and watched by the waiter. But the place is way more dead than it deserves to be - definitely great for a group as the restaurant gets some business and you get quick delicious food!

Bhindis, I must say, has the edge most winter nights as they'll deliver. When this place opened a few years ago, it went by the name 'Balti Towers' and quickly changed it... infringement of copyright? I have no idea. I though it was a great pun but I guess they wanted to be taken more seriously. Bhindis are very proud of the fact that they have an entirely open kitchen, so you can watch the chefs at work while you wait for your curry and it's plain to see that this place is both hygienic and efficient. The front-of-house service is great too. The food here is absolutely delicious, not greasy and super tasty. They use fresh herbs in all their dishes and you can taste the freshness of the meat and veg too. As much as I love the Agra I think Bhindis may have the edge with it's pricing too. Most dishes have rice included and you can choose between a large and small portion of your main meal, with quite a noticeable price difference. They also have this gorgeous bright orange coleslaw-type stuff (sounds weird but trust me, it's lush) which I dip my poppadums and bhajis into with immense joy. If you love a great curry, then Bhindis is a must.

Including the desserts. I loved it so much that I excitedly tweeted to them that I would singlehandedly keep a restaurant open in Brighton. And they replied to me telling me to wait. Well... the wait is over! Today I was invited to the opening of the new Leon Restaurant in Brighton which replaces Eat. I think this is a brilliant swap as Eat was far too similar to its neighbour Pret. But Leon is quite different in that it offers warm, hearty food. Setting up just before winter is also probably a good move. The decor is really nice and chilled out. They make good use of the space which I've previously found a bit dark and claustrophobic. Katy and I were greeted by some of the nice workers at Leon and told we could each choose a meal and drink to have on the house. We both went for the Moroccan Meatballs (on my recommendation). I had a lemonade to drink and Katy went for a green smoothie. We also picked up a few sweet treats: my favourite lemon and ginger slice and a billionaire shortbread for Katy. The meatballs are my favourite so I knew I would like them, but Katy had never been to a Leon and she loved it as well. She began talking about how close it is to her work and how she will be able to pop in on breaks for a relatively healthy and warm meal. We also tried searching for the menu online and a sneaky link to Deliveroo popped up. So we're hoping they're going to be one of our delivery options soon.
