Bad business practice. I previously used this company when they were called Elite Comfort and gave them a great review. However, that's not the case with this new company, Air Tech. While the technician was professional, the estimate they gave was outrageous. The technician said I needed a new evaporator coil. If you look online, you'd be hard-pressed to find one for more than $1,000. He mentioned it would take two technicians and six hours to complete the job. Even if we assume the technicians charge $100 per hour (which is a stretch), that brings the labor cost to $1,200, and the total so far to $2,200. Let's add a 50% markup for the company, which brings the total to $3,300. That's still high, but they quoted me $4,980! Obviously, I shopped around and found a much more reasonable estimate--nearly 50% less from a reputable company. The bad business practice here is charging nearly $100 for the diagnostic, knowing the estimate was outrageous. You could literally build a business around giving inflated estimates with the sole intention of collecting diagnostic fees. read more

To start off with, I have no idea why this profile says im in CA. I'm in humble tx. I've used them for 10 years. They've installed 2 systems of mine, and loved them until a week ago. A human sized hole in my attic, the crew cut down to 1 guy, "finished" at midnight, but the system is still unbalanced and the job is still not finished. I DO NOT BLAME THE INSTALLERS. It was a really young crew which i loved to see because we desperately need people in trades. They all were well versed in everything they were doing, knowledgeable, and had a hell of a lot of hustle. Accidents happen, and I get it. I blame the company, its safety protocols, and the complete lack of response to my continued requests of a quality check (which i'm now getting after a week and the system is unbalanced b/c no dampers were installed)and a phone call from someone in mgmt to discuss my concerns...But also, I think Alpine Investments (private equity) is now the owner of Apex Solutions, which i believe jointly owns Air Tech with an individual in houston. So the inability to email anyone (info@elitecomfortservices.com as stated as their email to reach them at DOES NOT EXIST), reach a manager, speak to someone other than a service tech/scheduler...all by design. I called them and said, "my second A/C unit outside fan stopped spinning. The filter is new/clean, the thermostat itself seems to be working, I think the capacitor is blown. Can you come out and check it?" The technician, Mike, seemed very knowledgeable and thorough, and friendly. 2 minutes after he arrived we are looking at a swollen and obviously bad capacitor. He has a replacement ready to go in his truck. The bill for this visit? $530. That includes an "A/C tune-up" that I didn't want, because if I didn't take the A/C tune-up, he would have charged me a service charge and the total would have been even more. I get that he is experienced and qualified, I get that he drives a well stocked truck, and the company has to pay for insurance and lots of other stuff. I was fully prepared for him to tell me $300, knowing the part only costs something like $30. But $530 (or more) just totally takes the cake. He offered me a 20% discount if I bought a $269 service contract, but I declined. Next time something like this happens I'll replace the capacitor and clean the condenser myself, and if it turns out to be something I can't handle, I will look for a less expensive HVAC company to call. read more

There guys will find things wrong when there isn't anything wrong. I have used them for a number of years on a maintenance contract and they always find something wrong. The last visit they told me a fan motor and an induction motor needed replaced. I was told I would need a new heat exchanger in the one Trane furnaces plus the blower motor needed replaced. Then in the second unit they said the induction motor was bad and need replaced. I told the tech that the parts were covered under the 10 year warranty and should only have to pay for the labor. When any part fails under warranty Trane requires that part to be sent back to them for inspection for the warranty. Once they were aware the part was covered under warranty and Trane would likely not pay for the heat exchanger the next day they told me the heat exchanger was fine, but the two motors would have to be replaced at a cost of $4,600. I told them the quote was crazy and they revised it to $1,700 saying there was a mistake. I said that is still outrageous to replace two motors that would take 30 to 45 minutes per motor. I called another company in to look at it and they said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the induction motor. He also show me where they failed to remove a jumper wire while they were troubleshooting it. This caused the heater to run for days wasting my propane and the air conditioning would come up to cool down the house because the heater was running nonstop. The other company told me the blower motor was indeed bad in the other unit and they told me the labor would be $385 to fix it under warranty. So we when from an estimate of $4,600, to $1,700 and I got it fixed from another company for $385. They work off commission so any work they tell you needs to be done get a second opinion or better advice yet don't let them touch your equipment in the first place. read more

Not the best experience with this company. The initial service charge is $89, and the understanding was that they would perform an inspection and then let me know repair options. The first communication I received was two bills via email, one for $376 to change out a single component (a capacitor) and another for $409 which included a year worth of service. The work had actually already been done. Also, there was no guarantee that this replacement was the only thing wrong with the system. Being billed prior to agreeing to the work and a lack of clarity regarding the issues with my system is bad enough, but perhaps the worst part of this experience is what the "service plan" option includes. According to the quote, this annual plan includes "2 FREE precision tune-ups". But according to the technician, any work that needs to be done is billed separately from the annual plan at a discount rate, so the 2 tune-ups appear to be plainly false advertising. And the tune-up supposedly had to be scheduled for another day. So really, the options I was given include 1) pay an exorbitant amount for the replacement of a simple component, the installation of which may or may not fix my system, or 2) pay for the replacement of this component along with a yearly fee which apparently doesn't really cover any other service. Two completely ridiculous options. I paid the $89 inspection fee and will go with another company. read more

I have been working with this company for several different visits and have always been impressed with their customer service. After 15 years, my unit finally bit the dust and I had to get a new one. This company is unbelievably deceptive. We spent almost 400.00 to add 2 pounds of freon to one of our units. It cooled for about a week. Called them back out, they waived the service fee but we were informed that we needed at least 2 pounds of freon at 150.00 per pound. When I asked what about the last 2 that were supposedly put in, the technician said we were under the illusion that those two pounds were going to work. We must have a leak....really? Why not inspect the unit and give us an option? Who would waste 400.00 at this time on an illusion??? Horrible untrustworthy company!!!! read more

Just for you all to know, I'm in the market for new ACs. My units are from 1996, so it's time. I'm posting this so the rest of you don't potentially get robbed. Anyhow, I went on Nextdoor to see AC recommendations. I solely went with the recommendations rather than open the phone book to start looking. After my experience, I feel some of you that recommended a certain company ARE GETTING ROBBED BLIND. What's so sad is some of you would go with the first company rather than tell them you have many estimates. I had the companies quote me their recommendation of brand, as well as had them quote me Trane (top of the line) brand. My current units are Trane and have been working since installation in 1996. Here are the results: Lyons air - very nice family guy that seems very very honest - $13,500 to $16,499 depending on brand Mick with Houston AC Master - another honest guy - $11,900 to $14,900 depending on brand Jeff with JCB Mechanical - another great person - $11,900 Felix with Angels on Earth - amazing guy - $11,800 And now I will show you a straight criminal piece of trash company and the rudest serviceman you will ever meet. I will go straight to the top with this one and do everything I can to expose this crook! Chris with Elite Comfort - bad bad bad guy. Not o my did they show up almost an hour late, they didn't call to let me know. I had to call the office and they were rude saying that their time is more valuable than mine!!! Are you serious??? Extremely professional, prompt, and honest. I just had Doug out here yesterday to troubleshoot my system. He was able to identify my handler motor had gone out relatively quickly. Luckily my equipment was still under manufacturer's warranty. Elite Comfort was able to take care of the warranty work, track down the replacement motor, and replace it all within 24 hours at an honest and fair price for labor. Doug came back out today and installed the motor with zero issues and had everything running as it should. I did my research before choosing them and the process and outcome of this service has verified I made the right choice. I will %100 be a return customer. read more

Very nice young man that came out yesterday. Can't remember his name. I have a 23 yr. unit. He told me thet the mother board and the motor were gone in the furnace. To buy the replacement parts were 1200. To replace the furnace was around 2500. To replace the whole thing was 8800. On a limit income that was quite a shock. He was so very nice though. Told him i would have to think about it, and what do i owe you for coming out. He said he would write it up as a est. for the work. I thought that was super nice. My friend was here and called a guy she used. He came within the hour. He was up there about 10 mins. We could hear the ac come on. He came down with a bad capacitor. The part cost me 25.00 the service call 140.00. I was so grateful. I have to wonder did the young man just miss this because of experience. I'm wondering how my motor and motherboard could be bad if the unit came on after the new part was put in. I realize i have an old unit and it does need to be replaced one day. I've had two HVAC systems fixed by these guys in 2 different houses. They really know their stuff. They give you options if it's something big (you could do 1 thing to keep it going for a while or do another thing to fix the problem long term). I appreciate that. I thought I would need a whole new furnace now, but he cleaned it and checked it over and said it's older but in pretty good shape. I've also had some plumbing work done...they're very courteous and show up on time. Their office staff is always very nice and they're apparently available 24/7 for emergencies. As for rates, they seem reasonable to me. I really don't know how much others charge. Nothing made me scream in horror though. read more

Came home from work around 8pm to a house that was 85 degrees. Ac was blowing warm air. Called about 5 different companies, each quoted be an "after-hours" rate of $150-180 just for the service call. I had to leave messages with the other companies and wait for a call back. When I called Elite, they answered right away and had a tech at my door within the hour!! The short and sweet version: ======================= I've used Elite on two occasions (once for an HVAC repair and the other for general maintenance). Their personnel (on the phone and in person) are friendly, knowledgeable, personable, efficient, offer options, and didn't oversell me. I require a lot of information to understand what is going on. Things were explained to me in words I understood. Both visits, went off like clockwork. I feel confident in their opinions and their work. Cris, Charles and the staff I interacted with, really seem to care about their customers. They care what we think. Call these guys first. You might find cheaper, but you won't find better. The long story: =========== The problem: ----------------- We were in the process of buying a home when we discovered that the AC unit's condensate (you know .... that water that drips from the inside AC unit) was draining into the overflow pan and flowing to the outside drain. This was troubling since HVAC drain issues can be something small like a clogged drain or expensive like a condenser or heat exchanger. So I looked on Yelp to see who had reasonable ratings (enough ratings to be reliable) and showed a high level of satisfaction. So I called these guys and hoped. The solution: ----------------- Cris showed up the next day. He came in, disassembled some hatches on the inside unit, looked over the setup and explained the situation. He said that the unit was in good shape and that the main drain appeared clogged which would cause the water to drain out the secondary drain. He warned me that there may be other issues, but we should start by clearing the drain. He described the process and asked me to go to the sink where the condensate drained. I was to cover the sink drain so water doesn't accidentally splash out when he clears the line. He remained in the attic and blew out the drain. The condensate issue was solved. He offered to check the rest of the unit, and nearly everything was perfect. He found an run capacitor that was off on the fan motor. The system uses this capacitor to regulate the electricity that drives the motor. He explained that the situation as "non-critical" and if I wanted it fixed, it would improve the motor efficiency and life. It was relatively inexpensive and a quick job to fix it. SUCCESS! A new problem arose: ------------------------------ A month later, I began to notice an intermittent popping from that sink's drain. I realized that I had never heard it before because the condensate drain was clogged. I did a little research and discovered it was a common problem related to air pressure coming down the condensate drain into the sink. The research said that a p-trap would solve the problem. My mistake: ---------------- Well my home came with a home owner's warranty so I called the warranty company instead of Elite. The warranty company sent a different HVAC company to look at my problem. I was told the popping was normal. I verified the ultimate solution was to install a p-trap.They tried opening a clean out to reduce the air pressure in the line. The popping stopped, but came back a few days later. So I called the home warranty company again, and explained my situation. I explicitly told them that it would require a p-trap. They sent that same HVAC company back (not Elite). Their tech told the warranty company that everything was working perfectly and that popping was normal. He then offered to fix it for me for $145. I asked why so much? He explained he had to charge me for the drive to Home Depot to buy the parts (4 elbows and 2 foot of PVC pipe). He didn't have the parts on his truck despite my prior call and explicitly telling them it was a p-trap issue. I asked him to leave. I drove to Home Depot and bought $7 of parts and did it myself. Ugh ... I'll never deal with that other HVAC company again. Winter is coming: ----------------------- Okay so it started getting colder outside and I thought I'd like to get someone in to check/tune-up the heating components of my HVAC system. I called Elite first. I was offered a variety of open appointments that fit my schedule. The day of the service, I received a call estimating their arrival time. Charles showed up on time. He introduced himself. We chatted, and I showed him to the unit. He opened up the system. Checked the electronics, air temperatures, burners, and blowers. He found a shimmy in the blower vent motor, removed it and found it was a little warped but working fine. He reassembled everything. He recommended the least expensive service plan (a simple checkup at the change of seasons) because the system was in such good shape. We chatted as he wrapped up. I felt good about it, and am confident in Elite's work ethic and quality. SUCCESS! I'll be using these guys in the future! read more

Just in time for winter and I need to have a toilet repaired and have my AC unit maintenanced for the upcoming year. I can't say enough good things about the guys at Elite Comfort. We had them out a few years ago to repair our heater and they quickly diagnosed the issue, found a replacement part, and repaired the heater. Their rates were incredibly reasonable and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. Therefore, when we had an issue pop up with both of our heaters this winter, we called them back and had another great experience. Charles was on time, diagnosed and explained the problems with both heaters in an easy to understand way, and provided an affordable solution. When another problem arose a few days later with one of the heaters, Charles came back out that same day and did not charge us anything to fix the problem, which is simply astounding. After 30 min of waiting for the other guys to call me back I gave up and called Elite. Chris Alvarado came to do a service call on August 16 at my house because my AC was not cooling (intake vs vent) more than about 8 degrees. I'm inherently skeptical of mechanics and service people, because AC can get expensive quickly, but am so glad to report that Chris did just an amazing and thorough job. In the end, the problem was nothing more than a badly functioning capacitor and a lack of freon. He even did a very quick leak check and said the leak does exist but it's so small it's not worth tearing everything apart to get to it. Bottom line, the AC worked a LOT better when he was done, and I didn't have to pay $5000 dollars for a new system. I couldn't be happier. read more

Highly recommended, if you want perfect service, politeness, and experience. Company came out on the weekend, show-up within 10 minutes, I know this is going to be rare because it depends on were the techs are, but I have to say something because I was impressed. Not to mention it being a Saturday and the person that came was off the clock and their show up fee is the same regardless of day or time. So 5 stars for promptness. They installed a new blade and motor, which doesn't seem difficult, but the originally the blade was fine, expect it seized to the motor shaft and it was not coming off (I can attest he let me try to get it off). So new fan and motor, A/C works great. Super polite (can't think of a better word than super). I believe Charles was the tech. 5 stars for service. Unfortunately its not all rainbows and sunshine, is about 3 months later and the fan blade came off. Pretty sure there was a slight defect in blade, that caused vibration, that loosened the screws. So though unfortunate I do not believe it was not Elites Comfort's fault. Regardless they took responsibility, no arguing, just said they would take care of it. It did cause some damage that couldn't be fixed that evening, but are planning to get someone out the next day to finish repairs. Until then they were able to get it working within "okay" parameters until they could get back out. Haven't met the tech for final repairs, but David was out for this original assessment and once again extremely polite and courteous. So for this visit 5 stars for service and definitely 5 stars for customer service. Pretty positive if I wrote this after tomorrow's service it will be the same, just with another 5 star comment. read more
