I had high expectations for my discovery flight (1 hour - ~$200, not a Groupon) with Air Trek North. The expectations were set primarily due to the initial interaction I had with the owner via email, which was very good. They have a very nice website with a lot of great information. They were responsive and informative (not just a reply with a form letter) when I inquired about the program, etc.
When I arrived, it didn't seem like anyone was expecting me. When my instructor met me, he also acted like he was surprised he had an appointment. I guess I was expecting a more professional effort, especially since I am weighing spending 12-15k with them in getting my pilot's license. To his credit, the instructor proved to be very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions really well. The biggest turn off was that during the pre-flight inspection and the post flight discussion, the owner came right up to us (looked at the plane, mulled about) and didn't say a word. Of course, I have no idea what was happening that day, but it seemed odd that there was not even an acknowledgement of a potential client.
Once we wrapped up, I expected (and wanted) a bit of a sales pitch and perhaps some more info to get me to think more about enlisting AirTrek North in my pilot training, but there was nothing. It left me with a bit of an empty feeling toward the experience overall.
In summary - I understand I may have caught them at a bad time or on a busy day. I was really hoping that once I was done with my flight and talking things over with the people at Air Trek North, I would have been ready and excited to sign up right then and there. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
The experience, though not terrible, could have been much better. read more
