Goofy Roll and Salmon Avocado Roll
    Casey S.

Came here yesterday because we wanted to try a new sushi spot. This has been the most impressive spot in the area yet. Food: my wife and I started with a really delectable smoked salmon sushi. We treated ourselves to a spring roll appetizer which came out really hot, but tasted really good with a Thai chili sauce. I got the Goofy roll, which I thought is probably one of my favorite roles in the area, and the salmon avocado roll. The salmon really stood out to me is being really fresh. My wife got a kiss of fire roll, which was a nice, enjoyable specialty. Service: I do not know our gentleman's name that helped us, but he was on top of everything and super nice from the moment we walked in. I can think of only two or three sushi restaurants I've been to with service like this. Ambiance: it has a deceivingly high number of seats for the small location. I did not get to check out any other part.

Such an amazing place with great food! Ended up here on new year's eve after we tried to go to Miga and it was packed, and thank god we came here! The atmosphere is great, the service is amazing and the food is top notch! Highly recommend getting the forget me not roll and scallion pancake. Will definitely be back!

Great local Japanese spot, BYOB. Stanley, our waiter, was so hospitable, even on a busy night! Really loved the gyoza. I ordered the beef teriyaki bento box, everything was so fresh. The beef teriyaki was perfectly cooked, medium rare, tender and great. The ginger salad was so zesty. Hope to come back soon!

This was "vegetable" Lo Mein. Honestly, just mushy noodles !!

We have been regular customers since opening day. Always loved it, as a matter of fact I gave a 5 star review some time ago. Unfortunately food has been going downhill from what it once was. Very disappointing. Not sure if it's new ownership, cooks or both. "Vegetable" Lo Mein was just mushy noodles.

To-date, my favourite place in the area had been Denville's Miga Sushi - but that has recently changed when a group of my work buddies discovered Ai-Sakae as our next "team lunch-out" destination. I've not seen a wider selection of Vegetarian sushis than here (try their Green Tree Roll with Kiwi topping and you'll know what I mean...) - and I've never felt not hungry few hours after having had sushi for lunch (blame my fast metabolism), as the portions are reasonably big. Wide selection of rolls that will satisfy any raw seafood (or exclusively veggies...in a roll...) fan, unexpectedly big pieces of sushi. Their Miso is fantastic - not luke warm like in some other places, and feels freshhhh... salad is unconventionally good, too, as they seem to add a variety of greens in it - which isn't typical to a side salad typically served alongside sushi lunch specials. Only been here during lunch, but always had super quick and pleasant service. Sufficient parking in front, since it's in a plaza. One not to miss!

Shrimp cucumber roll & pork gyoza

My coworker and I ordered from them for lunch today. They delivered the food really fast. We honestly didn't wait that long after calling. I loved the pork gyozas. It was both crispy and soft. The shrimp cucumber rolls were good. But I should've gotten more honestly. I'll be happy to try them again in the future & visit in person.

I visited Ai-Sakae with a friend for dinner on a weeknight after confirming that the restaurant can do gluten-free rolls. They have gluten-free sauce available, which is always a plus! As for the rolls, I enjoyed all of my order minus the seaweed salad roll. I thought it could have been fresher or maybe it just doesn't work well as a roll. The service was excellent from start to finish, we felt attended to. The seating is a bit close, but it wasn't bad at all during our visit. I noticed that other diners had more complex orders than we did, but the plating looked beautiful. This is a perfect spot for a date night or dining with friends when you want to kick back.

Our weekly trip to Ai-Sakae included trying the special "Christmas Roll". It was fresh and delicious! Our waiter- Stanley- is always so accommodating and kind! Highly recommend, 10/10

A solid Asian restaurant with plenty of options of different cuisines if you're undecided. They cater to mainly Japanese/Chinese dishes on the menu. In terms of taste, I would say my particular go-to dish of eggplant was a little more on the sweet side so I didn't really take to it. Also the agedashi tofu didn't have the crunchy outside texture/shape we are accustomed to.. it was kinda strange it was cut in rectangular shapes since it's usually cube shape which distributes the texture to the palate better. However, the ginger sauce of the green salad appetizer and sweet potato roll was on point! Overall, they are thoughtful attending to your requests about your dishes, additional condiments, and about other seating preferences. I would say the service is STELLAR. I came here on a whim on weekday night and people trickled in steadily, and it was clear many people were regulars. Understandable because of how well they treat their customers.

Tonight is the third or fourth time we've gotten take out from Ai-Sakae and it's the first time they've swamped and behind on pickup orders. Normally, I don't care if I have to wait as I'll just leave the house later, but I didn't know before I left. Clearly they were shorthanded tonight. The first few times we got food here (the first time was the first week they were open) we've gotten sushi and Thai and the food was excellent. Sushi tasted great, rolls were good sized for the price, and the Thai food was very tasty, though not as spicy as I'm used to. Tonight we ordered Pad Thai with chicken, Red Curry with chicken, a Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box and a Kani salad. The meals were excellent as usual, the portions were large, and the prices are comparable to similar restaurants in the area. Had this been my first time here I probably would have taken a star away, but I know tonight was an anomaly. Honestly, I wish the inside was a bit bigger because we'd come eat here in person. The decor is great and the staff is very friendly, but there's not a ton of room. Tonight's little glitch won't keep me away...the food is too good to stay away

PROS: - good quality food - lots of food options from appetizers to Thai, other cooked dishes - great assortment of rolls and new rolls I've never seen before - great specials - good dessert options - fast friendly service CONS: - small space Came here on a whim bc our regular sushi place was closed until dinner. Reviews here are accurate! The food is pretty good and reliable. The staff is so friendly and our food came out really fast. The crispy eggplant is 10/10! Their soup broths/base is sooo delicious, def one of the best I've ever had! I loved that they had more than one dessert option and I've never seen tempura cheese cake. They also have bubble tea and other teas. I highly recommend if you are in the area.

The moment we sat down, I knew this was one of those sushi spots with lots of regulars. The servers seemed to know a lot of the tables that were seated and made us feel very welcome as well. The quality of the fish was unreal. I had the Kiss of Fire roll and we also shared smoked salmon sushi and spring rolls as an appetizer. Now I can't wait to be a new regular for them!

Thankfully, Mintea just a quick drive north on Ridgedale Avenue in Morris Plains has completely filled the void left by Laku's untimely demise. While the dining area's minimal decor clearly prioritizes function over atmosphere, the food and service are where this place truly stands out. The menu runs the gamut of Asian cuisines -- covering Japan, China, Thailand, and Vietnam -- and every single thing we've tried is incredibly well-executed. My dining companion and I have ordered everything from sushi to soups and noodle dishes and nothing misses the mark. The service is also terrific. The servers are genuinely friendly and attentive without ever being overbearing. One of the long-tenured servers always asks my dining companion how her father is doing -- because he had joined us once for dinner at Mintea a few years ago. I've tried a variety of sushi, and it's always fresh and delicious. The rice dishes are great too, and I especially love the wonton soup, which uses thin pasta instead of the thick noodles that most spots serve. I also tried the Pad Thai, but it wasn't really my favorite because the noodles weren't my preferred type, and the shrimp were a bit large and gummy. That said, overall this is a really great sushi spot that I'll happily return to for their consistently fresh sushi and flavorful dishes weekly.

The venue itself exudes classic elegance--it feels like "old money" charm and could easily be a backdrop for a scene in The Godfather. For dinner, I ordered the classic Caesar salad, pan-roasted Angus filet mignon with potato au gratin, and the chocolate soufflé. The salad was what you'd expect--fresh and well-prepared. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and served in a surprisingly generous portion.
