The first winery we went to that day was Fattoria di Montemaggio. I'm so glad we hired the driver to go there. It was up on a hill off a gravel and dirt road in the far reaches of Radda in Chianti. Had we tried to drive there on our own, I think we may have given up, thinking we had gone the wrong way. However, on the way there, we saw beautiful view after beautiful view. Then we arrived and the views were even more stunning. Once we began the tour, we were joined by another couple (happenstance, also Americans) and our tour guide, an intern from the University of Florence who was very knowledgeable about winemaking in Chianti. We walked around the beautiful vista points, and through the vineyards. We saw hills, grapes, olives, and roses. This tour and wine tasting was beyond informative. I honestly learned so much about the region. It was really interesting. Our tour guide was very personable and the whole experience was enjoyable. We tried several wines and a grappa in the middle of an olive grove sitting in a lovely picnic area. In true Italian style, we were given a plate with salami, pecorino cheeses, bread and olive oil to taste along with the wine. We truly had an amazing morning of wine (yes, it is always 5 o'clock in Chianti) and I would truly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Chianti. Yes, it is a bit treacherous, so a driver is a good move.

There isn't a parking lot per se, but grassy spots and the road just sort of dead ends. We all drove here in seperate rental cars. Came here with a large group for my dear friends birthday celebration. We had the place to ourselves as a private tour, just our group was present. The place is beautiful and sprawling, no bad pictures to take. The itenary included a history of the property/family info of the winemaker, tour of the grounds, detailed lesson in wine making and fermentation process, a full (very yummy) lunch with dessert, wine tasting, and free time to explore and enjoy. Our hosts treated us so well. Staff was amazing, great service. Well worth the visit. If I hadn't traveled half way around the world, I definitely would have bought a couple of bottles. They only ship to US in bulk orders.

Part of our package was a lunch we had in their house, consisting of four courses of food with us tasting of four selected wines. The wines were of excellent quality. These grapes are unique and only harvested 11days during the season, which is now in the early fall. The food they served was excellent +. I'm told this is not the family name but it refers instead to the terracing in the mountainside where these grapes are grown. This is a high end winery that has a limited production and only has 6 employees. They grow the grapes, produce the wine, age it in French oak barrels, and bottle it here. They have several varieties and even produce grappa from the skins. We had a traditional Italian pranzo which included antipasti, (cheese, olives, bruschetta, bread and olive oil, and even a cold vegetable omelet.) primo piatto we had pasta, secondo piatto pork and a magnificent salad with home grown greens, olive oil, black olives, tart apple, & pignoli. Our guide, who was unaffiliated with the winery, explained that Principe Corsini was a medium-sized operation in the Tuscan winemaking landscape. Much bigger than the others we visited, but not a mass producer. It's owned by the Corsini family, who bought the villa in the 14th century. Rich people making wine, Italian style. The property was pretty. There was a shop on the first floor of the main building and a restaurant upstairs--Osteria Le Corti, where we spent most of our visit. The winemaking facilities were also in the building, and we got a tour after we sated our hunger. Lunch was casual and leisurely, and included a tasting of Principe Corsini's wines. Our guide took us through the tasting, and I liked all four of the wines. We started with the Spumante Rosé Principe Corsini, a lively sparkling rosé, then had the Don Tommaso Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. The Marsiliana IGT Costa Toscana was another nice blend, and the Zac, the cru of Villa Le Corti, was a 100% Sangiovese. It was the oldest of our wines, and had aged beautifully. We weren't there for the food, and I was pleasantly surprised by its excellence. The menu was limited, a prix fixe light lunch that included choice of one starter, one first course, and one dessert, with two choices for each. My husband and I ended up trying everything. The starters were both quite foreign to me, unlike any Italian food I've seen in America. There was a pumpkin and leek flan with Cipressaia blue cheese fondue and a pumpkin seed crumble, sweet and savory with an appealing variety of textures. A dish of dense creamed cod came with spiced chickpea purée and cracker-thin crostini. The primi were outstanding. Pillowy pumpkin gnocchi came with a hearty black kale pesto and plenty of pecorino cheese. The pheasant-filled half-moon pasta were big dumplings loaded with tender meat, served with reduced pheasant jus and aromatic herbs. One of the best pasta dishes we had in Italy. For dessert, there was chocolate cake and panna cotta with cherries. Both fantastic, but I especially loved that lush, silky panna cotta. I had an espresso with dessert. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but this was a treat. The tour was interesting. We walked through rooms full of barrels and fermentation tanks and got to see the actual bottling process, which was pretty neat. Principe Corsini has their own bottling machine, and it was fun and weirdly satisfying to watch it work. If you're visiting wineries in Tuscany, I'd highly recommend Villa Le Corti. The wines are great, and it's a lovely place to stop for lunch.

Visited as part of a larger tour…read more The staff was friendly and helpful. The tour provided of the wine-making facilities was fairly perfunctory. The main point of interest is the wine that they age in terracotta containers, vs. wooden barrels. The wine tasting (and olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting) were very good, and we ended up ordering several bottles of wine shipped home (and skipped dinner out that night). In short, a stop definitely worth it.
