God I hate dealing with the whole summertime AC-in-an-apartment installation process, and the guys I used to use no longer service my area. I've experimented with keeping them in the windows during the winter, but it gets mighty drafty in my apt and the heat isn't the BEST. So when I called around for quotes, I specifically let them know I wanted to try keeping my ACs in year-round (I needed 2 put in), but wanted to know the most efficient way to do so and keep in heat in the wintertime. Vlad's place recommended the plexiglass option in place of the accordian panels. I was willing to try anything. Definitely some of the best installation prices you'll find in the city. Alen had great communication beforehand and let me know he'd be able to arrive earlier. He was friendly, experienced, helped me figure out the better AC to install (since I had a few to choose from) and gave all sorts of advice from filter-cleaning to listening for the compressor hum. Poor guy was dripping sweat because my apartment NEEDED these ACs installed, but he was precise and efficient, and in the end, the plexiglass setup looks like witchcraft; looks like you can stick your hand right through it, you can barely tell it's there. Vlad got back to me right away and connected me with his partner, Alen. I had decided to buy my own AC and call for installation once it arrived but they will also handle the purchase of an AC - I'm just not sure you have a choice in what you get apart from the BTU size but you can ask. Their installation fee was 1/3 the cost of many other companies (I got at least 3 quotes) and Alen was available to install the next day after my call. He was prompt (actually early but there was no parking!), friendly, professional, quick and did an AMAZING job. My AC has never been insulated so well and so NEATLY. No cutting corners here. For me it was worth every reasonable penny to have this done by a professional rather than doing a crappy job myself. Alen installed two window AC units today for me and I could not have been more impressed and happy! Communication from the beginning was great- he called me right away to set up an installation time. We kept in touch with some pictures of the new ACs I was getting so he could make sure he was completely prepared for the job! He arrived right on time and carried the two new units fell the lobby to up 2 flights of stairs ! He did both units in an hours, with brackets installation for safety (extra fee for the bracket install and totally worth it so that no one gets hurt). This is review for the "repair" service. Pros: Rep was very friendly, responsive and punctual. Cons: Wasn't aware the rate was $150/hour, on top of a service call fee, I paid almost $300 to "insulate" (tape my HVAC cables) which I could've done myself, and this was after a half-hour "discount". In addition, I was told this is a temporary solution, the rep was NOT an electrician despite being ask to insulate electrical cables. I paid a license electrician to actually do the repair (and undo their work) for about the same price/time. Tip: Get a full understanding of the cost and get quote for the job, I can't help but feel cheated and ripped off. I paid the electrician rate for someone to simply tape cables for 2 hours. read more

I made an appointment with them based on the reviews and here is my assessment: Pros -reasonably priced -installation went fine -available on the weekends, kept in communication for appointment, was courteous and punctual Cons -read the fine print: regular installation does not include the support bracket, they charge more for that as I learned the hard way -poor customer service: I explained my situation to the owner who got defensive about it. He said he'd charge me another $50 to install the bracket which I felt was outrageous given that I had already paid (plus I paid for my own support bracket so they weren't providing that) so he rudely told me to find someone else because these services cost money. The technician told me the same thing (pay $50 to correct the issue) but I declined after that nasty phone call. I got the issue resolved without their help. I want a mini-split system where the in-room unit is installed on a /center/ wall of my 2BR apartment, and the condenser is installed outside, below my kitchen window in the back. This will involve running a power/refrigerant line combo and a pumped condensate (water) line from the center wall to either my kitchen sink or the outside. Stage 1: A/C survey. The guy phones in an hour before our appointment and arrives on time. Very nice, and speaks nearly no English. He did use his Google Translate app effectively though and I enjoyed meeting him. Also, I can barely screw in curtain rods, so I am surely not going to attempt lugging a 75lb AC unit into an open window and trying to affix it. No thanks. This is a job for the pros. The pro = Vlad. After a quick search on Yelp, a perusal of the reviews...this became quite evident! Thank you, sensible yelpers. The summer in NYC...not so pretty in terms of staying cool. Is this why everyone leaves? The decision gods neglected to inform me of this as I packed up my life in February. I left in my wake a cute little apartment in Chicago equipped with extra-cold central AC. Mmmmm, a meat cooler would be jealous. I used to hang out ins sweatpants in July. Heaven. Here? Not so much. We're just approaching June and already it's sticky, sweaty, muggy, morbidly hot. Things are wet. Luckily I had the good sense to ring up Vlad before things got too bad. Services: PURCHASE/DELIVER AC: First off, I thought "how the hell am I going to get an AC unit to my second floor apartment? I can barely heft my groceries! To the rescue: Vlad will purchase ($199 for 8,000BTU) for you, and deliver it for the price of the unit + $75. (and $5/floor if it is a walkup). This is well worth it, and I highly recommend it if you do not already have a unit of your own. INSTALLATION: Vlad comes equipped with all the tools necessary to install a wonderfully safe AC unit, WITH a warranty. Beat that? Not possible. It took him approximately 20 minutes from start to finish to get this bad boy up and running in the hizzy. I also do not have to fret about it plummeting from the window and killing the neighbors. There is something to be said for that reassurance. If you have your own, he'll install it for you. Price for service call typically: $75. (varies by location). WARRANTY: As mentioned before, Vlad offers a 1-year warranty on your installation services. He also has insurance in case of damage. Obviously, as evidenced by the star rating...there was no damage, and Vlad left my home just as he found it. *accepts cash or personal check. (cash preferred, I'm sure!) --- Ok, that is all well and good...of course, but the real deal with this company is that Vlad is a great guy. Though his native language is Russian, he communicates VERY effectively via email and phone. I sent him emails about my specific situation, we agreed on the date/time and unit to be delivered and like clockwork he was here, installing it, and my Memorial Day weekend has been cool as a cucumber. He even phoned me a few minutes before our appointment time to let me know he might be a few minutes late, though he ended up being very punctual. He's also pretty funny! I assume Vlad is very busy this time of year...but if you haven't started thinking about your AC unit that's either collecting dust in storage, or absent all together -- you are likely living in a cave (lucky you!), and you should get in touch ASAP. I've earned many bonus points from that (now chilled) boyfriend, now that the AC is operating efficiently. 5 cool stars.
